I know there are several from the "What makeup do you use" thread.

I need to know who's got the best prices and what products you love.

For those who don't know my story - I reciently had a sever allergic reaction to beauty products. When I say sever, I mean, requiring hospitalization.

I'm a total girly girl and love make up so Bare Minerals was recommended to me.

I bought the foundation, conceler, warmth, mineral veil and clear radiance in addition to brushes at Sephoria yesterday. Spent WAY too much money but since I threw out all my other makeup what's a girl to do...

Has anyone ordered the "trial" set from bareminerals.com? Where do you get your products? It's so much cheaper there. I was thinking of returning the warmth, mineral veil and clear radiance to Sephoria and buying the kit online but it says it takes 4-6 weeks. What about through QVC? I'd keep the brushes I have and the foundation since I need makeup in the meantime.

advice.opinions.

I have bought mine from QVC and some from a reputable seller on eBay. The products that I have purchased from that seller all come factory sealed and fresh (have expiration dates on the bottom of container).

I just wanted to add that I tried to order the starter kit from BM's web site, but I couldn't do it unless I joined the club.

That's good to know - I don't want to join the club. I'm not sure how long I'll stick with it. I'm fickle.

I saw a blush/eye shadow combo on QVC's site that was reasonable that I might get.

So far I like it.

Any application tips or recommendations people have would be appriciated too!

I usually order from QVC because of their return policy. It's difficult to tell what color a product is until you see it in person or actually use it.

For me, the can't-live-without products would be the foundation, Bisque, eyebrow kit, and Mineral Veil. Plus I use their brushes because they are such high quality.

I don't like Warmth because it is so orangy. I think my favorite blush from Bare Escentuals is I'm Amused Rouge. It looks the most natural I think.

There are 3 Bare Escentuals shows coming up this Wednesday on QVS. Each is 2 hours long and worth watching because they show you how to use the products correctly.

I bought the foundation, mineral veil and color (it looks like a brick red blush) from QVC. it also came with two brushes. I was just staying up late one night and this came on TV, so I bought the kit! I have seen it sold locally near me too.

I can't remember what I paid for it, sorry! :D I really like the base, because it feels natural. I like to look like a girly, girl, but to not put much work into it. I only use a really small amount of the base to swirl around on the brush. I think that some people use too much. You only need a little.

I wonder what the eye shadow looks like? I may try that next! :D

The eyeshadows are really nice, but some of the Glimmers can be too sparkly for me. Probably a good basic eyeshadow to start off with would be Java. It's a nice neutral brown that you can use with Bisque. The eyeliners are great too.

I bought my starter kit at an Ulta Store near where I live... we got the ad in the Sunday paper so I found where to go... now I watched QVC and they were selling a kit, I grabbed the Sunday ad, and QVC was selling it cheaper!! Its hard to find the eye color for me tho!! I have used an Estee Lauder concealer stick as a base, then brush on the eye color... someone from the Dis directed me to her Delphi forum of just Bare Minerals and that website has lots of pictures of the eye colors, as well as some helpful techniques, not that I understand, it seems simple, but I havent played around with "foiling" (wet brush techniques) I'm at work so I dont have the web addy, I'm sure someone will post or PM you if you are interested. That website has lots of dedicated BM users, and it is like here with a message board as well...

Java sounds really good. I like sparkly, but usually only for evening or special ocasions. I'm using "fairly light" base coat, but I was kind of wondering if it is too light! When I went to The Sephora store in VA, the sales lady said that it was a good color for me, but I'd like to try a different one just to see what it looks like. :D

Foiling that you referred to is to wet your brush, swirl it in the lid of the shadow, then paint it onto your eyelid. It looks nice and when it dries you can still smudge it a bit to blend it.

The eyeliners are also a loose powder that you can apply wet or dry. I smudge mine after it dries so it looks a little softer.

One reason their products are so great because a tiny bit goes a long way, and they are so easy to apply and blend.

If you think your foundation is too light, get another color and blend them. You can use the darker color in the summer when you are tan.

I use Fair (#1) and Medium (#3). In the winter I am really pale, so I can use Fair by itself.

If you watch the show on QVC they can help you figure out what color you should use. Also, they have an 800 number just for Bare Escentuals at QVC and the people on the phones really know their stuff.

I vote for QVC, too. I've checked all places, and ordering the items 'a la carte' is about the same price for all online places.

The benefit to Sephora is they give you a 60 day return policy, whereas QVC only gives you 30.

QVCs benefit is they sell products on 'easy pay' on the days they have big special shows (like this Wednesday), so you can break your payments over a few (or 3 or 4) months. And a lot of their bigger kits ($50-$100) have brushes in them, so it's an even better deal. They also show you great application tips when you watch the B.E. specials. They offer a great kit with a blush and 2 eye shadows in a kit so you don't have to pick colors yourself.

I wear Tan foundation, and mix it with warmth in the summer to darken the color. I usually don't wear too many of their eye shadows, I wear their Glee and True face color on my eyes. Their glimmers are too sparkly if you put too much on, but their glimpses are really nice.

The set you get when you join the B.E. 'club' is a great deal because you get all the brushes. BUT the pots of makeup are smaller sized than what you buy at Sephora or QVC. Just something to keep in mind.

Um, one question. Do you know what ingredients you reacted to? It doesn't make sense to me to throw away everything when it might have been just one thing that bothered you.
Also, if you don't know exactly what triggered your reaction, how do you know if you aren't getting the exact same thing with the new products.

Ok, two questions. lol

I would definitely go with the BE intro kit because it includes the brushes you need. It's a great value for everything you get, plus you get two foundations so you can find which one works for you.

We have a list of places to buy BE from on our shopping page, so you may want to check that out. It also has eBay sellers listed that sell samples of the products.

Valid questions. I didn't throw every last bit out. I did save eyeshadows, mascara, eyeliners, lipsticks, things I KNEW were 100% safe. I did throw out all my foundation, concealers etc. I had changed tints of foundation and hair conditioner so they were both leading suspects. They have 2 ingrediants in common.

I had both skin and blood allergy test run against the new things I was using. I've also talked to researchers at the companies who made the products about their ingredients and testing etc since what happened to me was very very rare.

Because of the seriousness I really didn't want it to happen again so out went the things I already owned that could have the suspected chemicles in them. What happened was an extreamly rare and fluke thing. Both companies have requested my blood work and results of the testing against the 2 ingredients that the products have in common.

Bare Minerals is made from minerals so there are no dyes, perfumes or preservatives. The advertise themselves as being chemical-free. They are also all powders so it's not like a liquid foundation that your skin absorbs.

So no, I'm not 100% positive what caused it yet. They are still running tests. I should know more when I go to the Dr on the 17th. But I'm not taking chances on keeping things that it could have been.

Had this been a allergic reaction that cleared up with Benardryl or something like that it would be a different story but right now I'd rather spend $150 on new makeup and hair care products than take my chances on the old ones.

I absolutely agree. I'm glad you're getting answers. Not knowing would really bug me. lol

QVC will be having BARE ESCENTIALS on JANUARY 13!! check your program guide for local times. :)

I am a Lancome girl.. or shall we say I was a Lancome girl.. used it for years and years... now I love BE....

I have found that QVC has some great deals on BE. Last wkd I was at Valley Fair mall in San Jose. I spoke to a couple of employees, they said that THEY purchased the Today's special value of BE from QVC last month because even with s&h it was $10 cheaper than the Goddess set sold in their store.
I am very fair.. use the lightest shade they make..
my daughters are biracial.. and dang BE foundations are a PERFECT match for their skin tones.... my youngest is 15 and BE has solved MANY of our arguements over "too much heavy makeup for a girl" YAY!!!

So what has anyone bought so far today from QVC? Anything fun?

No, I missed all 3 shows!! I'm so bummed! My grandma's basement flooded today from all the rain we're getting, so I was over there with my family helping clean up. I got home in time to see ER, and was so tired I fell asleep! I woke up at 10:58 and thought, "Hey, let's check QVC to see if BE is on." And of course I just missed it.

did you watch it? How were the new colors in the 3 pc eyeshadow kit and the new lip gloss colors? Anything else new?

I'm going to check QVC.com now for the 24 hour product review.

I wasn't too excited about anything this time, but I probably spent about $100 anyway! I needed a new foundation and an eyeshadow. So as long as I was already ordering, I also got 2 lip liners and the new 3 piece eye and cheek color collection.

The new 3 piece collection looks like it has colors I have been kind of looking for but hadn't seen yet. I can't remember the name of the new collection because these new names say nothing to describe the color! But the blush is a nice pink, with an eyeshadow in sort of soft taupe and a pale pink glimmer. We'll see what they actually look like in person! The other 3 piece collections were not new.

The new 9 piece collection had very pretty greens for the eye colors, but that's not something that would interest me. I like more neutral or classic colors, so green is a bit much for me! They were beautiful colors, though, if you can wear them.

So, what did you end up buying?

I have lots of allergies and sensitive skin, so I was reluctant to try them too. We have a Bare Minerals store here at the Mall of America, and I went down and had them applied. Then I walked around the Mall for a couple of hours shopping to see if they bothered me. They didn't, so I purchased the whole thing! I decided not to go with the sample kit, because they contain less than buying the original size jars. I LOVE the stuff! It is so light, and I have not had a hint of a problem in over 6 months of use.
