Fritillaria-Spring flowering bulbs that are planted in the fall. My favorite is the snake's-head Fritillaria. There are tall varieties called Imperialis with its yellow, orange and red bell flowers that hang in a cluster on the top of a long stem. Pretty but not good smelling and the bulbs stink too.
The smaller variety called Meleagris is the fritillaria I like. Is very delicate looking. The flower has a snake skin appearence.
Fritillaria like sun or semi=shade, a soil rich in humus and heights 8-20 inches depending on variety.
