BL Summer Challenge 2009

Ever have one of those really discouraging moments? I picked up my uniform for Worlds of Fun (training day is tomorrow). Right now I am in that maddening place where a 12 is too snug but a 14 is too loose. (I wear 14s). I told them 14 and discovered they gave me 16 for my shorts. I get two uniforms. One pair was so tight I almost could not zip it. The other is snug but not wretched.

I know when I worked at Disney the costumers were the same way. I would normally wear a 6 or 8, but when I worked Fantasyland I often had to grab 10s or 12s. It still so frustrating though. It's a psychological blow. It doesn't help that I was unpacking clothes and as I did so I was putting clothes that are too small in the spare bedroom. There are so many that do not fit right now. Although many of them are borderline, and it will feel really good to get into them!

Good Morning Biggest Losers!

I hope everyone is ready to have a relaxing and renewing day, doing whatever you need to in order to be ready for the week ahead, confident in your strategy to succeed!

Sunday QOTD: Yesterday was a special event day for everyone. Were you able to stick with your plan? If not, what will you do today to get yourself right back on track? Either way, you are thinking more about what you are doing than ever before, and that is progress!

I did stick with my plan pretty much. I think I would have liked to have been a bit more active, so that's in my plan for today. My TM's motor is broken (we discovered Friday), and it will be at least 2 weeks before the new one comes in and it is repaired. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around doing alternative exercise -- I am a "home alone" kind of girl for that, and I'm going to have to expand my horizons.

I weighed in Wed. and had a 4.8# loss after 2 weeks of gains!
Saturday QOTD: How do you plan to celebrate your independence from being heavier today?

I'm going to a cook-out, but bringing my own lunchbox! I'm taking my favorite hot dog (Oscar Mayer turkey cheese dog), my 1 pt. hot dog bun, diet 7-up, and some fruit. Only 17 days til my quick trip to Disney with DH, so I have to be good!

Congratulations on your loss! :yay: I think that is a great plan, bringing your own food. I hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to that wonderful quick trip!

Happy 4th of July!

Saturday QOTD: How do you plan to celebrate your independence from being heavier today?

I plan to celebrate by taking small portions of the things that I want to eat and not overdoing it. I don't think that going without those foods will help; I need to be able to control how much of those things that I eat.

You're just like me, if I absolutely can't eat something, I'll eat more of it than I should. Allowing small portions makes it a real treat! :thumbsup2

I plan to spend the day focusing on the social aspect of the get togethers instead of on the food side.

A fantastic strategy! How great to really enjoy being with people more than what is going in your mouth. ::yes::

Happy 4th to all you Americans!
I think I'm the only Canadian in this BL.

I'm glad you had something to celebrate yesterday, I hope it went well for you! :goodvibes

Happy 4th of July!
I spent the morning working in the yard with DH -- lots of digging and raking before it got too warm.

Yardwork is a great way to burn calories! Sometimes you work muscles you'd forgotten you have! ;)

I saved WW points for a hot dog and french fries today! That's it, no desserts, no mayonasie salads, just a REAL hot dog. That's what I'd been craving.:upsidedow

Was the real hotdog all you had hoped it would be? Those food cravings can go either way for me. Sometimes I am having a party in my mouth, others it just doesn't taste as good as I remember :confused3

Ever have one of those really discouraging moments?

I am so sorry :grouphug: I think we've all had those moments when you try on a different brand, etc., and it just fits differently. You are making great progress, though! Try not to let it discourage you too much. After working in the hot sun at Worlds of Fun, you are going to see lbs leaving, probably in droves! Hang in there! :wizard:

I hope everyone had a very Happy 4th!!

Happy 4th to all you Americans!
I think I'm the only Canadian in this BL.

I am also Canadian, But live in the states for another year then I'll be back home. DH is here on an exchange program for 4 years... I am looking forward to going back home to Ottawa.

Good morning, losers! Hope that everyone enjoyed their 4th of July and Canada Day celebrations this week-end!

Sunday QOTD: Yesterday was a special event day for everyone. Were you able to stick with your plan? If not, what will you do today to get yourself right back on track? Either way, you are thinking more about what you are doing than ever before, and that is progress!

I am happy to say that I was able to stick to plan yesterday. :goodvibes DH is cooking us some chicken dish from Cooking Light so I will be able to stay on track today. I have houseguests coming soon so will get in a lot of steps and activity points today. I am hoping for another boat ride this afternoon.

I have birthday marathon with guests looming later this week. DS turns 10 Wednesday :scared1: and my birthday is Saturday. My Mom and sister are coming to visit for a few days. The food part will be fine but the cake part . . . well, I love birthday cake so my flex and activity points will be used so I can have a small slice for each birthday. I do think about what I do more than ever before, and it is easier to make the good choice, so I would say that is progress!

Have a happy Sunday, losers!

I did ok yesterday. I only ate what I really was craving and tried to cut points where I could. That being said I am sure I ate all my points for the day and not sure how many weekly allowance points I had but probably close to all of them with the fat content of some of the foods. That being said, I did way better than I would have when not op and I was soooo much more consious of what I was doing as opposed to mindless eating. I am working 48 hours in the next 3 days so I won't have a chance to go off plan, (or work out unfortunately).

Hope everyone has a great week!

Sarah

Hi All - We had a nice day yesterday. We went to Annapolis, Maryland, to see the fireworks for the first time. They were much better than our local fireworks are. Local fireworks shoot up a rocket and then wait and wait. I like continuous fireworks. I guess I am just spoiled by Disney fireworks.

Sunday QOTD: Yesterday was a special event day for everyone. Were you able to stick with your plan? If not, what will you do today to get yourself right back on track? Either way, you are thinking more about what you are doing than ever before, and that is progress!

Yesterday was not my best day for "sticking to the plan". My DH has all this food that he wanted for the 4th of July. Homemade potato salad, corn on the cob, BBQ chicken, pineapple upside down cake. Then we went to see the fireworks and there was more cake. Oh my.

Anyway, back to plan A today.

Saturday QOTD:How do you plan to celebrate your independence from being heavier today? Our Canadian contestants have a head start, they've been celebrating for 3 days already!

I started out by running that 10 mile race - I was faster than I anticipated I could possibly be, averaging 10:30 minutes per mile, to finish in just under 1:46. When I ran the half marathon, 30 pounds ago, I was almost 3 minutes per mile slower. I had a great time at this race!

Sunday QOTD: Yesterday was a special event day for everyone. Were you able to stick with your plan? If not, what will you do today to get yourself right back on track? Either way, you are thinking more about what you are doing than ever before, and that is progress!

In addition to the run, I walked another 2 miles to the parade and back and stopped with the dog at the dog beach for an hour of fetch in the water for him. When we got back. I took a little nap and then cooked dinner for 8 - tofu and portobello mushroom fajitas. I did eat more WP's yesterday because I was kind of HUNGRY and had racked up 16 AP's before dinner, so I figured using 7 or 8 points more than the target number was appropriate. I hate that about this incarnation of WW - there is something in me that would rather use the activity points first. I guess it doesn't matter in the end but even with 3 hours of activity, it is a large mental thing trying to decide just how many "extra" points I dare use.

Hi all...I am still at work. A little over 12 hours down, a little less than 4 hours to go. I have felt really snacky today, probably because I am bored, but hey, I am getting paid. I didn't bring any cash with me so even though I am tempted by the vending machine, I have no way of actually getting anything out of it, thank goodness!

On a different note, I called home and found out that my ds was watching The Incredibles for the first time. He seemed to be really enjoying it when I talked with him. I need to be sure he sees Toy Story before we go on vacation as two of the rides I am really looking forward to are centered around that movie!

Take care all,
Sarah

Monday QOTD: What piece of advice have you read in a diet book or article that has really stayed with you?

The most recent thing I read was that you should only record the losses when you weigh, if you have an "up" day, don't write it down. I'm going to try this, I think it will look really great to have a month with only losses, and it will phase me less when I don't see the day-to-day fluctuations.

Monday QOTD: What piece of advice have you read in a diet book or article that has really stayed with you?

Great question, Maria! I've incorporated "healthy reading" (otherwise known as brainwashing!) into my daily program, so I've gotten a few. One of my favorites is a testimonial on the WW website. Some of my favorite quotes from it that I keep coming back to are:

"There is no timeframe in which you have to accomplish this. You are a remedial Weight Watchers member. You've had to repeat the course before, and this time, you'll graduate."

"Make peace with tracking. Consider that what you don't write down on paper is going to get written down on a body part where it can't be erased as easily."

Here's another from the book "The End of Overeating" that has helped me overcome my previous constant desire to snack on bad, bad stuff:

"Sometimes just one taste of a food - a single dose- is enough to trigger conditioned hypereating. We call that effect "priming" and it's another way to kick overeating behavior into action, even when we're not hungry....

When we're hungry, almost any food can have a priming effect - in fact, that's one of the risks of dieting. But in the absence of hunger, only highly palatable foods are likely to spark further eating. 'Having a little bit makes you want more and then you have it and it makes you want still more....That's when it becomes hard to stop."

All right - this wasn't advice, but it reinforced my own advice to myself which was "It is so much easier if I just don't START with the junk and stick with healthy food which is good but does not make me crazy."

Monday QOTD: What piece of advice have you read in a diet book or article that has really stayed with you?

Maria :upsidedow

Hmmm...I guess my favorite is "Do I want to eat something fabulous or do I want to BE fabulous". I may have read that on this thread when we did the "inspirational quote" QOTD. It has helped me in many situations. Also the knowledge that this is a journey not a destination.

I am at work again....another 16 hour shift...only about 15 hours to go!:cheer2: Hope everyone is having a great day!

Yes, I did manage to do well. I monopolized by 1month old niece at DFIL's birthday party, which made it very easy to avoid munchy on the potato chips as my hands were full. ;) :goodvibes

I am also Canadian, But live in the states for another year then I'll be back home. DH is here on an exchange program for 4 years... I am looking forward to going back home to Ottawa.

It must be hard to adjust to the weather change from Ottawa to Georgia:eek:

Monday QOTD: What piece of advice have you read in a diet book or article that has really stayed with you?

Don't deny yourself. Plan for small bits of treats, because total denial can lead to totally falling off track.
Also: don't beat yourself up and quick after a small setback. Don't allow a small setback to turn into a huge one!

I am happy to say that I spent 3 hours out kayaking yesterday, and while I'm definitely feeling sore today, its not as bad as I thought it was going to be. We did splurge on McDonald's afterwards, but with the activity points earned, it was okay.

Here's a picture of from my fun afternoon.

Good afternoon, losers!

Glad to hear that everyone had a good week-end and stayed OP. :goodvibes

Shannon, looks like fun kayaking!

Sarah, I hope that you get a day off here pretty soon -- you work so hard but you are always so positive and OP! :flower3:

Monday QOTD: What piece of advice have you read in a diet book or article that has really stayed with you?

I have a whole list of emails I've saved from sparkpeople and WW to review when I feel like I need a little motivation. One of my favorite articles is this one called "What does 300 calories really look like?" from Sparkpeople. I think I've shared it before but it is a good one to review on portion sizes -- it's an eye opener how much more you can eat when you are eating the "good stuff" or a good review on how you think you are doing well but are really not! :lmao:

Have a great day, losers!

I am bored. And I know I am bored because I feel the need to snack. Luckily I am at work so can only snack on what I pre selected this morning. I try to eat every couple of hours to keep me feeling less hungry, but I am bored and am not in a place I can easily find things to do...I suppose I could try to clean, but then what would the cleaning crew do? Uggg. And it doesn't help that I am tired. Oh well, I get to go home in 8.5 hours. Not too bad.

Sarah

Shannnon I am so envious of you going out kayaking. I am counting the days until I can swim and go kayaking. I am looking at the beginning of Aug. before I can do this. Iam glad you enjoyed it. Did you go out on a lake or a stream or a bay?

It must be hard to adjust to the weather change from Ottawa to Georgia:eek:

At first it was difficult, but I am acclimatized to Georgia now... Going back home will be interesting especially during the first snow.

this past week went REALLY well, I was on plan and just ON. I worked out everyday and ate within my points... Until Saturday Went to the movies hungry. BIG MISTAKE. The movie was a spur of the moment left turn which meant DH bought a tub of popcorn (which I proceeded to eat) I'm going to be working double time this week to get rid of those extra empty calories.

Tuesday QOTD: Let's have a little Disney Magic! What character do you most identify with on your weight loss journey?

As you can tell by my avatar, I'm a Belle girl, but I feel most like Mulan as I try to lose weight -- it seems as hard as saving China, and I keep making mistakes, but I know if I don't give up I will eventually see the fireworks!

Sorry I haven't been able to do alot of replying. It's our busy season at work, which makes me exhausted when I finally get home. I'm not giving up on weight loss though. I am trying to cut the snacking which I do when we get busy, and trying to fit in a walk here and there...even if I just keep up what I can, I'll be better off than if I just stopped trying. But don't worry, there's no danger of me making any BL lists!
