Biggest Misconceptions about WDW

I HATE HATE HATE when people complain about WDW prices. Food inparticular.

A few weeks ago, we took our 3 kids, and my dd's friend to a little place called Edaville Railroad. It is basically a nice train ride around a cranberry bog. it is popular in the winter, because it had MILLIONS of Christmas lights, and scenery you see on the train. For the summer months,they have little amusment rides and they have an outdoor BBQ pit where you can get chicken, ect. They have a regular lunch place also.

My gripe....it cost me $65 for the 6 of us to eat lunch. I got mad, because all the complaints I have heard about Disney, and it would NEVER cost us $65 to eat at a counter service inside WDW.

I was also mad, because I feel Disney has a right to charge what they do for food. Plus, Disney allows you to bring food in from outside, so you are not trapped to have to spend money on food. I am not sure if you can bring a picnic into Edaville, but where do they get off charging $3.50 for a hot dog??? That comes with NOTHING? You have to pay another $3.75 if you want fries. No kids meals either. OK, I am starting to get mad again...LOL

Exactly! It is a HUGE misconception that Disney doesn't allow outside food, or that the Security Guards will confiscate it!

How weird is that...I lived in MD (Bel Air) through 8th grade, then moved to PA (Bethel Park) through high school. Now I live in Las Vegas, NV - came here for the sun because it was way too cold up north.... so I only visit now too! Way cool! Here's to MD/PA ers...

I'm a MD/PA person too. Grew up in PA and now live in MD outside of DC! I also spent 4 years in FL, and now hoping to make it back to the warmer weather farther south eventually.

Yes DW and I bring water and small sandwiches into the park with us, I like to have PB&J sandwiches and candybars, so we can eat them around 11:00, so we can do stuff during the lunchtime rush and eat later when everyone else goes back to the rides. Doesn't always work out this way though.

Yesterday, my friend said she went to WDW in April and got an ANNUAL PASS FOR ONLY ONE DISNEY PARK for $99. Now I knew that's not possible because Disney doesn't sell those and she could have thought that she was in a Disney park when she was probably at Universal Studios or Seaworld or something. So I called Disney (in her presence) and asked them if they offered that pass. Of course, they said no. Shucks, my AP cost me $400 last year and if Disney sold AP's for $99, I would have been on it like a hornet.

It looks like you can get a PI AP for about $99 with the tax but I wouldn't call PI a park.

To me the biggest misconception is that WDW is an amusement park, when it isn't! It's much more ... magical, coming home, you know.

One defense of people that think this way is that for many families they will make only one or two trips to WDW with thier children. If you are only going to go once wouldn't you rather do it when the kids were a bit older and could do and enjoy it more?

I know its inconcievable to some people here at DIS but there are people that WDW is a once in a lifetime trip.

I agree ( & was thinking the same thing) i remember reading many times on these boards about some who saved a long time to go once and naturally want the kids to remember it. a small child might enjoy being there but i know some 6 yr olds who went about 3 yrs ago and do not remember a thing about it. if it was a one time thing i'd want my kids older too.

however...I recently saw a travel show that had different 3 travel agents plan for a family go to disney. each one only planned on 1 park, acted like it was the complex, spend i think around 400 a person for 2 days . they ended up going to epcot for 1/2 a day, spent the rest at the PO pool and blizzard beach and Cirque..shows like that obviously add to confusion about what WDW really is

My wife and I went on our honeymoon this past june. I had no Idea what to expect. I really was excited but I thought we would do this once and that would be it. Well we have a long weekend and are driving down from alabama to orlando for a 3 day stay in the world for the MNSSHP. Who would have thought that I would become a junkie? I think what is making this all that much more fun is that it is spur of the moment and we are going together with my Grandmother who has never been to the world. She did go to DL when it was newer.

Misconception: You have to live in Florida to have and get the best use out of an annual pass to WDW! I've had people say that, like you don't even live there, why would you have an annual pass.

An annual pass just happens to be the best choice of tickets for our family, and I like knowing I can go anytime I want!
