BL Summer Challenge 2009

Good morning, losers! :cool1:

Thanks, worfiedoodles, for being our coach last week and welcome, donac!

Jackie, have a good time in the cooler weather. I remember living through the Arizona summers and you need a break!

Welcome, :welcome: yrdlyprincess! There's always room for more!

I have company so I am a little behind on posting. We are celebrating two birthdays this week so I am using all my flexpoints on birthday cake. :goodvibes

Thursday QOTD: One last magical flight of fancy, this one BL-related. If you had the opportunity to be a contestant on the BL, and you had to leave tomorrow, would you go? Your family, job, friends, etc. would all be waiting for you, and all would be fine without you while you were gone (income would continue, kids happy and healthy, spouse/s.o. fine with it, etc.)For this Round, you could not go as a couple, you would be completely on your own. Even if you only need a month (or less) at the Ranch to get to your goal weight, would you go?

I have to admit that I have never watched the show so I don't know. From what I have seen, I don't know if I would survive all the exercising, etc., all at once. I am afraid I would croak! I think that I am doing a good job on my own finding an eating and workout program that I can do for the rest of my life.

Question of the Day If you had one day in DW and could only go to 1 park which park would it be?

I would choose EPCOT. There is so much to do and I go to DL quite often so I wouldn't miss the Magic Kingdom too much. I would miss Animal Kingdom, though.

Don't forget to PM your weigh in info to LuvBaloo and your COW info for last week's COW to donac. Thank you ladies for being weighkeeper and COW keeper. :flower3:

Have a great OP day all!

Lisa0711 has organized different people to be coach for a week, and they generally will post a "Question of the Day" to keep us all thinking!

Speaking of the coaching schedule . . . :lmao: here is the coaching schedule for the rest of the challenge.

7/10 - 7/16 donac
7/17 - 7/23 ibouncetoo
7/24 - 7/30 MelanieC
7/31 - 8/6 sahbushka
8/7 - 8/14 lisah0711

Thanks to everyone for coaching -- it is so nice to have different perspectives!

Have a great day, all!

Good Friday morning everyone.

Thanks Maria for coaching this week. YOu had some great questions. I don't think mine will be as interesting as yours. And NO I don't think I would do BL. I would love to have someone to be my personal trainer all day every day for a summer but I couldn't leave my home for that long. I never even went away to college. I did when I was in my 40's and my dh told me if I got in trouble I had to call my mother.

There is NO COW this week

I thought we could use a week off. The number of participants have been falling and I thought we should take a break and come back fresh next week.

Question of the Day If you had one day in DW and could only go to 1 park which park would it be?

I hope everyone has a great day and a great weigh in. I have 2 more weeks until I can get back to weighing in. They put a new cast on my foot on Wednesday and it will be at least 2 weeks until I get it off.

Have a great day everyone.

I would deffinitely choose Magic Kingdom...it was Walts original vision and I love the magic!
Hey everyone - Sorry I've been MIA - been so busy with a wedding and DD17 has been getting a job so we've been running her around to get Dr appointments, working papers, back and forth to place of employment, etc. - so its been crazy. I did lose a pound. Gotta keep it up :)

I've got so little time before we leave - and this past month has really not been much in the way of a loss. I've gotta get off my rear and kick it up and make this last month count. I leave in 4 weeks. Not sure how I'm going to pull this off, but I have to be diligent and really get my rear in gear. My shorts still don't fit, one is tight. Man this stinks, but I have to lose a little more at least. Plus I'm super scared of getting there and gaining 10-12 pounds before I leave putting me back where I was when I started this whole challenge. 18 days in Disney is scary when I know the places we have to eat are not good for the waistline.

Today is going good so far.

18 Days at Disney!!!!! In my wildest dreams I try to imagine two weeks (and that's a pretty wild dream!) but 18 days! That would be soooooooooo amazing....could actually do everything at a reasonable pace!

So I had a pretty good loss this week and met both my summer wl goal and my birthday goal...(today's my birthday!)

Hope everyone has a great op day!

Sarah

Happy birthday, Sarah! :bday:party:

July birthdays totally rock -- DS turned 10 on Wednesday and I turn 49 tomorrow :scared1:!

Have a super, super day! And just think by our next birthdays we are going to be so healthy!

Rough weigh in today after our little staycation this week. We've been dining out to treat ourselves and only worked out twice. So I'm up 3.8 pounds - GAH! I'm hoping some of that is just water and I can drop it all this week. I've been having some stomach issues too, not sure if they are contributing. Back OP this week!

Thursday QOTD: Would you go on Biggest Loser?
Yes! I know it would be difficult, but I love the challenges and would welcome a chance to only focus on weight loss and being healthy. While watching last season, I was thinking Biggest Loser should open a resort, complete with healthy meals, trainers, fun challenges, etc. All the good parts, without having to leave your family for a month or more.

Friday QOTD: One park?
I would have to choose Epcot if it was just DH and I, but MK if we have DD along with us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SARAH!

I haven't officially joined as my program (medifast) has weekly counselor sessions, etc but I sure do like lurking here and popping in to support everyone. Especially my sis IBOUNCETOO -I hope that's ok. I really love the QOTD and reading responses - what a great group of folks you are. I had a bit of a setback this week - with the heat and my cranky premenopausal nature - I'm just frustrated - but I know what to do... I'm going to the gym - nothing snaps me out of it quicker. I used to just feel sorry for myself and that NEVER worked-so one thing I know - do what works right? I hope everybody has a great FRIDAY - and in a couple of hours my sis and DH will be home and we'll be heading up to the mountains of Norther Arizona to beat-the-heat at a lovely little craftsman cottage I rented - have a great weekend all - and (my own personal quote _ ONWARD AND DOWNWARD!):wizard::surfweb::cool1:

Happy Birthday - Woo hoo! My birthday is this coming Tuesday - we have so many July birthdays around here :)

18 days does allow you do do everything at a reasonable pace, but it's turning out to be like our 15-16 day trips because we are doing SW, US, and IOA - so it took 4 of our days off the plate, plus first and last are driving days. I think we are ending up with 4 days MK, 4 Epcot, 3 AK and 2 DHS (we may take one of the Epcot days and make it another DHS day if we need it - that will be our last day and will decide that day.

Happy birthday, Sarah! :bday:party:

Happy birthday to you too :)

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!

A great NSV today is that I am wearing the next size down in work pants! When I started, the pants I was in were getting waaaayyy too tight and it was the biggest size work pant they offered. Now I am out of those and into the next smaller size! Thank you all for sharing this journey with me! We are making great strides to a happy and healthier life!

Sarah

Thanks Maria for coaching last week! and thanks to Dona for taking it on this week!

Question of the Day If you had one day in DW and could only go to 1 park which park would it be?

Only 1 day, it would probably be MK so I could go to Mickey's Philharmagic!

:cool1: Happy Birthday!
Dropping more than a full size is fantastic! And what does NSV mean?:confused3

I did my weigh in this morning, and I'm up again, which I have expected since my eating has not been good, and although I've got some exercise in, it wasn't enough to balance out. So next week will be better. I am ticked off at myself, since I have made no progress in this challenge, and with today's gain, I'm actually 0.1 higher than when this challenge started. But I can kick my own butt back into line.

Tomorrow DH & I are planning to take the DD's and go kayaking again; but this time, I will not be eating a big meal from McDonald's afterwards. :goodvibes

I would be at the Magic Kingdom riding Space Mountain. allthough if I was there now I would Be bummed because Space Mountain is closed because Rehab

Friday QOTD: With only one day, I'd choose EPCOT. Plenty of variety and plenty of room in case it's a crowded day in the Parks. I do want to go back to MK and ride SM once it's done, and also the Hall of Presidents -- but if it's now I'd go with EPCOT.

I'm down a tad, not enough to really count. The TM parts came, so we scheduled for Monday. You have to give them an 8 hr. window, so I'm having a sick day. This sick day will prevent many more in the future!

NSV = Non Scale Victory!:goodvibes

I just had another one too. Someone brought in pizza today and I decided to have 2 pieces (normally I would have 4-5)...after eating the 2 pieces I am STUFFED!!!! And I mean really really full! I never thought 2 pieces of pizza could do that to me! I attribute it to eating small snacks/meals often so I haven't really had a large meal in a while.

Later Gators

Ok - I've been fretting all day about my upcoming trip and how I'm no where near close to being around the 150 I had hoped to be by my vacation next month. Does this sound silly or could this work.

If I were to exercise in the morning and evening and burn -

200 calories in the morning via walking or treadmill (with some running thrown in there)

and 400 calories in the evening via walking or treadmill (again with some more running)

starting today till I leave which is in 4 weeks.

200 x 7 = 1400 x 4 weeks = 5600 calories burned for morning
400 x 7 = 2800 x 4 weeks = 11,200 calories burned for evening

for a total of 16,800 calories burned before my vacation divided by 3500 calories in a pound I should be able to burn off 4.8 pounds this month not including what I lose due to any deficit in calories in my diet.

Am I wrong to think this could work? Seems to easy - course I gotta do the work !!

But it's only 4 weeks right. I tell myself I'm doing a Disney Marathon in 4 weeks, lol and have to train.

I think I could muster up the energy and willpower to do it for 4 weeks if I knew that I could lose almost 5 pounds from that alone.

Is there something wrong in my thinking- just making sure I'm not missing something - seems to easy.

I guess its the same as the BL players losing because they work out.

I guess I'll see if 400 calories in the evening is do-able. I know 300 is, 400 should just be a little bit more of a push.

Wish me luck - I'm going to start tonight.

Good luck Melanie! You sound super-motivated!:cheer2::cheer2:

Sara - thanks for explaining NSV :goodvibes

Congratulations and Happy Birthday!! party: Hope you're having a great day. It is so nice to go down a size!!

Melanie- I think that sounds like a great plan, and do-able. You definitely sound like you have the motivation you need to succeed. You can do it!!

Lisa- Happy Birthday to you and your son. party::bday:party: Enjoy that cake. You've earned, and that's what those flex points are for!!

I am back, and hoping to get more involved with the thread again. I did weigh in last week, but didn't really get back on program until tuesday, but am happy to see the scale down 2 of the 5.6 pounds I gained. The past 3 days I did get up and exercise too which is helpful. When I think of how badly I ate the beginning of the week, I think how much more I could have lost if I hadn't done that. I'm planning to stay in a healthier routine now. I need to. Only 2 pair of my scrub pants fit me now, and I won't go up a size, so it's laundry every other night, til I get some of this weight off.

I went back to work tuesday, and the week was up and down emotionally, but I'm trying to take it one day at a time. I miss my mom so much sometimes, but then I'll think of so many good memories we shared with her, and that helps. My son started camp this week, and the first few days he was not too happy, but we talked and went over what happened through the day to upset him, and talked to the counselors, and by today, he said this camp was awesome, and a 5 star camp. I think he was also very emotional and sensitive, and after being home with me for the past few weeks, it was hard to switch gears. He usually so easygoing, and loved camp last year, and today, he seems much better. After camp, we went to Salem Willows, a park on the water, and had supper, climbed on the rocks, and played in the arcade. I'm trying to make it a point to have some special one-on-one time with him, and give him the attention I've been lacking the past few weeks. We had a really fun night.

Congrats to all the losers!! It was great to see the halfway top losers! 3-9% is fabulous, in such a short time. Thanks LuvBaloo for being the weightkeeper.

Thanks dona for coaching this week, and cow-keeping, and Maria for coaching last week. I did read through, though didn't respond to all the qotds. I really like them too, so I'll start again with todays.
I think I would go to DHS. It's hard to pick, but we love the down time in the animation studio, and meeting all the characters, and saw fantasmic in january for the first time, and loved it.

Keep up the great work losers, and if you're struggling, hang in there, and don't give up. I remember someone said it is the journey, not the destination. Every day on a healthier path, is a good day, even if it's not perfect. Have a nice weekend.

[yes:: you can still join! Anybody can join at anytime.

I think the first post in the thread outlines how everything works, but to sum it up:
1) All you have to do to be official is to PM me (LuvBaloo) your weight (XXX or XXX.X lbs) every Friday. If you are doing some other program and your weigh-in date is not Friday's, you can just use and send it in Friday. I post a results summary early the following week.
2) There's an optional COW (challenge of the week) that Donac posts, which is another way to help yourself have healthy habits.
3) Lisa0711 has organized different people to be coach for a week, and they generally will post a "Question of the Day" to keep us all thinking!
thanks so much!! I'll pm you with this mornings weight-- one of my neighbors is beating me too (that he said I can't lose 6 pds in p wks-when he will lose 15 pds in 6 wks) there is a case a beer for the winner -so I may end up losing in the end one way or any other--If I win I give the case to DH!

[Welcome yrdlyprincess. This groups makes everybody feel welcome. I only joined a couple weeks ago myself.

Question of the Day If you had one day in DW and could only go to 1 park which park would it be?

If I could only go to one park, I would be so torn. But, in the end it would be Epcot. I love being able to walk around to the different countries and eat all the different foods (did I just say that?). Hum, might be one of the reasons I am here on the WISH board. I love the Food and Wine Festival.

I weighed in this morning and am the same weight as last Friday. Considering how bad I was over the 4th of July weekend, I am thankful to just "be the same".

I hope everybody has a good weekend!
Thanks so much!

Ok guys - Me and my DD17 took a walk this evening and we did 4.5 miles at around 450 calories burned.

I think I'm going to start a thread and anyone else can join me if they want. I also think I can do 2 miles most days Monday -Friday at work. That should be another 200 calories a day and I wouldn't be walking that one fast at all because I try to not sweat too much.

I'm definately going to give this the best shot I can.......I can totally do it and I don't think some walking and intervals each day are going to be overdoing it at all. Ever since I did the 1/2 marathons back in 2005 doing 5-6 miles at a time has never bothered me, so I think I'll be ok. 4.5 miles tonight was easy and we could have kept going but we were hungry.

This is going to be an awesome experiment......I so hope it works and if it does, I'm going to kick myself for not getting off my butt and doing it months ago. :rolleyes1

Wow- I think that I'm motivated just reading everyones stories!! I did 3.5 miles this morning on the treadmill-kids were asleep, and going to try :wizard: for the same tomorrow morning!

Question of the day: which park @ DW would I go to if only one day--DH says MK--he loves it, for toss between Epcot & MK-- in the end it would be MK--there will always be that "kid" inside me!
