Back from Portifino

I have always enjoyed staying onsite at Universal. However, their extremely high prices during the past 2 years makes it impossible for an average family. We have not been back in 3 years. Also, I have to agree with the housekeeping. My experience is that their housekeeping is terrible and under staffed, so our room was often cleaned very late in the afternoon. Whenever I sent letters or discussed it with management we seem to get the same old line - that this is not how their service should be and to please accept their appologies. I will not stay there again unless I win powerball, have a free room or the price is under $120 a night.:confused3 :confused3

You are in luck! There have been $124 a night rate sightings on this board this week for RPR. Not too shabby for a deluxe resort. http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1382122

On a separate note and not belittling your experience in anyway, just sharing my own. I have had many stays at the Universal on-sites and housekeeping has always been top notch for us.

I cant get past this part of the story. They reassigned your room and moved your belongings? :scared1:  They actually entered your room, packed up your things and moved them?

Actually, they reassigned my room with our belongings still in it. They then couldn't enter the room to check for our belongings because it was now assigned to someone else.

I wonder how much trouble that clerk got into???

When we were there a few weeks ago, we got our room changed (with our permission) and the bellman moved the luggage to the new room. When we came back to our new room, it was all there.

Sounds like someone really got their wires crossed!!! Too bad they didn't make it up to you though.

I just stumbled across this thread and have never stayed at any of the Universal hotels, but would love to in the future. I just can't believe some of this stories, and the plumber one is hilarious:rotfl2:

We have always had good luck with housekeeping. My wife calls them to ask for early service or extra towels and finds it very helpful that she is fluent in Spanish. It helps, too, when the kids greet the maids in Spanish. We have even had them show up mid-day to ask if we needed anything.
Another tip to receive good service is to go on Ebay and buy a name tag. This has worked at WDW and UO. Leave the employee name tag on the night stand and housekeeping thinks that an employee is staying there and they seem to take better care of their "own". We always get towel animals when we do this at WDW.
That toilet paper in the toilet thing is the most disgusting thing about visiting Mexico. A number of immigrants have brought that "tradition" to the USA but to say its a policy of a 4 star hotel is simply wrong.

Wow, very clever! Will any name tag do? I've always wanted to be Consuela.

I have quite a few WDW CM tags. My secretary got me one with my name on it. The one time I wore it was Halloween (not so scary...) and a CM got all up in my face that he was going to get me kicked out of MK for by dressed as a CM.
Universal name tags are harder to come by. But not too long ago they changed the print (to make it easier for us old f@rts to read) and there may be some old ones on Ebay? The maids don't know the difference.
You can borrow Jessica, Mac. I'll need her for June and August though.

you are on motherfletcher.........

i'll be there after you..........

I didn't see the elder thread. I'd be scared to open it though because it would be admitting. My best friend at work reminds me on a daily basis that I'm the same age as her mother. and that the average age for men to kick off is 72?:scared1:

Our very first visit to USO and the PBH was terrible....well the first hour anyway. We booked a bayview non smoking room. We checked in and were brought to our room. This disgusting, filthy, smelly (piss and smoke) room. We took our bags and went back down to the check in desk and did not even waste time speaking to a clerk behind the desk, we asked for the manager. We nicely told him that if he does not change our room, please check us out, refund our money and call a cab because we will not be staying and will never return. We were given a suite!

We have returned many times after that and have always had a great experience.

Whenever we encounter crappy service which happens everywhere for no apparent reason - we always go directly to the manager, that is the only person that can really fix anything. First thing to remember is to never ever call....always go down to the desk and don't waste your time talking to a clerk, insist on the manager. Don't unpack until you are happy with the room. Always go down to the desk with your luggage too, since you will be moved, you will need to hae it with you anyway. Keep in mind resorts are rarely ever 100% booked. There are always rooms available.

I don't get the name tag thing :confused3 If you are a CM, why would you be wearing your name tag while on vacation?? Do CM's stay in the resort while working???
