I'm just curious. A great deal of people seem to be ready to boycott anyone and everyone who speaks out against a war with Iraq. What are your thoughts on the Pope's position?

"The pope has seized several public events, like noon blessings, to warn of the 'grief and grave consequences' that violence against Iraq may lead to. The pontiff gave an audience to Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz and sent a cardinal as emissary to Baghdad, bringing the pope's message of peace."

"Pressing his personal crusade, the pope sent Cardinal Pio Laghi, the former Vatican ambassador in Washington and a Bush family friend, to warn the president that, without UN sanction, the US was heading for a war that the church would consider both illegal and unjust."

This from an organization that turned a blind eye to atrocities committed during WWII and who can't control their own members atrocities towards children.

The Catholic Church will not suffer from this stand. The Pope is doing what he feels he must. There are many people of all different faiths that are opposed to this war. (The Church took more of a hit with the molestations by priests.)

Wait a minute, if I heard the news right, I do believe that the Pope told Azziz that they must disarm and stop the lying...and when the Cardinal was sent to talk to President Bush he agreed that Iraq is not doing what they are suppose to be doing and must disarm..

I do believe there are other religions who want peace...not just the Catholic Church...and how would you boycott the catholic church...assuming you are Catholic... not go to church anymore, not put money in the basket?? I am just trying to understand here.

which all the religions are opposed to......remember that the pope also would send messages about the death penalties that were being done ........hey.....even as catholics we dont' always agree with what the pope has to say........just like our parents.....never did really listen to what they wanted either......so just veg a wee bit

Mackey Mouse, I'm just trying to understand here, too. I'm trying to understand all this boycott stuff. I don't agree with the boycotts, myself. (I ate brie and listened to the Dixie Chicks, yesterday. ;))

But I spent the morning reading and came upon this site:
http://www.metrospy.com/boycott.htm

It's all starting to seem really freaky to me.

I am sitting here watching Fox News interviewing the marines that are over there.. they were interviewing a young man who came over on a boat from Cuba, some of his relatives died trying to get here.. and now he has joined the Marines to pay back what he has been given in this country.. FREEDOM He built a flag pole in Kuwait and he raises the American Flag everyday as he is proud to be an American..

As far as boycotting... that is a personal decision...I am thoroughly disgusted with the French myself and guess what I am half French....hard to feel disgruntled with your heritage......but if we do not take comfort in our faith than what else do we have... so I may not agree with the Pope's stand on this war.. but I still go to church..

A little off topic but I'm am Catholic and have stopped "practicing" (I guess you could call it boycotting) because of other issues in the Catholic church.

Again, sorry a little off topic.

I guess that is a part of what makes free people free--the ability to speak with their pocketbooks whenever and however they choose. Because of differences in every situation it is not surprising at all to me that some would want to boycott the dixie chicks while still attending their Church. I see huge differences in the dixie chicks' and the pope's remarks. Just free people being free.

The Pope, like everyone else in the free world, has a right to his opinion. And I, like everyone else in the free world, have a right to disagree with it.

My guess is that someone would boycott the Catholic church by no longer attending Mass, thus effectively removing your physical and financial support.

On this and any other Catholic church related issues, I will make one statement. I go to church for God. I practice my religion because it is the one that makes ME feel close to God. What the humans who run the Catholic church say or do has little to do with my relationship with my God.

I would expect the Pope to be a pacifist. That doesn't surprise me. What surprised me was the lack of response to the child molestation issues. I think the perpetrators, those who knew and those who obstructed, should all be in jail. And if I were Catholic, I would have been boycotting those archdiosis that were guilty of the cover up. Those boys (and some girls have been robbed of something that can never be restored.
