BL Summer Challenge 2009

Thursday QOTD: One last magical flight of fancy, this one BL-related. If you had the opportunity to be a contestant on the BL, and you had to leave tomorrow, would you go? Your family, job, friends, etc. would all be waiting for you, and all would be fine without you while you were gone (income would continue, kids happy and healthy, spouse/s.o. fine with it, etc.)For this Round, you could not go as a couple, you would be completely on your own. Even if you only need a month (or less) at the Ranch to get to your goal weight, would you go?

I'm mulling this one over. I'm not sure I'd have the courage to do it, which makes me think I need to re-examine my commitment to weight loss. I have a very hard time stepping out of my comfort zone, and I think I need to try that more in general. I am the one holding me back, and my answer to this question illustrates that.

Well, I wouldn't be able to go....unless they had a work out program for the old and infirm. Now....I can imagine myself as I was at age 30 participating in Biggest Loser.

It would be great to see a program that illustrated a way for people with movement 'issues' get started on some kind of inceased activity program, I just don't think that would fit the contest/multi-week kind of foremat of this show. I don't think "let's take grandma for a walk to the mailbox" would be all that exciting....:lmao::lmao:

Yup, I'd go! I love travel and adventure in safe environments so it would be right up my ally!

It depends on the day. Fridays and Saturdays I get less sleep then i do on the weekdays. now that I live in A Rural area I get 8-9 hours of sleep because it's quiet then when i am in the city were it it's hard to get some sleep with all the noise around from Car Sterios and Poliece Helicopters flying over

Well I certainly couldn't leave you at home in the heat now could I? Besides - you'll be able to walk down to the square and back and get some movement in - since you can't swim right now...:rotfl2::thumbsup2:cool1::lmao:

Tough question. I am leaning toward going. It would leave my DH home alone, but I think he would find enough to keep him busy. What really gets me about going, however, is that you absolutely no contact with home while you are on the ranch, unless you win a challege giving you a telephone call home or the ability to receive your mail. That would be oh so hard.

Wow, just enough time to really make an impact, I know you will do great! :goodvibes

Aww, c'mon, don't see yourself short. I usually root for the older contestants because they have it harder! ::yes::

I love that phrase "adventure in safe environments". I'm using that! :thumbsup2

Sounds like a group exercise plan to me! :cool1:

I agree, that would be even tougher than Jillian :scared1: I've been thinking about this question all day, and how I do or allow little things that derail my goal. It's helping me be more mindful :teacher:

Yes, with the conditions that you put on it for income, spouse and kids, then yes I'd go. I believe I'd do great without real life getting in the way, and hopefully get the exercise thing figured out. I believe that my always being tired, and yet not sleeping great would be eliminated if I could get more disciplined. At BL Campus, I'd have no excuses, and hopefully even a couple weeks of that routine would give enough changes that I'd carry it through at home.

On that note, I'm happy to say I did manage to do my step exercises for the last 2 evenings. I have still managed to go over points for the week, and won't get enough exercise in to make it up, but some exercise is better than none, so tonight I have to get the 3rd night in a row done!

Don't panic,,,,,,we have a coach for you all.

Dona and I are just going to 'flip' weeks, so she will be your fearless leader starting Friday. Thanks, Dona!

Thanks pjlla for the offer also!

You know, even with the conditions stated, I don't think I would. My reasons:

1. I would miss my family so, so much.
2. I could never do those advertising spots for Extra Sugar Free Gum or Sugar Free pudding.
3. I don't want to appear on national TV without a shirt for any reason.
4. I really prefer to lose slowly and deliberately, I've decided. The pressure to drop big numbers each week would make me crazy and I don't need any more crazy!

This makes me sound a little wimpy, but I'm seriously in it for the long haul, and BL purports to be for that as well, but really, if you look at it, it is a quick fix - diet and excercise and not a pill or sham, but it's about speed and I am just...not. :-)

oh, and:

5. I know I can get there on my own. I'd be the first one sent home because "She can do it on her own."

Hi- I have never been on the WISH board before...but I really need help, I know that it is kind of late to join this (since summer is half over) I was wondering if I still could though??? I want to lose 20 pounds total (realisticly 10pds by Nov 12 when we go to Disney-I don't want to be disappointed if I don't make it) If it is possible that's great-let me know what I must do, if not that's ok too-good luck to you all in all of your goals.:wizard:

corinnak - I LOVE YOUR ATTITUDE!

And yes, I too, can do this on my own ::yes::
My calves were sore today from the stepping the last 2 nights, so tonight I pulled out the exercise bike and did 10K :banana:
Now that football season is here, I usually do the bike or stepping when DH has a game on. Tonight I started just as the game he was watching ended, and then he put on a Sammy Hagar concert he'd recorded, which helped me keep my pace up and stick with it for the full 10K. Tomorrow night, I have to do it again, but this time I want 10.5K. :goodvibes

::yes:: you can still join! Anybody can join at anytime.

I think the first post in the thread outlines how everything works, but to sum it up:
1) All you have to do to be official is to PM me (LuvBaloo) your weight (XXX or XXX.X lbs) every Friday. If you are doing some other program and your weigh-in date is not Friday's, you can just use and send it in Friday. I post a results summary early the following week.
2) There's an optional COW (challenge of the week) that Donac posts, which is another way to help yourself have healthy habits.
3) Lisa0711 has organized different people to be coach for a week, and they generally will post a "Question of the Day" to keep us all thinking!

Officially handing over the coaching duties -- thanks for your patience with my "flights of fancy" questions. I've sort of felt like a hypocrite, not losing much while I'm coaching, but like Corinna said, we're in this for the long haul!

We're in good hands with Dona!

Good Friday morning everyone.

Thanks Maria for coaching this week. YOu had some great questions. I don't think mine will be as interesting as yours. And NO I don't think I would do BL. I would love to have someone to be my personal trainer all day every day for a summer but I couldn't leave my home for that long. I never even went away to college. I did when I was in my 40's and my dh told me if I got in trouble I had to call my mother.

There is NO COW this week

I thought we could use a week off. The number of participants have been falling and I thought we should take a break and come back fresh next week.

Question of the Day If you had one day in DW and could only go to 1 park which park would it be?

I hope everyone has a great day and a great weigh in. I have 2 more weeks until I can get back to weighing in. They put a new cast on my foot on Wednesday and it will be at least 2 weeks until I get it off.

Have a great day everyone.

Welcome yrdlyprincess. This groups makes everybody feel welcome. I only joined a couple weeks ago myself.

If I could only go to one park, I would be so torn. But, in the end it would be Epcot. I love being able to walk around to the different countries and eat all the different foods (did I just say that?). Hum, might be one of the reasons I am here on the WISH board. I love the Food and Wine Festival.

I weighed in this morning and am the same weight as last Friday. Considering how bad I was over the 4th of July weekend, I am thankful to just "be the same".

I hope everybody has a good weekend!

Hey everyone - Sorry I've been MIA - been so busy with a wedding and DD17 has been getting a job so we've been running her around to get Dr appointments, working papers, back and forth to place of employment, etc. - so its been crazy. I did lose a pound. Gotta keep it up :)

I've got so little time before we leave - and this past month has really not been much in the way of a loss. I've gotta get off my rear and kick it up and make this last month count. I leave in 4 weeks. Not sure how I'm going to pull this off, but I have to be diligent and really get my rear in gear. My shorts still don't fit, one is tight. Man this stinks, but I have to lose a little more at least. Plus I'm super scared of getting there and gaining 10-12 pounds before I leave putting me back where I was when I started this whole challenge. 18 days in Disney is scary when I know the places we have to eat are not good for the waistline.

Today is going good so far.
