Brazilian Tour Groups

So I am going last week in Jan and staying into Feb, Should I be concerned? I really want my vacation to be great and dont want to have to worry about these groups. Is this a popular time for them to be there?

Yes, it is a very popular time for them. Regardless though, you are going to have a great vacation and have a great time. It's an inconvenience and at times an annoyance, but it won't ruin your stay at WDW. :thumbsup2

Mrbghd,

It’s not that the tour groups are from Brazil or any other country. It could be The Old Caucasian Tour Groups from Indiana! The point is, that there is a large body of people (folks, humans, bi-peds, thrill seekers, WDW fanatics, North/South Americans, Western Hemispheroids, etc.) who are joined at the hip and chanting. It is difficult for a family of any size to navigate in or around these large bodies of “people”. To label these posts as “blatant racism” is one giant leap! No one has said “I hate Brazilians” or anyone else!!

If you have been around the DIS any length of time, you should have read complaints about Pop Warner, cheerleaders, and Old Caucasians from Indiana. But no one has said HATE. I realize my group can get on your nerves. We like to tour in large groups, joined at our hip replacements, singing Beatles, Beach Boys, and Styx songs and we try to watch that! But I don’t think anyone on the DIS has hated us because we’re white and from Indiana (unless you’re Bobby Knight – yes, I said it – Bobby Knight). But mrbghd, you need to take a breath and do what my posse (OCFI) does – “fire up a bong” or “light up a fatty” – and by fatty – I’m not talking about a large guy! :)

Prejudice? The BTG's are well known for being large and excite-full.
POP Warner groups...almost the same.

Just like some people don't want to be there for all the crowd created excitement of POP Warner, some people may not want to be there for the excitement of BTG's.

This is a preference, not prejudice.

There is also no prejudice in calling them"Brazilian Tour Groups" We simply don't want to describe them as "A large group of people who travel from their home country Brazil, who like to tour the parks as large groups and because of their sizable groups, they negatively affect the flow of the parks"

Naaaa... I think it is better to just call them what they are... "BTG's"

Again.... not prejudice.

This happens every time a BTG thread pops up. It is NOT racism at all. We do not judge their country of origin or language, but use it as a descriptor because it is a FACT that hundreds of Brazilian Tour Groups come to WDW certain times of year. They behave in a way that is totally unique compared to any other large tour group (i.e. Pop Warner or cheerleaders).

They have a "system" that they follow because these are all organized tours by a certain limited number of tour companies. Those tour operators behave in exactly the same way, so the behavior is the same and predictable whenever a group is encountered. For instance, you will ALWAYS see the groups lined up on Main Street waiting for fireworks an hour and a half in advance. They have to entertain themselves, to the tour operator will encourage singing or chanting to keep them entertained. Ruins the time for the "regular" non-tour group folks also waiting (if they can even find a spot).

I once saw a tour operator do a call and repeat type chant one time walking from Big Thunder Mountain to Haunted Mansion. They drowned out the musicians playing in front of Diamond Horsheshoe and disrupted the street show in front of Country Bears. That's not acceptable on any level! But the tour operators want these kids to go home and say what a wonderful time they had, so the operators will do whatever they must to disrupt your personal vacation so the group has a good time.

The most we want to do on these threads is to help each other enjoy a vacation. Discussing tour group behaviors that get in the way of that enjoyment is totally acceptable. We don't call names, we're not racist. I try to help on these threads because I don't think anyone deserves to have a less than wonderful time at Disney World, and if you're going to be there when the BTGs are there, then you have to be forewarned and prepared for it.

Oh yeah, I have been to WDW in an ECV due to severe debiliatating rheumatoid arthritis and I am pooh-sized (or "fat" as you have chosen to call me in a blatantly arrogant way). You may think I'm big, but I don't cover the entire hub in front of the castle. So shut up!

Please tell me one thing you described that they do that is against the rules? Please tell me how that is worse than anything I described? Again, I am not condoning making fun of overweight people who use ecv's or kids in strollers, but why is it okay to attack one group and not another? I hate to tell you this is actually racism. You are stereotyping a large group of people based on second and third hand observations as well as fear. These views have developed into a bias and prejudice against members of the group. That is the essential mark of racism. You may not cover the entire hub of the castle but if you take the bus you negatively impact everyone's experience around you. Why is that different that a tour group chanting? I do not doubt that you need your ecv, as I understand your medical situation, but ecv's in general cause as many problems as these groups. So why is attackign one okay and the other not?

Amen, sistah!!!!!(or brutha if the case may be!!)

I've seen the Brazilian groups in June. I think the problem is that there are so many of them in one large group. We have never had an issue with them being rude. Actually at one of the waterparks, my sisters, cousin and I talked with one lady who was in the cabana with us- we all had children the same age. It was interesting trying to communicate. Her hubby was absolutely gorgeous.

I agree with everything in your 1st paragraph except for the part abour hating Braziliians. Nobody may have explicitly said they hate the BTG's but is implied in many of the posts.

AS for the 2nd paragraph, I have heard the complaints about Pop Warner but they are never as intense as the ones about the BTG's. As for the second 1/2 of the second paragraph I couldn't stop laughing. I don't know what was better the Styx reference or the last one..... BTW, I am in no way angered or hyped up about any of this. But the hypocrisy on these topics just need to be pointed out and mocked.

What the heck! I have never ever seen a post stated by anyone saying they hate the Brazilian tour groups.
If you have never read the intense threads about Pop Warner, then you must have been around too long. They are as bad or worse than the BTG threads.

In all sincerity I am asking this question. Why is it okay to complain about the BTG's but not people on ECV's that drive like maniacs and take forever to load the bus, and then bring 10 people with them without waiting in line?

Both groups do annoying things. Both groups interfere with other paying guests park experience. So why is it okay to insult one and not the other?
