Biggest Loser 2009 - Couples 2

ooooh i cant stand the product placement either! mostly because it just seems so condesending. like duh we don't know it's a commercial. i also woul like more nutrition/fitness tipss. but i guess that's how BL makes their money by getting you to buy all the extras!:lmao:

They're all pretty bad. Biggest Loser, Top Model, John & Kate, even the Duggars "sneak" product placements in frequently. By "sneak" I of course mean hold the product to the camera and say what it does and how great it is that it does it.

KAREBEAR!!!!!!!! Eeyore's Butterfly!!!!!!
Sorry, I get excited easy. HOW in the sam hill are you????

Dr. H needs a bit more exposure. Only on the first and last episode is kinda lame. We need more medical tid bits, I'm thinking. And more specific diet/nutrition info. Obviously to pull those big numbers, the diet is LOW calorie and they are working out 6 hours a day (which is what the book says :scared: )

Oh, were you'ins at all bugged by the constant "product placement" and blatant infomercials? :headache: Like the PRIZE of getting to have a banana split with Bob which ended up being a Jello brand pudding with Cool Whip brand whipped cream. Just a bit over the top. If you didn't notice, you're welcome for bringing it to your attention so it can bug the crap out of you next time :rolleyes1

MAMA!!! I'm doing pretty good! I've missed you over on the boutique thread, but so happy I found you here!!!

I wanna get me one of those 'bodybug' things they wear on their arms.

.... I thought LAST season when the contestants went to meet him he told them he was once also a contestant on BL???

So I decided to google him and NOPE, no where does it say he was a contestant!!!

SORRY!!! :guilty:

Okay, just so you don't think you are losing your mind.... There was a female doctor WITH him in an episode - just last season I think - and the FEMALE doctor was a former contestant! I'll try to find a link somewhere....

It was not Dr H the main doctor on the show. I remember an episode with women speaking with a woman doctor that was a former contestant. They were discussing fertility issues of the overweight. I did some googling and finally found it here.

I love stories of successful losers. I hope to be one someday and then my mission will be to help others to achieve success also.

And I hate burberry plaid..not the user. Just the acutual burberry.;)

Thank goodness! At first I was like, dude, I just met you..you can't hate me yet! :rotfl:

And yes, my name is inspired by my love of the Burberry plaid print. I had a pocket book at one time and I have an umbrella. My true passion though are the cute Burberry baby clothes, diaper bags, and the Burberry stroller. Once I get down to a healthy weight and I'm able to maintain it for a while, I hope to start a family and when I do our little tot will most certainly have some Burberry things, even if I have to buy them cheaply on E-bay. :)

And just so my post isn't totally irrelevant, I will say I am another person who isn't crazy about the product placement. There are a few things I don't mind, like the steam bags and those bgs with the pump that you can use to freeze things for a while. I probably wouldn't have found out about them if it weren't for the show, but I could do without the gum and jell-o. We're not the only ones who dislike it either. Jillian has mentioned on her radio show before that she really hates the product placement and some of the trainer tips. She's refused to do a few of them.

We still tease in my house....time to take a drink (pop of course!!)it's another "ad":lmao:

Eeyores Butterfly Sorry to hear about your diabetes diagnose  Those pedals sound great! I really need to have something to burn calories as I sit at the computer. :surfweb: I couldn't possibly leave it and go exercise. :lmao:

Hi cutenesses! Soooo glad to have stumbled upon this thread!

I've sampled too many home baked treats this last week and need a DO OVER!
I'm sort of marginally on-track. :rolleyes1

Wendy! Ok, well I have decided that with Christmas :santa: on our doorstep, I am going to try to be careful BUT if something looks incredibly tempting (and I so know it will) over the holidays, I am indeed indulging BUT with that being said...JANUARY 6th when this show starts will be my "back to diet & exercise" start date as well! ::yes::

Heck, people, we are all human and there are set times in our lives that we cannot always be on track, you know!

I like the idea of working otu while watching the show. I may ask my parents for a Stride Cycle for Christmas. It's a $20 set of pedals that you can use anywhere. Sort of like an exercise bike without the seat. I think it will be good because I can do it while I am on the computer or on the TV, and it can be an arm or a leg workout.

I'm trying to use this show to help inspire me to get things under control for myself. I would love to be on the show, but I am nowhere near heavy enough. I have about 25-30lbs to lose to be at a healthy weight for my height and age. I want to lose 50 and get back down to what I used to be, but I don't know if that's a reasonable goal for me anymore.

I was diagnosed with diabetes this semester and that has been really hard. I am a complete carb addict and now I have to really limit the amount of carbs I eat. That has been the most difficult. I had great results with Weight Watchers when I was following hte program, and even then I was eating lots of pasta, bread, etc. My doctor is threatening me with medication for both diabetes and cholesterol and I'm only 24! My cholesterol isn't even that high for a non-diabetic, it's considered safe, but they want people with diabetes to maintain a lower level. Hopefully this show will help me keep my motivation high so I can avoid all that.

EB, that Stride Cycle does sound awesome!!!! :thumbsup2 Oh and me and carbs, well we have a love hate relationship!!! I just bought this book at Borders = "Dr. Akins Carb Gram Counter"!!! :thumbsup2

HAve you ghuys seen that they are selling the music mix the contestants walk/run to?? It has the pace timing etc on it! I LOVE THIS!! GO here:

http://thebiggestloser.workoutmusic.com/

I think I see some purchases in my near future!

Wow, karebear, thanks for posting!!!! :surfweb:

Eeyore'sButterfly--I'm with you. I LOVE bread and pasta which is why when I tried to do Atkin's I failed miserably. I love my carbs. :rotfl2: I also have an addiction to processed food, which I know is bad bad BAD for me.:guilty: But it's so fast and easy..it's hard to break the habit. I joined The 50 Million Pound Challenge and my ultimate goal is to be 20 lbs lighter by the time we go see The Imagination Movers in March.

I do work out while I'm watching TV...Wii Fit has 'free' run and 'free' step so you can still run/walk or do your step aerobics while watching TV and I find that is a great distraction. I forget that I'm exercising. Also..if you have TiVo and it's connected to your wireless internet, you can download some workouts for free, which is a great way to introduce variety into your workout routine. :)

Join the "carb" crowd, sdarwkcabemanmy, WHY does everything have to have carbs in it????

Wow, karebear, thanks for posting!!!! :surfweb:

You're welcome! I was really excited to find that! A few years ago when I was training to do the Half at WDW, I searched and searched for metered music- it was soooo hard to find. I listened to a lot of this and I think I'll have a good time walking/running to it. Ohhhhhhhh- I REALLY want to get to running this time around!

Because they're so goshdarn tasty?:rotfl2: I know that my favorite meal would probably make Bob and Jillian just CHOKE because there are a ton of calories in it--chicken fried steak w/REAL sawmill (cream) gravy, mashed taters and fried okra. If they told me I could no longer eat that, I would have to :faint: because I LOVES me some chicken fried steak. Omnomnom.

Bump!

Sorry, I was LURED here by the words "Saw mill gravy" (nom nom nom!)
That is my flavorite...chicken fried anything with that white gravy. Ohhhh myyyy!

Sawmill anything just makes me think of that movie classic..... Texas Chainsaw Massacre.... maybe if you think of that next time you won't salivate so much!! :rotfl: :rotfl: You must resist at all costs MAMA!!!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

:santa: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!:santa:

We were watching tv last night and DH, DS#2 and I all saw the ad's for the NEW BL season....which made us in turn discuss ourselves....Jan 5, 2009 everyone in this house will be dieting and exercising. Our DS#1 is getting married in June....that is our goal. ::yes::

P.S. Wendy, thanks for the BUMP!!!! :thumbsup2

I'm starting the day after tomorrow! I'm getting a jump start on those Biggest Loser people.... it's my only chance!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'm so happy with the way things turned out last night - and looking forward to the new season....maybe some of it will sink in to my head!

As far as Jillian always having the winning team? I think Bob focuses on nutrition and exercise -- and Jillian includes the emotional aspect of it. And, let's face it --when I figure out 'why' I eat -- I won't weigh what I weigh.

Thanks for starting the new thread!

I'm not certain if I am going to watch the new season in January or not. This fall was the 1st time I ever watched Biggest Loser. My motivation was my own weight loss journey since last spring/summer. I was REALLY turned off by the "game playing" aspect of the show. I am also working with a personal trainer who is NOTHING like either Bob or Jillian. The first time someone yelled at or belittled me in any way, I would be so out of there.

I am really concerned about what I am hearing about the amount of weight the new contestants are carrying. I just can't imagine a 450 pound person exercising for 5 hours a day. And I fear that NBC will put "the show" infront of someone's health. The consolation is that the show has already been filmed so what ever has happened has already happened! But I also worry about the message that the show is sending out to morbidly obese people about the "safe" way to lose weight permanently.

Lastly, I absolutely CANNOT watch the show live. Within two weeks I was taping it and watching it later so that I could fast forward through all of the "repeated" parts. I did watch the finale show live, however, and loved all of the "goofs."

Donna
This year was AWFUL for game playing. Just terrible. It's never been that bad before! I couldn't stand half the people it felt like. I wanted to cry when Amy didn't vote Vicky off when she had the chance. I have never disliked so many people so strongly that I have never even met before. :rotfl:

I wonder about the pace of the weightloss also, but figure they have time at home when they lose weight more slowly. STill though, I don't know how you would do it with a normal life, nor if you should. I think the majority of people realize that something like that can't happen at home.

We always pause for at least half an hour at the begining and then skip the repeats and yet we often still catch up before the end! DD has something on TUesday nights now so we'll just record the whole deal and watch the next day.
and don't forget Subway, those green water bottles, and gum (which btw, the watermelon was nasty)

It's because everyone tivo's the darn thing to skip all hte repeats and draaawwwwnnn out drama! :rotfl:

I never found the thread for last season and I was in withdrawal as I loved the season 5 thread. So I will be here for this one!

I really believe that Jillian and Bob care about these contestants as people. I am pretty sure I caught a glimpse of Jillian crying when Michelle won. I would totally want her as a trainer as she does deal with the WHY of being obese. It's not just about the food or just about not excercising. There is a whole package there. Remember last year when Bob's guy team was like "oh we don't need to talk, blah blah blah...." but who lost more?

I was dying at the way Bob was yelling during the preview. My kdis and I were commenting that if it were Jillian, no one would bat an eye, but BOB??? I can't wait to see what brings that on!

I think it's really going to get to Bob because these are the biggest contestants they've ever had and if they aren't giving their all, or Bob doesn't think they are, he's going to lose it. The stakes seem higher than ever.

Merry Christmas everyone! :santa:

UTAHMAMA: It's great to see you here too! I guess we're stalking eachother, lol.

I thought I heard somewhere that Bob used to be overweight at one point? If that's true, I would think that it would give him a more personal connection with the players, but it seems to be Jillian who gets more personal.

As to rate of weight loss: A healthy rate of weight loss .5-2lbs average a week. Anything more than that is considered very dangerous if not done under medical supervision. I wish they would show more of the medical supervision that is done, because people need to realize that doing this on their own can have some horrible consequences.

The on gripe I have about this show is that I think it presents a very unrealistic picture of weight loss. I can't count the number of people who come on the Weight Watchers boards and are devastated that they *only* lost two pounds that week. In reality, that is a great weight loss for a week, but between the Biggest Loser and those stupid diet drugs that promise 20 lbs in two weeks, people no longer know what is a safe and reasonable rate of weight loss. I strongly suspect that this is one reason Americans have such a hard time losing weight. They have these very unrealistic expectations that go unmet, and they give up because they are discouraged.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

It was Jillian who struggled with her weight growing up. And, because of that, she understands the emotional battle. Diet and exercise alone will not provide lasting results. You have to get to the core issues.
