A very generous Disser has offered me her spare ticket for Friday night's party and I wanted to use it as a surprise for DH and DS2 for our first night in WDW. But- DS2 happened to step on the wrong part of my toe this weekend and broke it! Now I have a velcro foot cast thingee on and can't walk very well.

We leave for WDW on Friday and have park days planned from Sat-Tues with MNSSHP on Friday night and I don't know how I will be walking through the parks. I haven't bought the other ticket to add to the spare one yet but don't want her generosity to go to waste.

Do I suck it up, buy the extra ticket, meet the Disser to get the spare ticket and go to MNSSHP or use Friday night as a day to relax before our 4 days in the parks? This is a quandary I did not expect to be in!

OUCH! :scared1: I hope you didn't have to wait 8 hours at Easton Hosp ER this weekend!! I assume you are wearing a post op shoe, hard sole that won't bend so you have to walk flat footed? If your toe still hurts alot by Friday I say go but rent a wheelchair. You may however be pleasantly surprised and feel ok by then. For now lots of Advil and ice! My DH is scheduled for back surgery 9/24 we leave 10/22. Right now I am planning a wheechair for him but we'll see. At least my 5y.o could ride with him and I'd have a place to keep my jacket!! :cool1: Good luck and have fun, just get off your foot if it hurts too much.

Not quite 8 hours, but closer to 3 and yes, it was at the Easton hosp. First time I ever needed to go to the ER and yes, I have that shoe thingee with the velcro. I guess I will get the ECV- I just feel bad taking up one when I do not 100% need it but I'm thinking my toe and other leg will thank me for it.

Just to let you know ECV's rent for $35 a day ($5 returned when you bring it back) Also people have recommended going to the store and practicing using one. (You should have seen the look my DH gave me when I told him to go to Wegmans and practice!) Easton ER 3 hours there isn't bad, I work in the ER across the river, someone came in from Easton(she walked out after waiting since 4pm, it was 2am when I saw her, happens alot.) And by the way you do need a ECV, just because your condition is temporary doesn't mean you don't deserve to use one!

I'd say go to MNSSHP, especially since you already have one ticket. I broke my pinky toe not too long ago and while I was walking with a limp for about a month a broke toe wouldn't have kept me away from MNSSHP. ;) I found that when I taped my pinky toe to the neighboring toe, with some gauze or cotton between them, my toe didn't hurt as bad.

Good luck regardless of what you choose about MNSSHP and stock up on some Advil. :)

ECVs are great - I broke my toe a number of years ago and cold get around the house, but any distance walking put too much strain on the rest of my body. I would recommend going and renting an ECV!

Yeah, ditto what LilGMom said (except, thanks for the tip about the gauze!). I don't break a toe all the time, but I've done my share over the years. First one, doctor, reset, all that. Every one after that? Just me and a fresh roll of first aid tape :teeth:

But, yeah, seriously consider an ECV or wheelchair. Keep the logistics in mind - you will NOT be able to have your daughter on the ECV with you, and you wouldn't be able to push her stroller. Your DH couldn't push her in the stroller and you in a wheelchair. He could push you both in a wheelchair, although it seems to me that'd only be fun for one of the three of you ;)

Check the disABILITIES board. I think the second thread is the disABILITIES FAQ, and it includes links to several off-site rental companies.

Thank you for the tips- I will definitely look into the ECV. It feels wierd to have to get one, but I don't want to put a strain on myself in the first day or two and mess up the rest of the trip.

Ok- I'm excited to go again!

People seriously underestimate (as I'm sure you're figuring out right now) how important your little toe is. I've had a few surgeries on mine (in two out of three cases it required them breaking it) and well it really makes self-propulsion difficult to say the least. You put a LOT of pressure on your toes when you walk.

Your toe, your calve muscles, your back and your other leg will thank you for the ECV. Hope the toe heals up quickly for you.
