I am travelling to the Dominican Republic in 2 weeks. My birth certificate is in sad shape. Corners are tattered, almost ripped in 2. But you can read all the numbers and letter.
Will I have a hard time entering the country?

PS its a Canadian certificate- we have paper ones

American Birth Certificate, it IS torn in two and taped back together. I have taken cruises outside the US and it is acceptable. It also is so faded it takes a better eye than mine to read it...

I don't know how things operate in Canada but I got duplicate copies of my, DD's, DS's birth certificates before taking a cruise. Went to our local office of vital records, paid a fee and received them the same day after a short wait. They copy it onto special paper and stamp it with the states seal. Of course we were all born in the same state. DH was able to get a copy of his from Washington State as well.

I am sure as long as it is legible it would be fine, but it might not hurt to investigate to see if you can get an official copy.

Why not just apply for a new one? DH did this when we applied for his K-1 visa. He also has a plastic one he carries in his wallet. I don't know if it would be any good for travel though. If you want I can ask him how he got it, just PM me.

Do you travel much? If you do, getting a passport is a good option.

(Americans have paper ones too) :)

if your sexy it shouldnt be a problem

POP DADDY.... :rotfl: - A little sun burnt at the moment from the tanning beds. Would you call that sexy? :rotfl:

I have gotten so many different answers lately. I am just do the drive into Toronto in AM rush hour. They only allow a few emergency certficates a day. :sad2: So hopefully I will be 1st in line. I just dont want to chance it and get sent back to Canada, while my Ds is sipping beer on the beach.

Thanks for everyones input. :)

Don't you need a passport to enter? Or when does this go on effect? I have no idea where my birth certificate, but I do update my passport by sending the old one and receiving back with the new one including the old one with a punched hole on it. I usually carry my passport and my drivers license with me whenever I fly to anywhere.. You just never know what might happen and end up somewhere else.
