BL Summer Challenge 2009

Tuesday QOTD: Let's have a little Disney Magic! What character do you most identify with on your weight loss journey?

It's taking a little more than a bibbity bobbity boo or two, but lately, I am feeling transformed! So I guess its either Cinderella or Brother Bear..... Or maybe the wardrobe from Beauty and the Beast!

I am back from being MIA for a while. Between computer problems again (I think we are on the way now:)), weekend away, etc. I just haven't been on. No time to go back and read what I've missed but I have been thinking of you all.

I could have done better over the weekend but it could have been worse too. I'm focusing on drinking lots of water this week and getting back to smaller portions.

I'll try to stay caught up from here on out:thumbsup2.

Tuesday QOTD: Let's have a little Disney Magic! What character do you most identify with on your weight loss journey?

Mickey has always been my favorite. He's been with me my entire journey -- up and down. "My only hope is that we never lose sight of one thing, that it was all started by a mouse."

Shannnon I am so envious of you going out kayaking. I am counting the days until I can swim and go kayaking. I am looking at the beginning of Aug. before I can do this. Iam glad you enjoyed it. Did you go out on a lake or a stream or a bay?

It was a lake. So far we've only gone out on lakes. DH and I are just recreational/casual kayakers. Lakes are plentiful (there's 2 within 15min of our house!).

Tuesday QOTD: Let's have a little Disney Magic! What character do you most identify with on your weight loss journey?

For me, its Goofy. I always have great intentions and I frequently mess it up! :goodvibes

Sorry, I didn't manage to get the results up last night. I promise they will be posted before I go to bed tonight!:flower3:

I'm back from vacation! Was gone from 6/19 - yesterday, 7/6. Spent 7 days at WDW then drove to Ohio and spent a week there. I was very concerned about gaining weight on vacation, after all we had the Disney Dining Plan! I did pretty well, but there were a few things I couldn't resist. I was afraid to get on the scale! But when I did, this morning, I was down .7 from the last time I weighed! I expected a gain so was delighted with the minimal loss. Ready to get back on track now, so much easier at home!:cheer2:

Congratulations! Anytime you can go to Disney World and come back with a loss is a reason to celebrate!

Tuesday QOTD: Let's have a little Disney Magic! What character do you most identify with on your weight loss journey?

The fairy godmother from Cinderella...She is rolly polly yet very steady and though she has the magic to help others, she doesn't use it on herself. I feel I am good at encouraging other and I feel like I am slowly and steadily making progress. I often give better advice to others than I do for myself.

Sarah

Good afternoon, losers!

lulamc, welcome back and great job on a little loss after vacation! :cool1:

corinnak, I doubt if you were ever even close to the wardrobe . . . but thanks for getting that song stuck in my head . . . when I'm human again . . . :lmao:

Tuesday QOTD: Let's have a little Disney Magic! What character do you most identify with on your weight loss journey?

This is an interesting question, Maria! I've thought about it all day and maybe it's because it is a busy week, but I mostly feel like the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland lately! I just feel like I am running around like crazy. :rotfl2: I think I am getting somewhere it is just not as quickly as I would like.

Have a great evening, losers!

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars for Week 7 of our BL Summer Challenge!

Okay folks, here a few stats to see how the challenge is doing at the half-way mark.

FIRST THINGS FIRST - if you think I've made a mistake, please let me know! I'm human, I occasionally mess things up! The intent in reporting the stats is to help motivate. If reading the results posts, doesn't motivate, please skip right over them! :)

Total # of weigh-ins: 199!:worship:

Average % Loss of those still active in the challenge: 3.0%:thumbsup2

(by "still active" I mean anybody who hasn't dropped out by not reporting 3 weeks in a row)

I have to say I'm amazed at how many of us are sticking with the challenge during the craziness of summer! We all deserve a round of applause! ::yes:: I know if I wasn't doing this, I'd probably be gaining back everything that I lost in the last 6 months!

Here's the people who have reported in every week! (if you let me know you were going to be away, it still counts! it even counts if you reported late! if I know you had a really good reason for not reporting in (ie tonsillitis), I gave you a late excused, and you get counted!)

Wow! That really puts it in perspective for me. I was getting a bit down for not being in the top few people for 3 out of the last 4 weeks but obvioulsy I have still done pretty well! Thank you for posting this!

Sarah

And congrats to all of us who have done a great job of trying to make this a healthy summer!

Wednesday QOTD: Studies have shown that people who get 7-8 hours of sleep per night lose more weight than those getting less sleep. Do you feel like you get enough sleep? If not, can you start going to bed a little earlier each night until you reach the right amount for you?

This is an area where I've had to show real discipline. When my TM is working, I get up at 4:30 most days to do an hour before work. This means lights out at 9:30. I would probably feel even better if I made it 9, but so far that's eluded me. Thank goodness for Tivo! I can't give up my membership in the Colbert Nation! ::yes::

Congratulations to everyone who has done so well! We have a fantastic bunch of losers, I am really proud! Did anyone see that Marty and Amy from BL Season 3 just had their first child? They both look very healthy and sound ecstatic!

Maria :upsidedow

Congratulations to all of last weeks losers. Personally, I don't think this week is going to go so well, but we'll see on Friday.

I wish I could get more sleep than I do. I go to bed at night and just can't seem to go to sleep. Sometimes it takes me 2 or 3 hours before I can fall asleep -- and then a couple hours later, I wake up. I know part of it right now is the stress of being unemployed. With a daughter in college, I just don't know where the money is going to come from next semester to keep her going. But, I am thankful we have enough money to cover the bills, just very little extra.

A big congratulations to maznorm and all the biggest losers this week! :cool1: Well done!

maznorm, I hope that you are feeling better and are over your tonsillitis. :goodvibes

Yep! That would be me, too. We all deserve a big pat on the back for staying OP and making progress this summer! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I am one of those people who need 9 hours of sleep. I've always been that way. I get very cranky and just can't do what needs to be done if I don't have enough sleep. I can ususally go to sleep without any problem but if I wake up in the night, the brain turns on and I end up not going back to sleep. The good news is that by going to bed early, I have time to exercise in the morning which is a life saver for me. I don't use an alarm clock so I figure I must be getting enough sleep.

 to you disney1990. I hope that your employment situation improves soon. Has your daughter visited with the financial aid folks at her college lately? There are lots of folks in the same pinch and maybe she qualifies for some different aid or a loan. I will send good thoughts and pixiedust: your way.

Have a great day everyone!

WTG all you super stars this week:cool1::cool1:. Love the half way stats too...congrats to all that made the list as well. I know that I haven't lost like I had wanted to so far but I am happy that I'm not gaining. I sound like a broken record but I know what I need to do, it is just getting back to it and that is exercise. This time of year it is just so hard to get those walks in outside...another reason why I really wish we had a treadmill but not in the budget at this point.

QOTD - I don't feel like I get enough sleep, with the kids getting older and staying up a little later, it pushes our bedtime a little later because we enjoy sitting up for a while after they go to bed. Most of the time I don't have any problem going to sleep but there are the times when like others have mentioned if I wake up I can't go back to sleep. There are a couple of reasons for that...dh snoring along with the mind thinking about what needs to be done the next day, etc.

I hope everyone has a great day. Getting ready to go pick up some fresh green beans to snap and freeze.

Congrats to maznorm on a stellar week!
I love the halfway stats - thanks for that motivation!

QOTD Tuesday: Disney character for your weight loss journey?
Hmm...I don't know! I haven't really had one in mind, though I've always identified with Ariel the most, in general. Stay on plan until I can look good in a pair of seashells! :rotfl:

QOTD Wednesday: Enough sleep?
Definitely don't get enough sleep, but I've been working on it. I'm a total night owl - always have been. Combine that with a DD that wakes at 6:45 every morning and my desire to always get one more thing done before bed...means 6.5-7 hours for me. I fall asleep easier and earlier with the TV on, but DH can't sleep with it on, so that's another challenge. I read or do crosswords now instead to relax, but usually stay up later doing those. If I could get to sleep another 30 min earlier, I'd get between 7-7.5 hrs every night - that would be good.

Wednesday QOTD: Studies have shown that people who get 7-8 hours of sleep per night lose more weight than those getting less sleep. Do you feel like you get enough sleep? If not, can you start going to bed a little earlier each night until you reach the right amount for you?

I am tired most of the time, but struggle with getting to sleep. I could easily fall asleep at 7pm most nights but by the time the kids get to bed, I've perked up, and don't actually get to sleep until 11 or 12. On weekends, I usually stay up later and sleep in a bit. I need to work on shutting my brain off at bed time.

QOTD: When I am not working overtime I usually get enough sleep. I go to bed around 10:30 and get up around 6:30. I have no problems falling asleep as soon as I make my mind up to. I have also found that by putting on certain movies, I fall asleep a lot faster so I usually try to have one on when I am going to sleep and if I can't get to sleep it's usually because I tried a new movie and was interested in watching it instead of sleeping so I try a different movie.

Later gators!

QOTD I am a lot like Maria. I try to get to bed by 9:30 because the alarm goes off at 4:30 so I can get a workout in before I go to school. If I don't get to bed by 10 or 10:30 at the latest I am no good for the rest of the next day. THe bad part of all of this is that even when I am off for the summer I am still up by 5 in the morning at the latest.
