Biggest Misconceptions about WDW

Hmm, the biggest misconception I've seen is when people think there is one way to do Disney ("their way"), and that those whose opinions differ are wrong.

But, other than the DW=MK thing, the only actual misconceptions I've run across are people who call Cinderella's Castle Sleeping Beauty's Castle, and vice versa; and the people who insisted that I better get on the phone right now and make my CRT reservations, 4 months out, because it's so hard to get, and didn't believe me when I said you can't make them more than 90 days in advance.

Hmmm...I'm not sure this is a misconception. The truth is, for those of us who get it, I think we understand that letting go and having some of that childlike perspective is what makes it so magical. So maybe it is just for kids but age has nothing to do with it.

ITA...the person that I mentioned in my earlier posts, would never 'let go' and just have fun. There has to be a reason for everything and it must be educational...nothing 'silly'.

This isnt exactly a Disney Misconception but i had to add it here. When I was working near the horse stables at Colonial Williamsburg in VA, I over heard a 10 year old girl (wearing a Disney hat) tell her father " These robots are so more real looking than the ones at Disney World, they even smell real!!!" After swallowing my laughter i had to go over and explain that they were real horses and even let her in the paddock to pet one :rotfl: :wave2:

When people say - I'd get bored of Disney if I went every year like you...

No they wouldn't - they'd learn what it is to have a FUN vacatyion.

That's what i'm screamin about LI Couple- i never get tired of it and people chastise constantly- we go on a couple vacations a year, usually one to an island or cruise or something and once to WDW- it just doesn't get old for me. And as far as some kids are too young for it is a bunch of garbage. My first trip was when i was 9months old and every year after that. It feels like my home and everyone else is just visiting. It's a great feeling.

the biggest misconception I hear from my circle of friends is that Universal is part of Disney World :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I try not to laugh...

That wouldn't happen to be Ocean City would it? We have gone there for vacation the last two years staying at the Holiday Inn Suites Hotel on the boardwalk. 7 Days at WL looks frugal compared to the cost of going to the beach for the summer. I agree about the food cost and rides. For those of you that think the counter service food is expensive at WDW check out the cost at Ocean City.

Having said that OC is a great place to go but still this year Disney here we come!

Sure it's Ocean City MD!!! I 'm glad to know someone else has the same opinion as us!!! We're "locals" grew up here and stayed. We only go into "town" (AS TRUE BORN AND BRED LOCALS REFER TO IT) when family visits. Disney is cheaper, and heck we live here!! :rotfl:

Ahhhh Ocean City....Thrasher French Fries...YUM!

I grew up (well, until 4th grade) in Glen Burnie MD and we used to go to Ocean City all the time. I must miss it because I dream about it all the time!

We continued going there, but not as often once we moved to Pittsburgh, but I haven't been in 6 or 7 years! :guilty:

Dude...you should come back!! Thrashers still rocks. A bit of history, My MIL worked there as a teenager and she said that they never changed the oil all summer. Gross true, but I swear the fries definately tasted better when I was younger, and at the end of summer. Remember the LINES!! With the health codes now, you know thats why they tast different then when we were young!! :smooth:

I know people that think that there hotels are on Mainstreet. I have heard it 2 or 3 times from people and I can't help but laugh. Imagine sleeping above Casey's Corner.

I had to laugh when I read this post!! We went to Ocean City last summer and when we got home, after spending a fortune, I told my DH we could have went to WDW for all we spent on that trip---and then we did!!!! ;)

just going by admission prices to the parks it's about $20 more for Disney compared to the big theme parks within driving distance to me those being Cedar Point and Kings Island and to me the extra $20 is so worth it. I always find it funny that the people in my family who always claim that one visit to WDW is enough are the same people who go to Kennywood for school picinc day, for church picinic day, for Italian day and for fall fantasy all during the same summer.

Thats funny Lori B we also just came back from Myrtle on 7-9 stayed a week and spent way to much, that week was supposed to be our Disney week, since it was our 10 anniversary on the 4th but back when we started saving for it we just didn't think we could save enough but as it turned out we went to the beach and spent it anyway, so we are planning a 2006 trip now but havent decided the dates yet.
DETERMINED TO GET TO DISNEY :cool1:

This post is like a trip down memory lane....People mentioning Ocean City, MD and Thrasher's fries and then Kennywood Park.... It feels like reliving my childhood - and how many of you are from MD/PA? Seems like a lot.

On that note, I love WDW. One of the biggest misconceptions I come across is that WDW can't be enjoyed solo! I know many on this board might agree or not understand how someone could go to WDW by themself. I get some of the strangest looks when I tell people I'm going by myself. But honestly, how can you not have fun at Disney World, alone or otherwise? I love my solo trips to WDW and look forward to feeling the magic again this year!

I am not too sure if this counts, but the first time we went to WDW with a friend and her three boys, we got off the airplane, and we were walking through the airport terminal, the oldest boy (he was 9 at the time) said
"this is it?"
I said "what?"
he said "we are in WDW?"
"well no we are in Orlando, why?"
"it looks so normal" (him)
(me) "were you expecting to be in WDW as soon as we got off the plane?"
(him) "yes"

It was too cute he thought we would be in WDW as soon as we stepped off the plane. They didn't know that there as actually a "real" city that WDW sits in! LOL

I could see really enjoying Disney by myself. It would be different. I think I'd like it more for the people watching experience than anything else. I've never been a fan of riding rides by myself though. It probably wouldn't be my first choice, but by no means would I turn the opportunity down!!

I have what I think is a good one.....

DisneyWorld is for toddlers and fairies walk around all day. Also, it is just bigger and more expensive but the same as StoryLand in NH!!!! :confused3
My ds12 must not be bothered by kiddie things (per this person).... :rotfl2:
:rotfl: The same as Storyland?! Yeah, there are some common factors, but I can think of some major differences having practically grown up at Storyland (some people take pics of the kids growing by where they are at the growth chart...my "growth chart" was the yearly pic in the doorway to the Old Womans shoe)
But then again one of my friends used to think it was just a bigger version of the local country fair (sorry no hick accents making announcements about missing children, or watching cattle pulls at WDW)
The other common one, that's already been mentioned is the food: prices and quality. The sit down restaurants are no more expensive than any other good quality restaraunt. And those bottles of water that are so expensive? You pay $1 more, for several ounces less at our local amusement park.

I lived in MD (Glen Burnie) until 4th grade, then moved to PA (West Mifflin) through high school! Now in East Tennessee and only go back up North :cold: to visit!! Go to used to the :sunny: here and can't handle that weather!! :rotfl:

I can't believe how many people on here know all my old stomping grounds!! VERY COOL! :Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc

Yesterday, my friend said she went to WDW in April and got an ANNUAL PASS FOR ONLY ONE DISNEY PARK for $99. Now I knew that's not possible because Disney doesn't sell those and she could have thought that she was in a Disney park when she was probably at Universal Studios or Seaworld or something. So I called Disney (in her presence) and asked them if they offered that pass. Of course, they said no. Shucks, my AP cost me $400 last year and if Disney sold AP's for $99, I would have been on it like a hornet.

How weird is that...I lived in MD (Bel Air) through 8th grade, then moved to PA (Bethel Park) through high school. Now I live in Las Vegas, NV - came here for the sun because it was way too cold up north.... so I only visit now too! Way cool! Here's to MD/PA ers... :cool1:

I HATE HATE HATE when people complain about WDW prices. Food inparticular.

A few weeks ago, we took our 3 kids, and my dd's friend to a little place called Edaville Railroad. It is basically a nice train ride around a cranberry bog. it is popular in the winter, because it had MILLIONS of Christmas lights, and scenery you see on the train. For the summer months, they have little amusment rides and they have an outdoor BBQ pit where you can get chicken, ect. They have a regular lunch place also.

My gripe....it cost me $65 for the 6 of us to eat lunch. :earseek: I got mad, because all the complaints I have heard about Disney, and it would NEVER cost us $65 to eat at a counter service inside WDW.

I was also mad, because I feel Disney has a right to charge what they do for food. Plus, Disney allows you to bring food in from outside, so you are not trapped to have to spend money on food. I am not sure if you can bring a picnic into Edaville, but where do they get off charging $3.50 for a hot dog??? That comes with NOTHING? You have to pay another $3.75 if you want fries. No kids meals either. OK, I am starting to get mad again...LOL

After going to a movie matinee the other day with my son, I will never complain about WDW prices again! It was $27.50 for the two of us to see (a half-price) movie and get an order of nachos, a medium coke, and a "kid's combo" (kid's size drink, popcorn, and skittles)!
