Bus driver drops Tower of Terror bombshell?

How are they working around the "no Marvel east of the Mississippi" rule with GotG at WDW, anyway, regardless of where it goes. Did I miss a change in the contract?
Guardians is not under the avengers umbrella so therefore that property, as well as doctor strange are able to be used in WDW.

Curious about what a Guardians overlay would even look like. The main thing with ToT is that there is an element of scare to it. Dark, creepy, ghosts, etc. The Guardians movie was more of a comedy to me. Entertaining but light hearted, not entirely suspenseful like ToT is currently. Just seems like a weird fit.
Take a look at the Disneyland concept art and that will give you an idea.

This is not a change I would like to see....ugh. @ariane37 did you see this?
Just seeing it now that you tagged me :( I wouldn't be happy at all, I pretty much roll with all the changes WDW makes whether I agree or not but this would make me extremely sad. It's my favorite ride on property and I don't think you can find fault anywhere with the theming. I miss the "Old Hollywood" vibe HS used to have and am sad enough they're moving away from that but I've accepted it  Changing TOT to GOTG (or anything else for that matter) would be much, much harder for me to accept.

No change, there are some characters that are within the contract and some that are not. Guardians is not. Big Hero 6 is not. And others. Disney would be wise to capitalize on those Marvel properties they are able to use. ALTHOUGH I would appreciate something NEW - not overlayed.

I think they will be doing more overlays in the future to save money. I won't be surprised if they change the theme of the Aerosmith roller coaster.

No doubt they will be changing RNR, and Guardians would be a better fit here. A good use of money. If the goal is to get Guardians in the park ASAP, then do it here with Aerosmith is probably on it's way out.

My point is that you are completely wasting your money if you are overlaying something that is not broken and works. You are not saving money then, you are wasting it. Money could be better used to fix the awful state of attractions/buildings in Epcot. When there is a huge line to get in to ToT it's not broken. When there is no line and mostly empty cars (Energy) or empty buildings - money needs to be diverted there.

It all comes down to money. It's much cheaper to overlay the Tower with a Guardian theme then to revamp energy into a new Guardians attraction. Cost were flying through the roof on the proposed Energy revamp. They will also save in the long run on not having to pay CBS a licensing fee.

GOTG at least is a better fit in Hollywood Studios than it is in EPCOT. I could see it happening down the road, but wouldn't expect it to happen until some of the other projects are done, or near completion.

I won't mind it. We've done ToT so many times, and while I love it, it will be fun to see something new. Things change, such is life.

We will there next Halloween, assuming it will still be ToT. Will enjoy it then and then enjoy later in it's new incarnation. :)

I hope the bus driver who started this rumor is reading this thread. Bus drivers like to have fun with their captive audiences. I think (esp. given the Elsa comment) that he was just looking to have a good laugh and have folks laugh along with him. One night, our bus driver asked if anyone knew where our resort was. This was after we had been on the road for a little bit. She said it without a hint of humor in her voice. Everyone nervously looked around, and then a couple minutes later we were right where we were supposed to be.

There is the rumor about GotG going back to ToT and that does stink, but I think his original comment was to stir things up on the bus. If Twilight Zone has to go :(:(:(:(:(:(:( then maybe Disney could at least buy Netflix and do a Stranger Things overlay instead ;)

I agree that a Guardians overlay of RnRC makes more sense...the whole cassette tape thing is a big part of GOTG, and would be a great tie in for RNRC. I also agree that it's wasting money on TOT, since TOT is bringing in the crowds as it is. They really do need to do something about the empty buildings and/or rides that aren't popular at all...overlay those, not the ones that are already working well!

They did a overlay on Maelstrom for Frozen. :crazy2:

Sorry we did not like it at all.

I would really hate to see both U.S. ToTs changed for such a new movie. I don't think all these new-ish overlays are going to age very well. I understand trying to keep current, but not at the expense of older, beloved attractions. Although, I would love to see a Tron ride somewhere at WDW. At least DisneySea's ToT is safe, since GoG theme would not fit there. I think that one is the best by far anyway, with an amazing evening Tokyo skyline view from the top! Just the ride queue is amazing.

- Still throwing away money on something that is not broken or in need of change.
- If they want to force an overlay use RNR that is ready for the change due to "creative differences".
- Not building it at Energy does not change the fact that the Energy attraction needs to be shut down.
- LOTS of money is wasted every day to run it for the couple hundred people looking for AC, seat and nap.
- The licensing issue is not important here since Disney will still pay for Paris.
- And all Disney has to do is renovate it with the Tokyo story line which would be the least costly option.

- Maelstrom needed a complete makeover no matter what went in there.
- Disney found when A&E were in Norway the first time, families were finally going to Epcot.
- Two bird with one stone.
- I think we will see more and more "Disney" find it's way in to Epcot.
- And why not? It's Disney World. It gets families in there. It gets kids exposed to foods, shops, entertainment.
- Epcot was never built as Walt intended, it's in dire need of a re-imagining in Future World especially.

I went on the ride expecting to hate it based on what video etc I saw. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it.

I love DHS. We easily spent almost 2 days there last trip. I know Star Wars an Galaxy movies are HUGE but we aren't fans. We've actually never watched one of these movies. No one in my family. They don't appeal to us. I wonder how much time we will spend on future trips.

I don't understand how you can say you aren't fans if you never saw the movies. I would encourage you to watch them. You might be surprised.

I've seen bits and pieces here and there and it does nothing for me. Sci Fi doesn't interest me. I can't get my kids to watch it either. We aren't into HP either. My kids each read the first book and they want no parts of it. We're weird like that I guess. lol

We ride Star Tours and enjoy it. I've never been to HP land but I can appreciate the theming and detail. I do want to visit it since it looks so awesome.

It's ok. It's a big world out there and a lot to go around for everyone. :)
