Brazilian Tour Groups

First advise: RUN to TSM when park opens...The brazilian tour guides stand in those machine with 30+ tickets in front of you..SO ANNOYING!!

Second advise: Avoid the attractions they're in line for..You should be ok :wizard:

Buy earplugs for the chantings........:scared:

Truly an over-hyped problem on the DIS. The worst groups we've ever seen were troups of American kids - and those happen all year round. (though ther are a few times whenthey are concentrated, like Pop-warner). Rude people come in all ethnic varieties! So do polite people!;)

I REALLY woud not worry about it.

We have been to Disney the last 3 August's and we have not once seen any large groups of them. Our trips were at the end of the month and spilling over to September.

They are the worst June-August!!! I hate to hear that they are there in Jan. We will be going there this Jan:scared1::scared1::scared1: I find this odd b/c my aunt works for Disney and never mentioned to me that they were bad in Jan??? :confused3

That's because they aren't bad in January. The groups tend to be smaller and less likely to over-run an area. We usually see them start to arrive at the end of January then they are there all through February. The groups tend to be around 25-40 of them, they don't lock arms and clog up the walkway and they don't sing or go crazy while waiting for something (all of which they do in the summer!).

Generally, they will not impact your enjoyment. Disney has employed a LOT of Brazilian cast member and they can handle the tour groups very well in January. They help with line etiquette, character greeting, ordering and waiting in line for food - these are things that are done differently in their country and most times are not done with malice. It DOES get frustrating when one teen waits in line, then when they get to the front, 20 others join then. That's usually where a Brazilian cast member can help and step in.

Don't be scared of January. BUT - never go in July if you can help it. I've heard nothing but horror stories :scared1:

SOOOOO True!
DH and I were just there in July and they were everywhere! They are so rude and loud. A man waiting in line with us for splash mountain complained to a CM when they completely stopped our line and let about 15 or more boats fill with these students before letting anyone else on - the CM said he totally understands and that they have been told to accomodate them as they bring in big bucks. We also chatted to another CM in a store and she said that she hates July for this single reason alone.
They seem to have 100's of fastpasses for every ride/show. One family waited in line for over 2 hours to see Fantasmic and didn't get in because a bunch of these groups met up and all were taken in the back entrance and seated so only a small majority of the general public got to see the show that night.

That happened to me too at TSM. But when you're on line, you don't know it's a Tour grp leader waiting, they have no markings, lol! Only knew when he took out the stack of KTTW cards from his pocket at the FP machine

I don't think the problem is over-rated. They nearly knocked me to the ground at the Italy Pav. when they started rushing en-mass to get up on the little raised platform to do their cheer. Fortunately for me, I was able to re-gain my balance. They didn't even stop after nearly pushing me over. :sad2:

If you see them, go in the opposite direction.

This was in late Jan.

That just seems so unfair about letting large groups on rides and shows in front of people who have been waiting  We all pay a lot of money to take a WDW vacay, and think everyone should be treated equally. If I saw this, I think I'd be writting a letter to WDW.

While I agree with you about rude people coming in all ethnic varieties, I do have to kindly DISagree (I know, bad pun. LOL) with you being an over-hyped problem.

I use to feel the same way until our recent stay. There is nothing over-hyped about being behind a couple of tour guides each tying up a FP machine with at least 100 room cards each while a Disney cast member watches. I'm not blaming the cm, but it's obvious WDW has no policy concerning this. I would have no problem with a policy requiring each person to be present at the machine.

I further have a problem when I am standing at an attraction sometimes well over an hour when out of nowhere comes 100 people cutting in line and meeting up with ONE SINGLE PERSON who held their spot.

For me I could care less whether they were old or young, dark or light, fat or skinny, male or female, American or Brazilian, wrong is wrong. I love WDW, I really do, but this is the one thing that really gets under my skin. :headache:

Ah, now that I vented I sure do feel a whole lot better. :lmao:

We were at DHS today and had a small group run me over in my wheelchair today at TOT in the room part. They were hand in hand BEHIND us in the room, and one person came around us, and we couldn't get out of the door!!! Made us MAD!

Yes, rude people do come in all ethnic varieties, however a large group of Brazilian teens were very rude on our last trip. We were standing in the MK hub waiting for fireworks to begin. The group of teens was sitting on the curb, also waiting. They started shouting "Sit down, you stupid Americans!!" I assume they thought they wouldn't be able to see fireworks in the sky??? It was not a pleasant scene and my DH and I decided to leave and watch the fireworks on our way out of the park.

When did foreigners decide they could say those things to us, about us, IN OUR OWN COUNTRY???

Just venting....

By why single out a group from a particular country? Groups do present problems. The American groups do exactly the same thing. They are loud; they allow their friends to cut in line; they push. American groups (they tend to be teens, it's not that teens have exclusives on rudeness) will walk in 'packs' three across and block the sidewalk - refushing to give an inch to anyone walking the opposite direction. They will literally walk into you and then look at you in disgust because you expected them to give five inches to the right!

Okay, so our South American cousins do sometimes express their cheer and enthusiasm. I don't have a problem with that. I kind of enjoy seeign their enthusiasm - certainly less annoying than the Americans who talk ontheir cell phones through every ride or take photos every ten seconds onthe dark rides. THEY should know better!

As for tour group leaders getting multiple fastpasses - at least they know what they are doing. It's far more annoying to me to when an American family sends clueless, hard of hearing, technology-illiterate grandpa or grandma to get Fp's for the family (presumably while they ride) and they have no clue what to do, can't hear the CM giving him directions, and don't trust anyone to help! Argh! When they finally start getting fastpasses, they individually collect each one as it comes out onthe bottom and wait for each one before prepping the next card to go in the machine!pirate:

And trust me....I've been to different countries...maybe that's why I'm sympathetic. When many Americans go to different countries they lose their heads entirely. One example is that used to be a 'thing' for teens to go drink in Canada at 18, and act like total morons, extremely disrepectful of the idea that they were in a different country. For starters they would be loud at all hours and pee wherever they felt like peeing.

I've not been personally to Mexico for spring break, but it's my understanding that 'spring break' in Mexico or the Carribean is basically the same prinicple. Oh, and let's not forget poor teen mecca, Amsterdam...if ever there was a place where American teens feel entitled to totally lose their heads it's Amsterdam!

What is funny about this is people on these boards rant and rave how it is okay to let family members "catch up" to others in line because they went to the bathroom or to get fastpasses. If that is okay then 1 person holding a spot in line for 100 is okay. BTW I think both are wrong but it's a funny hypocrisy on these boards. Kind of like how Brazillians = bad but Pop Warner who have had teams kicked out of resorts for fighting=just kids being kids.

Pretty much I've seen posters equate the Brazilian groups and the Pop Warner kids. At least 1 Brazilian group has been put out of an onsite resort.

I don't recall mentioning any group of people, in fact I stated I dont' care who they are. I also never mentioned about cheering and making noise. I really don't care if a group of kids wants to cheer, shout, or jump up and down as long as they are not doing it down the hotel halls at midnight. My concern was line jumping and monopolizing the FP machines. I have pasted my original comment below so you can once again see I neither mentioned any group by name nor complained about noise.

I agree with you. I also have a problem if even a few are at a FP machine getting tickets and someone holds a spot for them in line. To me, it's no different than 100 doing this.

Since we only go to WDW in July (we only have vacation time then) I will speak only about Brazilions since they literally take over all parks, DTD, and even factory outlets in Orlando. While waiting with my dh and kids in line for Pirates there was a tour leader with maybe 5 kids in front of us. Suddenly, she turns to face me and starts waving both her arms in the air. Perplexed, I turn around to see a hoard (and I'm not exagerating) of Brazilians coming our way, maybe 30-40 of them.:scared1: I grab my 2 kids and tell my dh they are going to cut in front of us just as the first ones reach us and do just that!
I DON'T THINK SO! Without saying anything else we move to the side and manage to get in front of the tour leader who was still waving her arms.
She turns to us and believe it or not starts calling us rude.:confused3 We just ignored her and continued on as there was no chance in He-- that we would let them get in front of my kids. These groups in July were RUDE beyond anything I have ever seen. During AM EMH they got to go in the park by the hundreds before 8:00 A.M. and any other regular on-site guests.
There is no doubt in my mind that Disney caters to them because of $$$ they bring in but at our expense.

This is the very reason why our family will avoid those huge "group times" at Disney...Pop Warner, Cheering, Brazillians, etc. JMO, but Disney could put a stop to line hopping. No matter who it is, Disney shouldn't let anyone hold a spot in line for a mass of people...just not fair to those of us who wait patiently.

The last time DH and I were at Disney together was in January 2001. We saw a lot of Brazillian tour groups and DH hated it. I tolerated them better than he did. He felt they shouldn't even be there, that they should stay in their own country to go on vacation. I realize that is wrong, but the Brazillians were just so rude, it did get annoying. There were so many times the CM was talking, explaining what to do, and the Brazillians wouldn't shut up. I realize they probably didn't understand English, but the rest of us would have liked to hear the CM, not the Brazillians talking loudly amongst themselves. They push and shove, and have no manners.

We will again be going this January for a few days, and I hope we don't encounter too many of the Brazillians this time. :(

it isn't their background the issue for me. rather their behaviors.

they do have this entitled attitude that they take great pride in.
whether they offend or are intrusive toward others have no
meaning for them.

since they have an a~parent lack of knowledge, we gave them a
few lessons, over respecting others, & de~titlement. for free!

one time, a teen decided she was going to ran me over. she
bounced off & right into the weeds. whenever i saw them throwing
trash on the ground, i went right up to them. " the chanting"
isn't @ a level of school spirit. unless you hear how annoying,
disruptive they were @ fantasic, they were upsetting all the
children & when one father stood up, it became evident actions
were needed.

a few observations. their chaperones tried to set limits except
there are not enough of them. the boys in the group were much
more behave then the girls. [ the girls' room were on our way
to our room, & they attempted, time after time, to block us. well
after a long day @ the parks, i was not in the mood to be blocked
so i clear the lane every time. but the boys opened & held doors
for us.] we called security several times. when the chaperones
showed up, they did put them in line but as soon as they left...

..can't stand them abusing the props & throwing trash, "we don't go
to your country, & throw..trash.....

well, understand the concerns over any group being stereo-typing.
that's good for everyone, respecting differences. but i don't think
it is where they come from is the issue, instead, it is their projecting
their prejudices onto american families. what we saw, they think
we are their "lower class". they have this need outside their country
for education. one example, we were doing a character photo,
& a small group jumped in our picture. no , we don't think you're
a that, or add anything to our pictures....out! i chase them &
gave them a lecture that could be understood by any language.

when that father stood up [ they were making his kids cry], so did
alot of other american dads. this was getting close toward getting
ugly. which would have been sad ...for all. interesting, when the show
begun.."they were well behaved."
