Before you rent from Gold Mobility

This post has made me decide to try someone else on my next trip. I looked into Buena Vista scooters and Walker, but their drop-off times were very inconvenient, so in the end I decided to try Park Hopper Choppers. I think someone on here recommended them, and the people on the Disney for Seniors Facebook group raved about them. I'll let you know how they work out!

When's your trip? I'm intrigued and looking forward to your review!

This thread scared me after renting from Gold Mobility many times. I almost went with another company and even priced out ScooterBug, but I stuck with Gold.

I’m so glad I did! It went flawless. They delivered to the Dolphin for me and I picked up the key to the scooter from Bell Services. Easy peasy. The unit was fine mechanically but maybe a little more worn than usual. I had read that the new owner was not cycling out the scooters as often as the previous owners, so I wasn’t surprised. Pick up from Fort Wilderness was fine too. The staff had to fight marathon weekend traffic to get to me and they were very apologetic for being a little late.

I don’t question that @Debbie Jean had a bad experience, but I just wanted to weigh in with my own positive one.

We used Gold a few years ago and I would give them a 7/10. They did not initially give me the scooter I wanted (brought a 4 wheel instead of the 3 wheel I asked for) and then when I asked to switch mid trip, the new one was older and lost battery power much more quickly. I was never stranded but it was stressful! They were very responsive but still...we want to try a different co.

After reading some of the reviews here, we decided to try ScooterBug. Not having to set up drop-off/pick-up times was very attractive to my husband! Yes, there have been negative reviews but it seems there are negative reviews for every company and not too many really current ones. Our days are 1/23 to 1/31 so I'll report back in early February.

Thank you for this. We like Gold and plan to stick with them.
Edited to add- We also understand sometimes things happen and experiences can vary.

Please do come back and let us know things go with scooter bug. Good luck and have a great trip!

We were shopping for an ECV rental today. Gold Mobility had our loyalty for many years. I have no complaints about their service but the pricing has gone bonkers. We’ve used Cloud of Goods three times in the past few years. The pricing is much better, and they have had the most convenient dropoff/pickup times. The trade off is the scooter condition slightly more used, but we’ve not had any issues using them.

The newest game changer: Cloud of goods also offers a ramp rental!

I can get the scooter AND a ramp for less than just the scooter thru Gold or Buena Vista. I put some stuff in my cart and procrastinated, and they sent me a 15% off text.

This may be a big deal for anyone renting an ECV to use with a vehicle. Ive seen many posts asking about ECV rental offsite and how to make that work, and up to now the solutions were not great. We stay onsite but DH loves to drive over using Disney buses. It has been a real pain loading/unloading ECV out of an SUV. I will report back after using the ramp for our April trip.

I ran a quote to see pricing and found it quite favorable. Closed out the window and 15 minutes later they texted a discount code! Really brought the cost down. The drop off/pick up hours are also a real plus. Definitely keeping it on my list. Interested to see your review!

I really hope Cloud of Goods works ok for you. We used them a few years ago at Disneyland and they were absolutely terrible. Here is the review I wrote at the time. I would never consider them again. I believe my mom also told Bell Services that instead of retuning it that they should take it out to the dumpster and throw it out. It was very bad.

I am local to Disneyland and honestly have not found any that are as great as Gold!

But, I have used Deckert Surgical several times for wheelchair rentals and they are very nice and always delivered quality wheelchairs.

We tried Cloud of Goods for a scooter once at Disneyland and it was a disaster. I refer to that scooter as a "Frankenscooter" as it looked like it had pieces from several different types of scooters all mashed together to create one. It held zero charge and we had concerns about getting back to the room more than once with it. When I contacted them about a replacement, they were unhelpful and would not (or could not) get another one to us, so we had to make do with the terrible one.

I see a lot in the parks such as Anaheim Scooters, Select Scooter Rentals, and One Stop Mobility. We have not tried them, but if we were to do a scooter, we would try one of those. We bought a wheelchair instead though, so no need for one at Disneyland. Like WDW, Scooterbug is the only one allowed to drop off at the Disneyland resorts. I think some of the ones I mentioned above are along Harbor, so you could grab from there and then scoot over to the park.

So here is my review of ScooterBug - honestly, a 10/10!

The 3-wheel Resort ECV was actually at the resort (POFQ) when I went to pick it up. The email said it would be there at 1:10pm. I went to Bell Services to get it at around 3:00 and it was ready.

It was not new - the stickers were a little worn. The website says the brand was Golden Technologies and the logo on the back of the scooter showed that it was.

I did not use it constantly - I would often park it, do stuff in that area, then move on. I averaged 7,000 steps a day and my family 20,000+, so it did save me many, many steps. And my daughter who is 7m pregnant used it a lot when she was feeling beat. So, it did get a lot of use, especially around the World Showcase!!

I mention the use because the battery indicator never showed less than 3 full green bars. It was like magic - no matter how much we rode it, the battery stayed full. We even called SB to see if we should still charge it over night as we did not want to overcharge the battery. They said to charge it no matter what the indicator showed, so we did.

It was not as "nice" as the one I rented from Gold in 2022 - no cupholder (though you can buy one), no charging thing or holder for my phone. I could have rented the one with those perks, but I was looking to save a little. I bought my own raincover for the tiller from Amazon and I also got the damage waiver.

It's a good thing I did because we actually did damage it! This model (maybe all ECVs?) had four little wheels under the frame. They don't hit the ground, but I guess they are there for balance? Anyway, on Thursday (1/29) evening (we got it Friday 1/23, so on the 7th day?) we noticed that the right front little wheel was missing. While I was careful, I did bump it a few times! We called then the next morning and they offered to swap it...but it was our last park day and I didn't want to waste the time. They said that it was up to me, so I just used it that day and had no trouble.

They asked that we return it to Bell services by 8:00 am on Sat so we dropped it off at around 7. We did not hear from them about the damage so we called them this morning and they confirmed that it was covered by the waiver.

All in all, a very positive experience! Let me know if you have any questions.

We used D and R mobility during our DL trip.

I’ve only tried Cloud of Goods in Orlando. I don’t know much about how that whole service is run except that 3rd party subcontractors supply, and Cloud of Goods is the platform. In that way it is kind of like uber or airbnb.

So far we’ve had good luck with who we’ve been matched with. This will be our 4th time. It’s not always easy escalating issues through these types of businesses, but they do have a page outlining remedies if the need arises:
