Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Good morning Lean Meaners!

Hoping your Monday is a great one.

3 miles yesterday, in between the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500, and the Coca Cola 600.

Beth – WTG with the 4 miler. Good luck with your goals.

Mike – Sorry about the swim.

Lisa – We’ll just look for two kids running and screaming, an aggravated dad, and a bewildered mom. Wait a minute, isn’t that a good portion of the families? hehehe

Cindy – Good luck with the training and goals.

:)

Walked 9 hilly holes (about 2 miles) carrying clubs....gotta be worth something!

Good evening Lean Meaners! After a long weekend of nothing exciting (see below), I'm treating myself to some "you" time (which is really me time but focused on the pleasure I get catching up with you).

Amy: Oh, it definitely sounds like you're getting strength training in; I hope it didn't sound like I was challenging your schedule. I just ask follow-up questions (when I graded papers, I used to use the abbreviation F-U ?s in the margins and ALWAYS needed to explain what i meant) so that I get a sense of what might work for me, at some point in the distant future. :rolleyes1 You're just big resources for me.

And I definitely think you have the right attitude. Gotta find the love in all this, so it doesn't surprise me that you're embracing the Pilates, working on staying injury-free, and setting yourself free. Best of all, you're open to the fickleness, which really means that you're all about the pleasure of it all. You hedonist you!

Lisa: Ah, one of my mantras, the 10% rule. Now, if only I was better at math...:lmao: I have to tell you, DOOD is going to use the RW plan while he's in D.C. next month--he thinks it's a great way to keep a strong base. I'm with the idea of the plan and would like to get there, all the way up until it suggests that transition to a marathon. I'm not sure I could do it that quickly. But I really like the idea of being able to pick up on a race with short notice, and I look forward to hearing how it works for you after you have a chance to work with it. I loved your description of your flexibility in your non-corporate life. Envy your ability to run in the rain, but loved the attitude.

Thanks for the link to Skin Deep; I'd had my eyes opened to some of the practices of Neutrogena a while back, so I'm happy to have this site to check things out. And your weekend sounded wonderful. Not just the biking, but the whole getting the household ready for summer aspect. Is your garden planted?

Dave: Pudge plurging. Hah! A combo between purging and splurging??? If I didn't know better, I'd say you're undecided on which approach to take. ;)

Mike: I owe you an iPod list...I'll put it in another post. I see we have some overlap. Very cool. Oh, and I saw Midnight Oil and Eminem in performances, back when I was younger and cooler. You've been having some great WOs, sorry that the swim seemed like such a stonker.

Connie: I can imagine you and your grandkids looking all fashionable in the lime green. WISH lime green, it's the fad that will sweep the nation. (Much easier than Kermit's green.) About the "some things are better done alone," without one's partner. Care to elaborate all the dirty details? ;) Congrats on your 5 mile PR in the wind; those kinds of walking conditions would terrify me. And your plan sounds great--I'm a big fan of the bike for XT.

Vic: Don't you just love how my dietary goals involve more protein and fat? :rolleyes1 Just note I said good fat...as I'm getting plenty of the other kind. So, how did the estimates for the kitchen remodel go? Are you going to get a chef's dream kitchen, all the better for your fueling needs?

And good to see you squeeze your running in between the important things, like the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500, and the Coca Cola 600. Gotta have priorities. I'll be watching the Penguins tonight, and doing crunches in between plays. Not because I like the Penguins, mind you, but it's all anybody's talking about here. I just have to remain in the loop you know.

Cindy: Wow, I had no idea of the WW points for things. It seems like you don't get a lot of points based on that--I'd be starving! You're right that you seem to consume a lot of your point early in the day, so I can see how dinner is a problem. I wish I had any brilliant advice, but you seem to understand what's going on. And what you're eating seems good--love my dairy products and fruit. The only think I might suggest is continue trying to get your veggies in. I assume you don't like salad, or you could mix in your proteins with a salad. Celery and peanut butter? Carrot sticks and hummus?
Hmmm....apparently my solution to everything is to add more protein and fat (and fiber). Btw, that seems like a lot of miles to add for so few points! I admire you for getting those miles in!! :thumbsup2 And your WO plans sounds solid--I need to check out Jillian's DVDs, as she cracks me up on BL. (And yes, I'm driven by personality when it comes to my DVD instructors.)
I'm sure with such solid goals you can PR your 5K. And I love your other goals, too; you're a great mom!

Beth: Did you say cake? And chocolate chips. Sounds delish, so I'm glad I stayed away from you this weekend. And BIT thumbs up for staying away from the cake, cookies, and chips. Huge victory! And I really know what you mean by the effort expended doesn't always meet the weight lost. It's frustrating. Does it help if I read your post and say, :yay: Beth lost 2 pounds and ate really healthily?

Oh, and thanks for the wagon tip. I absolutely adore the turn of phrase, "well-balanced sports diet."

As for me: There was no party for me this weekend, just a lot of things that needed to be done. And maybe a little Debra and DOOD time, because there's really not going to be any of that next weekend or during June. The weekend went something like this:

WO, stretch, shower, pack, pack, pack. Get frustrated because it's a holiday weekend, so plan a picnic from leftovers in the fridge. Good news, because that means minimal junk food. Bike to park, realize you easily made the same hill you weren't able to bike up without stopping just this past fall. :woohoo: Celebrate by eating lunch, then visit Phipps Conservatory for the Chocolate exhibit (plants, not food). Bike back, and then pack, pack, pack. Watch the first Indy Jones movie on DVD, watch DOOD eat his key lime pie, and then hit the sack.

Wake up, more WO and packing. Go shopping and do misc. errands, then make spaghetti sauce and pack while it simmers. Convince DOOD to see new Indy Jones movie. Laugh a little, then go home, watch DOOD eat his key lime pie, and read some of library books on running and nutrition. Go to sleep, fitfully.

Wake up and WO again. Attempt the first run to try to reset pace--sweat and swear a lot--then go back home. What to do? You guessed it, pack some more. Take another bike ride before coming home and starting dinner. Do some DISing while it bakes and DOOD eats a pre-dinner slice of key lime pie.

Yeah, it's an exciting life I live. Notice the theme of packing in there?

My tip for the day? If you live in a dessert-loving household, as I do, try to occasionally pick desserts that you don't really like. You might get kind of cranky when people are eating desserts and you aren't (I'm looking at you, DOOD! :headache: ), but there's very little temptation involved. Plus you don't feel guilty for saying, "If you want key lime pie you can either make it or buy it."

Good morning Lean Meaners. Gosh, I missed everyone yesterday. Take a day of DISing and it feels like having to give up food!!!

Beth: Yay for you and your willpower. And did you save me some frosting? DS6 and I made whole wheat blueberry muffins, does that count? I have an awesome recipe if anyone wants it. Also, love the tip and yes, when I don't eat breakfast, my entire day breaks down into dark chocolate chips, oh okay, more dark chocolate chips, well maybe some more dark chocolate chips....someone help.....:hyper:

Vic: How goes the estimates? Kitchen remodels scare me. I will do any other room but the whole cabinet replacement, counter top, etcetera is frightening to me. And no, not the bewildered mom, I look more like this when I am in WDW...:hyper: :bitelip: :hyper: and DH looks like this...

Amy: I hope you found some love for the run this weekend. I had a bad one on Sunday but redeemed myself yesterday. I have loving days and days of having to talk to myself like a crazy woman running around town. My town is small so you can imagine what everyone thinks of me. ::yes:: And I am okay with that.

Mike: I am with Beth, bad swim for me would be every one and well, drowning would put me out of my misery. Keep up the good work, you motivate me beyond reason.

Connie: Sharing the love with the lime. Only the best for the grandbabies!!!

Cindy: I could not operate on a points system. I have a hard enough time figuring out my BMR and staying within the calorie range. I have the opposite problem though, I do well breakfast, morning snack and lunch and then after my run (I have to run after work at 12:30 my time daily) my day deteriorates into hunger driven calorie consuming monsterness. Once I start eating, I cannot stop until I decide to cook dinner and then I go :headache: what were you thinking????? I need to incorporate more post-run protein in to fill the void I think. Mike, what do you think???

Dave:  How was your weekend. Did you like Indy? How is Princess Erica doing?

Debra: Packing, packing, packing. I try to keep my home in the minimalist range in case I ever have to move but the kidlets have destroyed all that mojo. It would take me years to pack and move so I admire that you even have the courage. YAY for biking up a hill you could not before, okay, DOUBLE YAY. :yay: :yay: I was caught laughing at myself by DH back in March when I was running my 5.5 mile loop because last year it was hard and this year, no big....well...until Sunday anyway. I also agree with the keep desserts that you do not like in the house. Either that or I try to make them way healthier than they were to begin with. Strawberry shortcake on whole wheat biscuits. Life is good....

Bill, Stacie, Tracey and Maria: I hope your weekend was just wonderfully terrificly awesome!!!

From the Great North Woods, I did get to bike on Saturday, run on Sunday and run yesterday too. The bike was good and the run on Monday was great (3.58 miles in 35:50) but Sunday was not so much. Don't you hate taking off for a run and figuring out that your shoes are past their mileage allotment?? :furious: So yeah, my knee hurt and my foot hurt but I kept plugging. Talking to myself, one more mile, one more mile and then you are half way, etcetera. I just felt "heavy" and very much not motivated. I lost my love much like Amy. But I have not run 5 miles in a long time and I needed to get this out of the way so I kept going. I averaged almost 11 minute miles which kind of stunk but I am building my base back up so it is also to be expected. Today is 4 miles with a tempo run and I am hoping against all hope that the rain predicted for today does not start promptly at 12:30 although with my luck, it surely will.

On the very upbeat side though, 5 months from today, it will be my 42nd birthday, I will be in the world (although it will be our last day) with my friends and family. Oh and by then, DS6 and I will look like this...:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: , DD13 will look like this...:bitelip: and DH will look like this... :faint: Your chuckle for the day. Have a good one Lean Meaners and lets all stay within our boundaries today. For most of us that means eating....Dave, Bill and Vic, well you know where your boundaries are....:crowded:

Hi from the long lost...

I've just been reading the last few pages of posts to see what's been happening with all of you.

For me, it's almost time for the quarterly "threaten you with diabetes" doctor's visit, so I've been doing pretty well on the weight front. I guess I'm lucky that I already have high blood pressure and so I must schedule regular doctor's visits or I might never be forced to take action on my weight. When I told my nutritionist that I was really a quick-fix kind of gal (I know, I know... :sad2: ) she recommended that I stick to primarily fish and veggies for the next couple of weeks. I also have diary servings and some occasional carbs thrown in, but mostly I just remember to pack some tuna for lunch and keep salad or cukes or tomatoes around and I'm good to go. I like keeping things simple -- and I have lost about 11 pounds. Of course, the trick is always transitioning to a leaner lifestyle -- and I haven't been able to pull that off in this (very round) lifetime.

Well, time for work. Just wanted to say hi. :wave2:

Good morning Wendy, we miss your smiling face!!! :goodvibes You are a strong woman, I could not survive on fish and veggies. Too much boredom in my food, it causes me to veer off course. I think I had the same diet when I was body building which is why I am doing this :scared: but, on the up side, I was much leaner then.

Glad to have you back with us and we hope you can stay for awhile and play!!! :dance3:

Hi Deb....NOOOO I want my schedule challenged...but honestly it didn't seem that you were anyway! :thumbsup2 I am just never quite sure if I have the right combo so I truly want feedback/advice. Question away girl...it makes me think about my intentions and more closely examine what I'm doing :). THANK YOU! Mmmmm..Key Lime Pie! YUMMY!

Lisa...GREAT workouts this weekend! Sounds like you're working on your goal and making great strides! Pun intended!!!

Cindy...I think you have an excellent plan of attack! I have NO DOUBT at all that you will speed up. Your performance at the Minnie was incredible!

As for me...DID NOT workout much this weekend with the exception of 75 minutes of yoga on Saturday morning. I woke up Sunday with a sore throat and pounding headache so I backed off for a few days. I think I chased the illness away (lots of OJ and fruit)....so I'm going to get right back on schedule today as planned.

I'll be back later to catch up some more. I know I missed a few of you but I'm heading out to teach a class!

Good morning Team!!

Debra Some of the things that are better without The DOOC around are: reading all night long in bed, fixing nothing but soup and sandwiches for meals, watching whatever I want on TV (no Outdoor Channel!!), cleaning house one time while he is gone, going for long walks at suppertime!, having my favorite foods that HE doesn't like, etc. I love being with him, but sometimes...being without him is lovely too, but not too often or too long....
Packing is the easiest way to force myself to get rid o junk. I always ask myself: 1) Is this object worth the newspaper it would take to wrap it? 2) When did I last use this object? 3) Do I really want to invest packing, moving and unpacking in this object. You would be amazed at how many objects I get rid of!!! :rotfl:

Lisa Sorry Babe, no party, no cake, no fun times. Still trying to get the garage filled up and the closets emptied. DOOC has been working me hard this weekend, the bully! The only good thing was a quick fishing trip that gave me enough time to finish my book. If the fish aren't biting, I don't fish! ::yes::

Beth I love Nancy Clark's book. It is full of wisdom. But if anyone ever figures out what say.....60% carbs means you can tell me. I guess it means 60% by volume but :confused3

Wendy I'm with Lisa. I couldn't do just fish and veggies. I could, but I would lose a lot of weight because I wouldn't eat or none at all because I wouldn't eat it!!! If you get my meaning! You are one tough lady. Good luck at the Doc's. I hope everyting comes out swimmingly!

Cindy I have eased up some on the mileage, not because I finished the half, but because I am feeling very lazy! I have a 10K, June 14, in a Denver suburb. The altitude will be my biggest enemy there, though. i don't have anything else planned, until October, though. I may have to find some race to do just to keep training.

Mike My theorty with stonkers, they make you even more thrilled with great workouts!!! Without a stonker, could you really get that excited with just doing better??? :upsidedow

AmyBeth Your schedule seems just totally grueling to me! I am impressed with it, though!

Where is everyone else??? We miss you! Come back lean meaners, come back!!!

As for me. I don't know what kind of regular workouts I will be getting in this week. I suspect there will be many, many irregular workouts!!! I pick up the grandkids this morning. DD will have her surgery on Friday. I am sure that there will be swimming and moving watching and house keeping and biking....I guess it will primarily be a XT week. Please send Pixie Dust our way!

Connie: You got it babe...pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

And, who messed with the smilies again??? I just figure out where my faves are and they move around again....:furious: :badpc:

Good morning Lean Meaners........we were a pretty active thread for being the holiday weekend!!!! Good for us!!!!! :cool1:

Wendy: Welcome back, it's nice to 'hear' from you! I am glad things are going well for you, and here's hoping that you keep the dreaded diabetes at bay! I am with Lisa though.......fish and veggies would bore me to no end! But, we have to do what is good for ourselves and our one and only body! Good for you, keep at it.

Lisa: Well, I am back to the mommy grind tonight.....ds#1 has baseball practice, while the d2#2 has an away game! I got up at 5:00 to get a 4 mile run in before my day started. It was going to be the only time to get it done. :worried:

Debra: Sorry about all the packing you need to do.....don't you hate when something like that has to occupy your every waking moment, and ruin the exercise time? :furious: I hope it all goes as good as it can.....and done soon! So, you like the Wagon tips? I never know if people are into them or not.....but IF you like them.....I will keep going!

Connie: I guess it would be 60% of your total calorie intake.....figure out how many calories you eat in a day, and divide it up percentage wise. It would be alot of calories, though...... I am following low carb right now, but I am getting my carbs as complex carbohydrates and fruit.....I spend my carbs wisely!::yes::

Mike: How's it going? Nice job on the golf, and carrying your clubs!

Big Vic: How's the remodel going? I don't envy the project, but I will at the end of it! :rolleyes1

WWDave: Thanks for the encouragement......it means the world to me. How is your princess? Hope things are getting better for her.

Maria: How's it going? I hope you had a nice holiday weekend!

All about me: So, my motivation remains high.....eating well, and got up early this am for a run......my schedule today is really tight, and now I don't have to worry about finding time for it later. I did take off yesterday.....not because I wanted too, but it is really hard to fit in when the kids are off. We did get to see Speed Racer in IMAX, and it was pretty good. The kids loved it!

Wagon tip for today: Treat yourself like your best friend. If you mess up and eat things that you shouldn't.....instead of beating yourself up about it, treat yourself like your best friend.....give yourself positive reinforcement, and move on and eat healthy at the next meal. I always say I want to eat well 80% of the time......the only 20% can take care of itself!

Beth

Hi Lean Meaners!
We had a fun weekend at the lake. I got 3 miles in on Sunday and lots of walks back and forth to the pool (1/2 mile each way). It always cracks me up when people say, "Are you gonna WALK to the pool?", we always respond, "It's only 1/2 mile." Plus, with gas being almost $4 a gallon, I wouldn't dare drive.:)
Maria...actually, DH has been called back for a 5th interview! Yay! Is the food porn thread up on the restaurant board?
AmyBeth...Sounds like a solid work-out plan. I love that you're always upbeat. I use R/W intervals for anything over 3.5miles and find that I'm a much happier runner.
Vic...Kitchen remodeled...lucky dog! Really, I mean it...I love my kitchen, it's so pleasant to cook in a happy place. I'm thinking lots of good home cooked meals are comin' your way.::yes::
Stacie...You are awesome girl. Don't be hard on yourself, your schedule needs to fit you.
Panda...Wow, a 10:54 walking pace. Smokin' fast!
Lisa....Thanks for the family description smilies..definitely my laugh for the day, as my DH looks like that at the end of our trips.:lmao: I'm going to check out the cosmetics data base. "Goodbye to you" brings back lots of memories. Way to run in the rain!
Debra....Did you make pancakes? Key lime pie---Yum! What? You don't like it? Sounds like you got some packing in, good girl. What kind of fun writing are you doing?
Mike...Carrying around a heavy golf bag definitely counts as exercise....as long as the drinking doesn't offset the calories burned.;)
Connie....I agree about the 1st day/last day of school thing. Right now, I'm so happy they're home (and so are they!) Thanks for the reminder to thank our military---we have several families around here whose dads are in Iraq.
Wendy....Yay for 11 pounds lost! WTG!
Beth...Yay for not eating cookies. And thanks again for the tip of the day. How was Speed Racer?
Cindy...I swear by the Progresso WW soup for 0 points. It's a great way to get veggies in and it tastes really good. I also love Fiber One bars for 2 pts, and Aldi's has great rice cakes that you get 8 for 1 pt. I agree it's hard to stick to the pts. I really would try varying your points---that's dividing up your extra 35 pts for the week and using 25 pts/1 day, then 22pts/1 day, then 24 pts/1 day and so on. That way on the hungry days you get a little extra and on the lite days, you know that tomorrow you'll get a little extra.:)
Jeanne...
Have a great one all!

Hi Lean Meaners...Remember me??? I'm back from a nice holiday weekend! We went to the NC Coast and had big time! First I'll try to catch up and then do an "all about me" post! :thumbsup2

Tracey... I hope you guys had a great time at the lake this weekend... :wizard: for DH and his job interview!!!

Deb... Your weekend seems busy to me! How awesome that you biked up a hill that you couldn't before! It's awesome to see progress like that. Those are the non-scale victories that we need to keep us moving sometimes. Not only did I see a lot packing happening this weekend, I also saw a lot of key lime pie! Yum!!! I love KL Pie!

Amy...Hi chick! I'm glad you are feeling better! Hope you have a fun class this morning. I totally agree that I think you get PLENTY of strength training in your schedule. Not that I really know what I'm talking about you see, but from the outside, your schedule looks awesome!

Lisa...I enjoy running the rain too. But...prepared! I wish I could get to the point where I feel like I could run forever...It just hasn't happened for me yet. Did you get your garden planted? I'd like to have a garden. Working full-time just doesn't give me any time for that and I really know NOTHING about gardening or even planting flowers for that matter. I would like your recipe for Blueberry muffins. I like muffins. I just never have time to cook!

MIke...I have the Elvis/JXL song my ipod too! :thumbsup2 Really gets me moving!

Connie...You be careful out there w/ 70 mph trucks!!! :wizard: for you and grandkids!!! They are cross training for sure!

Cindy... I know about the emotional eating too, or eating out of boredom. I tell ya... being a mom is hard work! I'm not one yet, but I know that keeping up w/ kids is taxing. I'm sure you're a great mom! Don't be too hard on yourself. We're all in this together!

Beth... YUM! Strawberry cake and choc chip cookies! Party!!! I love them both! Congrats on your 2lb loss! Fantastic! :yay:

Wendy...11lb! Way to go girl! That is great!

Vic, Panda..HI!

Ok...So, Last week was super busy at work... I have another person to support now and he is going to Asia the UK for a week and I'm working on his trip... Work is busier than it has been so I may not be around quite as much. It's impossible for me to keep up w/ the weekly thread.

We went to the NC Coast this weekend. Little town called Stacy where my parents have a place. We had a great time! The girls shopped on Saturday while the boys went fishing. New plates and bowls for me! Yay! We have been eating out of plastic now for 7 years. I thought it was time for a change. On Sunday, we took the boat over to the Outerbanks and Matt surf-fished and then we stopped at the small little island on the way back to the house and grilled out some shrimp and chicken, listed to a Jimmy Buffet concert and had margaritas! WONDERFUL time!!!

On the exercise front...I did get in 2.26 miles in 32 minutes on Sunday. I still could NOT get up this morning and get into that morning routine. This is what I would like my schedule to look like:

Monday...Pilates for Dummies DVD (before work) bike or elliptical at gym after work.
Tuesday...30 min run/walk (before work) aquacise at gym after work
Wednesday...Pilates DVD (before work) maybe a nice leisurely walk w/ DH
Thursday...30 min run/walk (before work)
Friday...Pilates DVD (before work)
Saturday...REST
Sunday...Long Run/Walk (3-4 miles for now)

This is my ideal schedule IF I could get out of bed. The only problem with that is on the days where I go to the gym after work, I go home, change and go straight to the gym and I don't get home til 7:30ish and who wants to cook and eat then? So I'll end up eating cereal or getting a salad from Outback. Tuesday is the worse because I rush home, rush to the gym, do the 30 min aquacise and then have to shower and rush to a religious meetinga at 7:30 and I don't get home til 8:45 and most of the time I haven't had dinner. The problem for me is cooking or finding things to eat healthy that is quickly prepared. I am also pretty lazy when it comes to working out. If I don't have a race scheduled in front of me, I won't do anything. This whole racing thing started with trying to lose weight and finding the motivation to keep me moving. I still have about 50-60 total I would like to lose.

Injury question-- I think I may have "runner's knee." Just below left knee is sore to the touch --about 1.5 inches below my knee and there is a slight bruise. The same for my right, but the bruise is 2 inches below my knee. They don't hurt just sitting here or even walking, but is touch it, it's sore and now there is a small bruise. :confused3

Ok...folks...that post may seem a bit crazy and all over the place, but just trying to catch and let you know what' going on...

Oh...I gained 2lb this weekend. Darn Matt and those Krispy Kreme donughts he's addcited to!!! :worried:

Have a great day folks!
Stacie

Good morning, Lean Meaners,

First off, Wendy: losing 11 pounds in truly amazing! you are a star at whatever you set out to accomplish.

And, Beth: don't be down on yourself....losing 2 pounds is still great! At least you are moving in the right direction....and slow and steady is usually what the experts recommend.

A big shout out to everyone else! I have been so busy lately, I don't know if i'm coming or going. The worst part is, my exercise routine has really suffered. Now I'm at the point where I'm feeling lumpy and grumpy and I can't even bring myself to exercise when I do have the time. My whole body is just so achy I don't want to move. And I'm really tired. So I don't know if I should give into rest and take it easy because my body needs it or force myself to get out and do something. We have one more really busy weekend and then June should be a pretty calm month. This weekend we need to help my youngest son move to a new town about 7.5 hours away because he is too young to rent a U-Haul on his own. My last "baby" is finally leaving the nest. I think I might be a little sad.

Stacie: Get those knees checked. It could be something simple but you could have a torn meniscus. I don't like the sound of the bruising at all. You should have a check before too much more pounding or you could be down for the count.

:scared1:

Sorry Stacie, I don't want to scare you, I just want you to be sure that you are okay to continue on. If you told me you hit your knees this weekend and caused the bruising, I would not be as concerned. I let my meniscus tear go WAAAAY too long and I worked for an orthopedic surgeon at the time. He basically told me to get in the examining room or else. He operated within a week and I had a lot of damage inside my knee. Hence my concern. It is probably nothing more than a little tendinitis and lets hope for the best. I would still get them checked out if they are bothering you. A diagnosis from your doc is way better than me in my little cubby corner of the world....::yes:: :rolleyes1

So, is this something I should see an ortho for? Mine is no longer in my network... So, I will have to find a new one... That's ok though because he is located in my home town which is not close to me here at work. He does have my history w/ my broken leg and all... Seems there is an ortho/sports med office not too far from work that seems to be in the network...

Looks like I may not run tomorrow...

Thanks.
Stacie

Stacie: I would definitely check those knees out.....don't let it go. Better to face something like that head on, and hope for the best!:goodvibes

Jeanne: I vote for getting out and moving.....I was just 'reflecting' the other day with a friend. I have many aches and pains from running and working out, but I was MUCH worse when I was inactive. EVERYTHING hurt then, for no reason at all......I was a couch potato! :scared1: I bet you will start feeling like yourself again once you can get the workouts in! Yeah that June will be quieter for you! But,:( for the youngest leaving the nest. I would be sad too. I always looked toward Nancy for life events like that....she was a little sad, but when ds #2 moved back home, so was a little miffted b/c he messed up her and Norm's 'routine'!!!! Now, they all have their routines down, so no problem now! :goodvibes

Stacie, I hope I have not worried you without means. I would take the course of least resistance, PCP or ortho wherever you can get in the soonest. Me being me, I would run as long as it didn't hurt but that is me and I already told you my sad tale. I would definitely get them checked before I did anything heavy duty. I hate feeling that I told you not to run...:worried: Do what is right for you.

Jeanne, I agree with Beth on moving versus not moving. I think we all experience the loss of love (Amy has it now too) and feel pain and agony easier than at other times. I am :furious: when I don't exercise so I would definitely be a vote in the "do" column. Here's hoping that if you get out at it again, the agony of defeat will leave and the ecstasy from the win will return. Just think, bling, bling, bling......:hyper:

Good morning strong and beautiful princesses, and my fellow guys who love hanging with them. Yep life is good.

Stacie, you probably just have a strain but knees are like achillies tendons, you can mess them up good if you keep ignoring the pain. I tried for two years to run hurt and ended up ending my running.

You might try ice, elevation and rest when you can. I would vote for a couple of rest days at least just to see how it reacts.

Jeanne, sometimes a short break is worth it's weight in gold, but short breaks have a way of becoming long breaks. You have accomplished a lot, don't give it up. I know you and John feel much better than you have in years. I see simles on your faces in those pictures that say it all.

I had a heck of a workout this morning, 4 miles on the hills, an hour of cals and pilaties followed by good dynamic and static stretching. Then went home and pushed the mower for 2 hours, the humidity finally hit Southern Ky this morning.

Now off to see one of my heroes, Indiana Jones, popcorn, soda and snuggling my princess, "YEAH BABY", life is very good. Guys is there anything better than a good movie, hot popcorn and a babe snuggled up to you.

Happy Panda:hippie:
