OK, so DH and I are looking to buy at BCV sometime in 2009, we ideally would like to travel in October, but I know that is a hard time to get there.

If I book at BCV now as a non-owner and then purchase sometime in 2009, can I transfer my non-owner booking and use my points instead of paying cash? Does this make sense?

Basically I want to book so we'll get a spot and then when we buy use our points on that trip I booked before I had bought.

Thanks to anyone who can understand me and answer. Thanks!!

I guess you are talking about making a cash reservation for the DVC villa at BCV or renting points from a DVC member who would make the reservation for you . . .

re cash reservation : no it can't be converted to a points reservation; it would have to be cancelled if you were still within the cancellation window and you'd have to book new reservation with your points.

re renting points reservation from DVC member : most members will not want to contend with this scenario because of the effort on their part to arrange a reservation that will ultimately be cancelled and also they will then run a risk that they will be stuck with points they cannot utilize as a result of the cancellation. Also most members have a no cancellation policy.

Sorry, you won't be able to do this. The cash inventory and points inventory are completely separate.

All I can suggest is to rent points from a BCV owner for your Oct. stay, at least that will be less expensive than booking BCV through Disney.

OK - thanks, so when do you think I can get BCV if I buy? If we don't buy til February can we still get BCV in October or will it be booked solid? Thanks!

If you try to book much later than 7 months out from your travel dates, you're likely going to find inventory very limited. I tried to book a BCV studio for any Sun-Thurs in October, just a few days after the 7 month window started. Nothing was available.

Also if you plan on buying into BCV you may have to be on a waitlist for the points and/or UY you want if you purchase through Disney. Resale could take a while as well....

Fall1,
As an owner, you could start booking an OCT reservation starting this month at 11 months prior to the check in date.

Food and Wine is a pretty popular time to visit WDW for a lot of DVC owners, so by FEB your dates could be booked up. If so, you could go on the waitlist in case there are any cancellations. If you wait until after the 7month prior point, you are competing with all DVC members so by then the waitlist could be pretty long.

For what it's worth, F&W is the only time I have not been sucessful on the W-L.

Some things to keep in mind: if you buy through Disney (provided they have your UY available), you will be able to make a reservation almost immediately (as soon as the guide gets you entered into the computer) for stays after you close. If you buy a resale, you will not be able to make a reservation until the deed is recorded and the information makes it way over to member services. There may be some lags due to ROFR, too. So, if you want to make that ressie in FEB, plan for the appropriate lead time.
