Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Good morning Lean Meaners. I missed everyone yesterday. Too much to do, I didn't even get my bike ride in, but I did get DH's cell phone fixed and working again so he can call everyone but me!!!

Stacie: My DH and DS6 would think you had the most awesome job on the planet. Caterpillar!!! DH is a contractor and sad to say they have moved away from CAT but they maintain a really old (really should have been in caps) loader that is their steady eddie on the job. I told DS6 the other day that they had a new loader called a Terpilla because the CA and R are missing it is soooooo old. So see, you have a very cool job to some people. :thumbsup2 How are your knees today?

Debra: Screenplay....wow you are talented. I had no idea we were in the presence of budding greatness. :worship: I'm not much for key lime pie though so I will have to stick with the margarita...oh wait....I won't be there in January...:worried: You will all have to enjoy it for me!!

AmyBeth: Take the Applefest off the short list and add it on the DO list for this year. It is my first year doing this race. Joanne (GroovyGirls) lives in Hollis and she can probably tell you more about it. Chad (MickeyHead) has done it before too. I was going to do my first full (MDI Marathon) in October but since DH decided he would lift the Disney restriction and let me do ToT, I decided the half would be better for my poor old body!!!

Speaking of ToT, I had my first nightmare last night. I didn't make it to the race, could not find anyone and ended up starting a half hour behind everyone else. Can you believe it, 4+ months out and I have nightmares already. You would think they would be about the half but, oh no, it had to be ToT.

Mike: If 9:09 mpm is not good enough, I should quit now. I am still hanging in the 10s.

Amy: Yay for 2 lbs. I think I found them though. I seem to have fallen off our lovely wagon. I ate a Snickers and a McDonalds chicken club yesterday. What was I thinking????

Beth: My kids are so sick of hearing about portion sizes I think they are planning a mutiny. That is one of the things I preach to my kids on a daily (hourly?) basis. Oh, did I mention that the Snickers was king size...and I did not exercise yesterday....:rolleyes1

Vic, Bill...hey guys, I think we forgot them at the last potty stop....:lmao:

Everyone else: Hi, howdy and I hope you are all doing well.

From the great North woods, well, I told you I ate badly, I did not exercise. I did however, buy some new kicks. Olympia here has a buy one get one half off sale and since my Adidas crapped out on my during my Sunday run, I decided it was time. I bought an Asics Nimbus 9 and a Saucony Trigon 5 ride. I had been running in guides but I really took a good look at my gait and while the Guides fit my arch really nicely, the Rides did too and I really don't pronate much anymore...thank goodness. Also, they all kept telling me how this insert worked better and that insert worked better and I kept giving them my  face telling them that a good shoe should not need an insert to fit, darn it. I have 4 on tap for today and am trying the Nimbus. Keep your fingers crossed. I did get 3.75 in on Tuesday, it was 85 and sticky as all get out, and I was supposed to do 4 but I could not talk myself into the last .25 miles and DH came along in the dumptruck just in time. Then, 3 hours later, I sat absolutely freezing at a ballgame due to the cold front coming through. You have to love Maine to live here. DD13 last softball game for middle school tonight and DS6 has a game in another town too. More fun in store for tonight!!

Have a great day everyone!!!!!!!!!! :yay:

This is the first time I posted on this thread. I did my first race earlier this month (Minnie 15K). I was given a little short-cut because I wasn't able to keep up the pace (I'm a walker). So, at least they gave me the opportunity to finish and get my medal. I've signed up for the ToT (13K) and the Princess 1/2. But, I really need to drop some weight. I lost 40+ pounds last year, but since the Minnie 15K, have gained back 6 pounds. Don't want it to get out of hand. I really want to lose another 40 pounds (60 would be ideal, but would be happy with 40). It's so hard to get back on track! :confused3

Debbie, you are in the right place. We work very hard to hold each other accountable and give each other great tips on attaining our goals. ToT, yay, I am soooo excited I can hardly contain myself...:hyper: Another friend to play with in the dark!!!!! :yay: :dance3:

Good Morning All! Hope everyone is well this morning. I'm happy it is Thursday. Although this has been a short week, it doesn't feel like it.

Deb...Yay for signing the lease!!! I hope you guys have a fabulous time at the amusement park!

Amy...I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better and had a good post-illness workout. If you get the chance to go to MB w/ your parents...DO IT! It is very touristy, but there is a lot to do and I know your girls would have a great time. Where is their time share at? We're not going for a week this year (Vero Beach instead) and I didn't really think I would miss it since we've gone every year...forever. But, I'm actually kinda sad we won't make it. Our friends Paul and Michele own a condo down there so may go for a long weekend in the fall or something...it's just not the same though, but I'll take what I can get!

Lisa...How cool that your DH uses a CAT! I hate to hear they moved away from CAT machines. Do you know the reason why? I'm just curious...price, quality, needed things CAT didn't offer??? So you're not going in January??? I totally thought you were. So sad! :( Yay for your new shoes! That is very exciting. I'm going to need some in a few months. I use the Saucony Hurricane 9. They've just come out w/ the 10s and I went online hoping to find the 9s on sale...but no luck. I hope the 10s fit as well at the 9s. I hope you had a fantastic run in your new shoes today!!!

Debbie...HI! Welcome.

Everyone else...

So...I'm taking it easy and not stressing the knees right now. The area 2 inches below my knee is still tender and bit sore too. Bruising still there as well. I'm glad I have an appt w/ the ortho. Since I broke the one leg 7 years ago w/ has resulted in arthritis in one knee, I would like a professional to take a look at it and clear me for my activity. My last one told me I probably shouldn't run (but that was really before I wanted to anyway) so I'll see what this one says. He may say I need to walk/run just to save my knee...

I guess that's about all from me. Now on to my glamarous job of filling out paper work for my boss' Peruvian Visa.

Listen up! :listen: lol! I just wanted to use that smilie. Have a great day ya'll.

Stacie

Good morning Lean Meaners.....quite chatty yesterday, huh???? Nice to see the newbies.....welcome to the group! We really nice here....unless you catch us eating King Sized Snickers bars....((((dear Lisa!))))). :goodvibes If you are going off the wagon, there is nothing better than a good Snickers bar! :thumbsup2

SuperDebbie: Welcome. Hope the group helps you get on track.

Lisa: I hear ya :listen: on the time crunch. I was in it myself yesterday. I had to get home from work, cook supper quickly, feed the kids, dress the oldest for his concert, deal with some hassle with the cable, dress myself for a run, run 3 miles, shower, dress AGAIN, and get everyone to the concert in about 1 1/2 hours. I felt like a manic hamster on a wheel. By the time I was at the concert, finally sitting down, I was yawning like crazy. My df asked me why I was yawning so much......:confused3 Sorry to hear you missed your bike ride. I hate when LTO!

Stacie: So cool you are named for such a nice place, with good memories! I love the stories people have about their 'name-sakes'!

Debra: KennyWood sounds fun. We were going to go there last year, but never made it....let me know how it is! Have a good day off!

Amy: Good job on the 2 pounds!

Dave, Bill, Big Vic......how's it going????

Maria, Tracy, Connie.......:yay: Hope you all have a good day!

Beth

Hey Lean Mean Endurance Event Machines!

Ok, so no bike time yesterday, either. This is not a good pattern. I have been so wiped by the time I got home all week, nothing is happening. Today should be better. I just have to be all done before the Lostapalooza starts. :thumbsup2

Beth -- your day reminds me of that Billy Joel song, Running On Ice. Oh my goodness! It's a good thing you didn't actually nod off at the concert, I think I might have! ;)

Stacie -- It may not be glamorous, but your boss would be very sad if he tried to enter Peru without it! :rotfl: I bet you learn all kinds of interesting trivia about other countries. It's like your own personal Epcot!

Debbie -- Hi and :welcome: Congratulations on losing 40+ lbs! That is a huge accomplishment! :dance3:

Lisa -- my favorite walk/jogging shoes are Asics gels -- I think they're nimbus, but it might be another model. Anyway, they fit my feet and are lighter than any other shoe I've ever tried. I really hope you like them! :cool1:

AmyBeth -- Hopefully you are continuing to feel better. All those endorphins are bound to be battling for you! :goodvibes

Mike -- Like you, I'm still trying to get my playlist just right. I love it when people post theirs. Radar Love is one of my new faves!

Debra -- I hope you are able to avoid the house rental in January. That just sounds like pure he:furious: to me, and not where I'd want to be right before the race. If you do that, hopefully you can convince DOOD to move onsite at least the night before, so you can eat well, relax, and not worry about other people...:rolleyes1 You can tell him it's part of your resolution to do what you need to do to have a great race! ::yes:: How was Kennywood? I'm not a big fan of amusement parks outside of Disney and Universal. I just wind up disappointed...

Tracey -- I'm with you for the margarita and Key Lime Pie! It sounds like we need should have a calendar of WISH events for the marathon, to pull it altogether for people. I think I'm in two or three things at this point! Lean Mean Pie-Eating machines, here we come! :mickeybar

Amy -- :yay: for 2 lbs!

Beth2 the Sequel -- Portion sizes, my downfall! It's a good thing there are 100 calories packs of virtually every snack I eat. I need to portioned for me, otherwise it's not pretty! :scared1: My new favorites a chocolate covered pretzels. Those seem to really satisfy me. Unfortunately, I am still addicted to sugar. Do you find it easier to wean yourself off, or go cold turkey? :confused3

Okay, everybody have a lean mean day -- and say something to get me on that bike! :rotfl2:

Maria

Maria....I'm trying to motivate to get out on my bike too. Let's just do it...we'll be SOOO happy we did. :goodvibes Thanks for the well wishes on feeling better. Was feeling pretty good yesterday...so went out and ran, did Pilates, yada yada. Woke up this morning feeling awful. I'm trying to shake it before I meet my friends for a possible 18 mile bike ride. :confused3 Not sure if I should go or not.

Maria: :listen: is that your bike calling you?? Poor lonely bike...no one to ride it...:worried:

I'm headed for my run at 12:30 so I expect to "see" you out on your poor lonely bike too!!! See, I took the day off, you took the day off, I exercise, you exercise....just like the virtual partner on my Garmin....

Have a great day Maria and everyone else too......:wave2:

PS: Wow AmyBeth, great minds and all right....;) I think you should go for your ride, it will make you feel better. My allergies are really bad right now with all the darned lilacs in bloom. Most people think they smell great, to me they are the smell of death!!! :confused3 Hope you feel better soon!!!! :thumbsup2

Ok, AmyBeth and Lisa, you have inspired me!

I promise to report a bike ride tomorrow. I do think it's probably lonely and calling me name, because no one else is going to pay any attention to it! :rotfl:

Bill, Vic, Connie, Dave and everyone else I missed before -- Hope you are having an awesome day! :wizard:

Lisa -- Have a wonderful run!

AmyBeth -- A bikeride with friends sounds like just the thing!

Maria

Good morning pretty princesses and guys.

Maria, yes the bike needs you.

Debbie, walkers rock, I'm a walker also. Welcome to the Leaner thread.

Lisa, you are our cheerleader, we love you and appreciate you being here.

Stacie if the Dr says you shouldn't run anymore you are always welcome to hang with the rest of us walkers. I do hope you get the go ahead to do on with your running to.

Debra, the park sounds fun. Stay out of trouble now.

I had a good walk up to the top of the WKU hill and back to the health club. It was 4.5 miles and time was 56:09 including the slower first mile to warm up.

Yes AmyBeth, I did some dynamic and static stretches after.

Everyone walk/run strong today.

Walking Panda:hippie:

:wizard: Amy and Lisa!!! I hope you girls are feeling better soon. Hopefully the bike ride will do you good!

Stacie

Maria: I would say cold turkey sugar withdrawal. It takes me about a week to stop the cravings......and I will tell you, it's really hard not to breakdown with the cravings......last Tuesday, I wanted (felt that I NEEDED) a cookie in the worse way! If you can stand it, it's better to not to indulge the craving. A week makes a big difference. I feel so much better now, and my energy is way up!

Beth

Good morning Lean Meaners. Wow, we were so chatty yesterday I think I answered everyone throughout the day and I don't have much to say....yeah right....

Beth: I totally agree about cold turkey with the sugar thing. I have given it up, mostly, (except the occasional Snickers bar) and it took me longer than a week to let go the cravings. We have Sunday dinner at the ILs every week and she cooks dessert every time. I don't eat much sugar during the week so this was the hard one for me. I have, however, learned to cook with honey more and so I tell myself it is not sugar....technically....right.....:hyper:

AmyBeth and Maria: Hope the bike rides went well and I hope that AmyBeth is feeling better. The lilacs were definitely in full force yesterday!!!:headache:

Stacie: I asked DH about the CAT thing and he said fuel consumption, fuel consumption and fuel consumption. I hate to tell you that they bought a Volvo loader last year and it consistently reads 1.9 gallons an hour which is amazing for a L60E loader. They do still love their CAT that they take to the job site and their CAT excavator and will be looking at updating the excavator soon. He said they were tough as nails but the fuel thing is killing everyone in his line of work. He got his fuel bill for the month of May and between the log truck, dump truck and the skid tank for the equipment, a lowly $3400. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Dave:  as always you silly Panda you. Give us the Erica update when you get a chance!!

Everyone else: Well the wagon is full but no one seems to be talking. Do we smell up here in the front????? Where is everyone? I hope Debra did not fall into a box and DOOD taped it up.....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

From the Great North Woods, well I had a great run yesterday. It was slow due to my screaming hammy but still it was in the good column. The wind was blowing a gale, the lilacs were out in force and it is very dry here so there was lots of dust too but I just kept pushing along and, as per my normal, about mile 2 things all came together and life was good for my shining moment. :cloud9: I made 4 miles at a slow 10:58 pace being respectful of my hamstring (did I mention I signed up for the USATF study that Mel posted and I am a nonstretcher before my runs now  ) and we made it just fine. A little sore but not too bad. Really liked the Asics Nimbus shoes but they are definitely warmer than my Saucony's. Mental note there. DD13 pitched in her last middle school softball game and her little league coach came to watch (i.e. harrass) her. She did well, after we left she hit a triple with bases loaded...:thumbsup2 DS6 had his rookie baseball game and he did well too. He had a great play from the pitchers mound to first base...until the first baseman did not catch the ball. You have to love rookie ball where they are learning and no one knows how to catch a ball yet. :goodvibes

So, see, even when I have nothing to say, I have lots to say. Can you tell I don't get out much....::yes:: Have a great day and I hope everyone has lots of fun scheduled for this weekend!!! :dance3: (invite me if you do.....:rolleyes1 )

Good morning pretty princesses and fellow guys who adore them for their wit and sassy charm.

Lisa, Erica is doing super she rested yesterday since we had a friend over for the day who was passing through town. One of our dear friends from the running world. That and work was why I wasn't on much either yesterday.

She goes back to the Dr on monday for a well Erica check and we are expecting him to release her to go back to work. They will take Xrays and stuff and make sure she is healing up good.

I'm doing good also, my training is going really well. Doing eveything right fom nutrition to stretching is really paying off. I feel better than I have in years, no little niggly aches and pains anymore.

I haven't had a chance to read back on how everyone is doing, I wanted to get a good morning hello out before I head off to battle with the road.

Have a great morning y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Yay for Erica!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: It must feel so good to finally see the end of her pain and misery and be back on the road to health again! I am soooo happy for her.

Yay for you too Dave. It is amazing how when we keep ourselves limber and strong, everything else falls into place. I am missing my pre-run stretch very much, my calves are missing it, my hamstrings are missing it, my Achilles is missing it, okay, pretty much all of me is missing it. I am allowed to stretch at any other time that I would have normally stretched during the day but I cannot add in any stretching. It has been really difficult for me. I stretch in the morning and post-run but the pre-run stretch appears to be VERY important for me. Now that you have started the stretching and core work, you are gonna miss it too when you can't fit it in....::yes::

Have fun on the road to fitness today!!!!

Lisa...Thanks for the info from DH. We are all feeling this gas crunch huh. I totally understand. I'm sure our marketing folks have heard it before, but I will pass along his comments to them. We always want to make sure our customers are satisfied! :thumbsup2

Dave...Glad to hear you and Erica are both doing well!!!

I think this weekend I will organize. I am in an organizing mood and by looking at our home, you would think we were college students. It irritates me so. We both work full-time and then by the time we try to get in our workouts and then we have two religious meetings during the week (T/Th), there is no time to clean/organize things around the house. Let's hope I'm still in an organizing mood tomorrow! lol!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Stacie

Hi all....I came on here 2x yesterday and halfway through my posts, my computer locked up. :confused3 . DH has assured me the problem is fixed--so I'm trying again (luckily I took notes) or else I'll be :badpc:
Deb...Thanks for the pep talk:goodvibes . I agree that Harold is a fabulous book and sorry that I razzed you about your book fetish. I truly have given away 1000's in the past 5 years and I still have boxes of children's lit and shelves of novels. OK, now I've made myself sound like I live in a library, it's not that bad! Maybe, I need to start giving away more!;) Hope you had fun at Kennywood--it sounds like a blast.

Stacie...Thanks for the Myrtle Beach info. We're staying on the North end, there are outlet malls there right? I think it's cool that you were named after the town of Stacy.

Mike...Go, Mike, Go!

AmyBeth....I love the Dummie Pilates! I've been doing Winsor and I like the Dummies girl much better, plus she never says "tushie"! I'm glad you're starting to feel better and I totally agree that running in the cool weather is so much more pleasant.:)

Lisa...Yum, snickers! New shoes---lucky dog! I LOVE:love: lilacs-----smell of death? I have 2 big bushes of them in my yard. Do they bring bad memories or just bad allergies? I have these great memories of my mom bringing in huge bouquets of them and in fact she gave me my starters. Either way, they should be close to the end of their season---they just finished blooming here---hoping you have a good non-smelly run this weekend.

Superdebbie...:welcome: great job on the 40lb weight loss. You are being good and getting right back on the wagon---for me those 6 lbs turn into 7, then 8, then 9, and so on!:scared1: We're here to keep you motivated and accountable and we're glad you're here.

Beth...WTG on that 3 miler with such a crazy schedule.

Maria...I'm with you and I  my Asics gels! They're a little wider in the toe box and that works great for me. Girl, did you get on that bike?

Dave, Vic, Connie, Wendy, Cindy, and everybody else...

I got my 3 miles in on the TM last night, not my first choice, but my time was good so I'm a happy girl. It's a pilates day for me and maybe a slow trail walk. Have a great day!

Hi Mean Leaners!
Thanks for all your support a few pages back! I'm gonna be fine once this weekend is over. Of course, yesterday my car broke down so that threw another monkey wrench into the situation, but I can deal with it. I say goodbye to one baby this weekend, but will have 2 more coming home next week. My house is like Grand Central right now!

Sorry I can't respond to everyone individually right now.....I promise to get back on track when the activity around here dies down. I feel like such an ingrate for whining. I have such great kids....and yes, sometimes they can be a P. in the A., but my life would be so dull wiithout them and I am truly blessed to be so busy with happy stuff.

Debra: I LOVE Harold and the Purple Crayon!!!! Just you mentioning it brought a smile to my face. You are too young to remember this....maybe Dave or Nancy would....but back in the mid-fifties there was a TV show (the name escapes me right now, but it will come....) where you put a clear plastic shield over your TV screen (B&W, of course) and helped the cartoon character out by drawing in a solution (ala Harold) with a special wipable crayon. My big sis had the kit, but wouldn't let me use it. So one day when the show was on and no one was looking I drew all over the TV without the screen and with my regular Crayolas! Boy, was my butt sore that day! Oh, I just remembered, it was called Winky Dink!

Happy weekend to all.......please send pixie dust for the family road trips...mine to TN, and for my 2 kids that will be driving cross-country.

Love you guys!

Hey Lean Meaners!

Yes! I did 10.87 miles on the bike yesterday! Thanks for all the encouragement, I wouldn't have done it without you! :thumbsup2

Tonight will be a bit of an eating challenge. We have an event for ds's school, and it's a dinner with a Chinese buffet. I'm pretty sure there will be nothing I should eat. Sigh. At least it's the last adult event of the year...

Tracey -- I too am a bookworm, I just tend to order from the library. It's so easy, I just go online, place my order, and dh picks them up at the local branch. It's hard to say no to that...plus I could easily bankrupt us if I bought everything I read. Still working on Truman up to page 665, so about 300 to go, and I have a couple of Cokie Roberts books ([Founding Mothers and Ladies of Liberty on tap, as well as a couple of scrapbooking mysteries. I also have some ready for pickup at the library. I need to get through Trumanso I can get back to the fun books! :goodvibes

Stacie -- If I may suggest, start by picking a small area, set a timer for 15 minutes, and see what you can organize. Don't burn out by trying to do it all at once! ::yes::

Lisa -- So sorry for the lilacs, I hope they finish blooming soon! :yay: for the great/good run!

Dave -- So glad to hear you and Erica are both doing well. I am the proud owner of a new prescription, so I will be able to continue to see and read the backs of all those WISH shirts in January! :rotfl:

Beth -- Ok, I'm going to give this sugar addiction of mine some thought. Can I ask a personal question? Do you find that when you give up the sugar it helps with bloating? I seem to blow up when I have lots of sugar in a day, and if that might stop, I'm going to have to seriously consider it. :confused3

AmyBeth -- Did you also answer the call of your bike? :listen: I know it was calling you in a non-threatening, unstalkerlike way!

Mike, Debbie, Debra, Vic, Connie, Wendy, Bill, Cindy, Amy & all other Lean Mean Machines -- Have a wonderful weekend! :woohoo:

Maria

Amy: Yay for 2 lbs. I think I found them though. I seem to have fallen off our lovely wagon. I ate a Snickers and a McDonalds chicken club yesterday. What was I thinking????

I think might find those 2 pounds again! :rolleyes1 Work is making me feel like this right now :furious: :furious: so I am going to get a stromboli for lunch and make myself some mojitos when I get home! I also plan on getting on the TM. I think that may be a better outlet for work stress!

:confused3
I am new here too! :welcome: The minnie 5K/15K were my first races! In my ideal world, I would love to lose 40 pounds by the 1/2 marathon in january and definitely by the princess in march. :yay:

I think this weekend I will organize. I am in an organizing mood and by looking at our home, you would think we were college students. It irritates me so. We both work full-time and then by the time we try to get in our workouts and then we have two religious meetings during the week (T/Th), there is no time to clean/organize things around the house. Let's hope I'm still in an organizing mood tomorrow!
Me too! Me too! I have been on an organizing and purging kick! Here's some organizing dust pixiedust: pixiedust:

Hey Everyone! I did another 3 miles last night, that makes 9 total for the week so far! I took DD around the 'hood in her jogger. This is how she likes to roll.:cool2: :cool2:
1fthjk.jpg

I love her face in this picture. We were on POC at MK at the P&P party. She never got scared/upset, she just kind of had this look of uncertainty on her face!
15x7dad.jpg

I plan on starting C25K again today, at W3D1. As I said above, work is just making me feel:furious: :furious:   , so I think I am going to channel it into something that will benefit me!

:wave2: :wave2: :wave2: to everyone I missed and I hope everyone has a good friday!
