Best time for best rate week b/f Christmas

When is the best time to get the best rate for a flight the week before Christmas '07 (Dec 16 - Dec 21)???
Probably flying Continental from Houston.

Great question. I just booked my room for 12/19-12/24 and was curious about the cost of airfare from PHL.

I think I booked mine in Feb for Christmas. But a lot has to do with the airline and routes. Are your airlines in direct competition with a low cost carrier like Jet Blue or SWA? If so, you can usually find a sale around their windows that they open flights. I wuse www.itasoftware.com or www.sidestep.com to help look for various dated and airlines

I also just booked for leaving 12/18/07. I keep hearing about jet blue less than 100.00 each way, but nothing on their website is giving me anything like that. I can fly from either philly or newark. what if i book and something better comes out? any advise? i have flown 2 times before, and both were for our Cali Disney trips. I keep seeing rates all around 360.00 per person. I am so lost when it comes to air travel.

I plan to wait for Southwest. I usually get the best fare from them out of PHL.

We are also booked dec 16 - dec 23, And I hate to wait , Last year we went at the same time. I booked early and I was glad I did, because all year I watched the prices go up. So I don't know what to do this year. I hate to wait.
