Biggest Misconceptions about WDW

The first time I took my GF (now Wife) to WDW she thought all of EPCOT was in the ball. :rotfl2:

:wave2: I love it when I tell people I am going to WDW for 8 days and they tell me that I can see it all in just a couple of days...they have never been or know nothing about it... :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Since we go a lot, I hear that a lot from other people who don't get it about WDW. I simply point out that if you walk quickly through the Louvre in Paris and don't stop you can see the entire museum and every masterpiece created through the ages in two hours tops. :teeth: I then point out to them that any additional time spent there simply has to be a waste of time because they've already "seen" everything!

This seems to make the point fairly well. My apologies for veering slightly OT early in a promising thread!

My "all knowing" mother told us quite certainly that Cinderella's castle at WDW was just a plywood framing. Of course her wisdome came from never setting foot near WDW and until we went in 2003 I still believed it. When we walked down main street and I saw that it wasn't just a false plywood painted castle my jaw dropped & I started to cry. I don't think that my DH understood why I just wanted to keep looking at it. :)

That you can go to WDW once and not have the urge to go back. :rotfl:

I had 2 friends both go on trips to WDW this year and both said that this was a once in a lifetime trip. They're both planning another trip. One of them in less than a year!

That you should not bring young children because they will not remember it. Our trips are for all of us to spend time together and create memories. Like the look on DDs eyes at the age of 2 when she saw the castle for the first time, she may not remember it but I will never forget it. :cloud9:
I could not agree with you more. My Ds's first time was at 2 1/2. The look on his face was priceless when we entered the Mk and he seen the characters for the 1st time. Now, at 7, things are different. He still enjoys it but its not the same. DD's first trip was at 16 months back in Jan.. Alot of people called us nuts to take her so young. She will see pics of the characters in books, even now, and get soooo excited. These people that wait until their kids are 8, 9 and 10 to take them for the first time are missing out on sooooo much!

We are going this year with my husbands brother's family and they keep saying the same thing. :rotfl: My sister-in-law grew up in southern California and is a Disneyland girl so I'm sure she'll catch the DW bug too! All of our Disneyland trips except the first two have been with her. I do like Disneyland but I'm hoping she'll love DW so I can go with her because my DH say's this is it for him.

That WDW is WAY tooo expensive!!
Wrong! Yes it cost $$$ but what you get its priceless!

I hate when people say it is too expensive. What entertainment is not too expensive! Have they been to Six Flag or a football or basketball game lately? People will gladly spend $75 or much more for a football/basketball game ticket or a concert ticket but complain the WDW tickets cost too much!

Oooooooo, I hate this one too! Especially coming from people who go on other vacations. -- What I mean by that is, I have, for example, one co-worker who rents a beach house every year somewhere and is always going on and on about she doesn't know how I can afford to go to Disney, but has to spend more than I do, between renting jet ski's and going parasailing and renting boats and all the other stuff they do. Another friend loves to go on cruises and she always winds up spending more than I do at Disney. I don't think Disney is anymore expensive than alot of other vacations, I think that it's just you pay more upfront/all at once, than you do on some other trips. But just try to explain/convince some people of that one! :sad2:

Omg! That is hilarious! I got water up my nose while drinking and reading that one! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Great thread btw! :teeth:

That the food is terrible and completely overpriced everywhere at WDW
Up until around 98 the counter service offerings were terrible, but Disney has made great strides in quality and adding more diverse menu offerings. Those old hamburgs were just plain gross and they offered very few condiments.

I have what I think is a good one.....

DisneyWorld is for toddlers and fairies walk around all day. Also, it is just bigger and more expensive but the same as StoryLand in NH!!!! :confused3
My ds12 must not be bothered by kiddie things (per this person).... :rotfl2:

Another few no one has mentioned:

"Disney is only for families with children"

or "Why would two adults going on a romantic trip choose Disney World ?"

And the classic "If you have already visited before, doesn't it get boring ?"

All questions from friends and family when we announced that DH and me would be taking our first kid free romantic vacation in 20 years this summer at WDW :rotfl:

Thea
Leaving in just 2 DAYS.... :Pinkbounc

I have to agree with EVERYONE.

But the one I get the most is that after going there three times(soon to be 4) haven't I seen everything yet?

People really do think that WDW is Magic Kingdom ONLY. Before my DBIL decided to join us in 2002, he thought this too! Well h's been hooked ever since.

The other misconception is that WDW is REALLY $$$$, therefore I am loaded!!! (I wish). Going to te beach is ridiculously expensive for what you get, renting cottages is out of price too. Going to Mexico, Cancun, or Dominican Republic may be a little cheaper but with the water not being really safe, I would rather stay home. I know I've been there, got that bug, came back weighing less than the day I left.

These are good! One misconception that I see here all the time on the boards is that people think by doing the Fantasmic dinner pkg, they will get the best seats at the show. Not true - the pkg only ensures that they will get a seat in the roped off section, which are NOT the best seats in the house, IMO. The pkg deal only means that you trade your time that you would be otherwise standing in line (to get your pick of seats!) for dining in an air-conditioned restaurant.

I too agree about the people complaining about the cost. We live near a r  esort that has a boardwalk. We just went last noc for 5 hours. 2 large pizzas and 3 pitchers of soda was 75$, the rides were 40 tix for 15.00 and all of the good rides were 8 tix a piece. i've always said that Disney is much cleaner, more enjoyable and LESS CROWDED than Ocean City in the summer!!

Ahhhh Ocean City....Thrasher French Fries...YUM!

I grew up (well, until 4th grade) in Glen Burnie MD and we used to go to Ocean City all the time. I must miss it because I dream about it all the time!

We continued going there, but not as often once we moved to Pittsburgh, but I haven't been in 6 or 7 years! :guilty:

I was told that as well by the same person I spoke about in my earlier post....
I was stunned to hear that! I only wish it were true. We are 'jetsetters' in my friends opinion... :rotfl2:

She has no clue.... :confused3

I actually think a lot of the counterservice is pretty good, and it's far less expensive than some of the other non-Disney parks that servce some fairly inedible stuff! Not to mention many of the really great sit-down restaurants.

I just don't get it.....it's like a cult belief and people just nod their heads in agreement. Maybe they're going to WDW in an alternate universe or I just have really easy-to-please food tastes!

Yes, someone said to me...oh, who can affored $15.00 hamburgers. I said..oh, where did they serve them, never had a $15.00 burger in Disney yet.
