Baby and the Tramp...and a Pop (half) Century! Where Did It Go???

He says safely....all the way from CANADA!!!!

And you wil notice it was an early moring post. I have to leaver earlier to beat all the traffic moving acroos the bridge. We do have one ramp open this morning so that should start to help. Hopefully by Monday the water level will have dropped enough to re-open the rest.

Hope your field days are fun, accident-free, and warm.

hmm - maybe I better rethink my plans. I was thinking of volunteering to help at field day at my DD's school. Maybe not now :lmao:

Do it! Go and film it all to watch and show later. We always talk about how we should do that to let people see what really goes on in school!

It's nothing like the Beaver Cleaver days where they all sit quietly in their desks and speak only when spoken to. If Miss Landers caught those kids chewing gum, there were oooh's and aaah's all around. And, of course, there was a meeting of the children right outside the classroom door of what the consequences would be when the parents found out.

Fast forward to today, when the kids will blow a bubble and pop it in your face as they roll their eyes at you. The meeting in the hall is about what they're going to do to you, and that's often the parents doing the talking!!!

It's a fun job. I keep telling myself that.

Really, it used to be 90%-10% good to bad, but every year it gets a little worse. I could write volumes, but I have to go get a cooler filled with ice. I come to the Dis every chance I can throughout the day to reclaim my sanity. It's nice to have Disney pictures and Disney friends as my escape.

If I ever don't touch base for a while, you'll know they have me tied up with duct tape somewhere behind the bookshelf.
Come and rescue me, please!!!

Are you Dising from your car????

Watch the road, mister!

I had to laugh at your description of field day. At the day care where I used to work we had days when the childrens family could come in for special activities. Well needles to say it was always chaos and the worst behaved children were always worse when their parents were there. I didn't work there long because one of the "rules" we teachers had to follow was that we could not tell a child the word no. It was awful. I find there is nothing wrong with telling your child no. And they wonder what is wrong with society these days. I found another job as fast as I could.

Ahhh yess, field day. Between field day and standardized testing.. I really don't miss teaching too much. Being a special ed teacher, I always volunteered to take the overstimulated child with ADHD back to my classroom because he didn't understand it wasn't good sportsmanship to headbutt his friends.

I hope the day passes quickly and there is a Happy Hour activity for the teachers at the end of the day. You CERTAINLY need it!

Oh yes MeMom - you really make me want to take one of my vacation days and go to that insanity. And what you don't know is I work for a police department (jail and all) and have for almost 32 years and what you describe almost sounds worse than I've had to deal with here! :scared: I'll definitely have to think about this a little more.

Midday update:
One broken arm, one cut foot, one bruised ego.
One grape juice spill.

We're to the stuffing-hamburgers-in-desk part right now.
We're having an indoor picnic, because it started raining when we were leaving our last station.

So far, the parents that I have here are all helpful and cooperative.
Maybe it really is a magical day!

Everyone send good thoughts my way today.
This is Field Day.

Oh, what fun, you say!
And fun it should be.
Games of skill. Sportsmanship. Laughter. Families spending time together in harmony.

I will dissect it for you from a teacher's view.

:rotfl: Now I know why several former teachers I know seem to have permanent tics that kick in whenever they get too close to a screaming group of children. I was on the substitute teacher list for a year and taught a number of days ... long enough to stand in respect and honor of any teacher (except for one or two of my Jr High teachers, but that's another story!!) who goes back day after day!! I salute you MeMom!!!!!:worship: Hope you survive the day with your sense of humor intact. Here is some pixiedust: from me to you!!!!

:goofy:

That doesn't sound like a bad day. All you teachers do is complain. ;)

I'm about to PM Ma.

Something about bonking you on the head when you come home tonight.

It's called revenge by proxy.

Now Rain has brought it's big brothers Thunder and Lightning.
Field Day has become Inside the Rooms Day.
Many parents are taking their kids home.
My students are playing board games, signing t-shirts, and coloring.
They can actually be fun when you're not trying to cram knowledge into them.
We'll probably try to watch a movie in a little while.

Ahh... yes. How is it that, even in a summer of drought field day is planned for the one rainy day of the year. Hopefully, the kids that go home with their moms and dads make it an enjoyable afternoon for you and the kids that are left.

Thanks for reminding me why I loved field days each year. On the middle school level we had to beg parents to help out on special days, but it was still an adventure. Plus we had the problem of at least one "couple" on each grade level would break up(crying girl) followed by group hugs :grouphug: by all the friends.

So tonight put your feet up and watch the Travel Channel at 9:00 and dream of your next trip with Your family. :happytv: popcorn::

This is my field day. Don't forget the kid who yells out loud to another class "YOU SUCK". He's always my fav.

She lives! Good to hear from you. I know a lot of people don't come on the boards unless they're getting close to a trip, but I'm here every day, and we miss you guys when you're not around!

Yes, we'll be at Pop again on the 28th of June. We had the first two days planned out, and then Jill unraveled that with her discovery that our first two days are the last two days of Star Wars weekends. We are not SW people, but seeing Mickey and his pals in any different costumes does thrill us, so now the second day has been changed from Epcot to Hollywood Studios.

We had a nice morning at Opry Mills when we met up with VandyFan10. We'll put up pictures and tell about it later.

hi,
I could be naughty or nice.

I remember having field day in my school.

great update and pics.

missed u at the dismeet, but I guess u r a little far.

BrooklynnsMommy posting this (I had already typed it and saved it through Memom's account somehow)

Happy Tres de Mayo!!!!!

This morning Memom, Brooklynn, and I were meeting VandyFan10 at Opry Mills. Memom, Brooklynn, and I arrived a little early. Brooklynn was on stroller duty and made sure Beast stayed seated at all times.

Then it was inside to ride the carousel. One problem, the carousel didn't open until 10:00 and it was only 9:50. Brooklynn tried her hardest to squeeze through the fence, but her chunky thighs just couldn't make it through.

MeMom tried to occupy her by asking her which horse she wanted to ride. The conversation went something like this...

"Do you want to ride the white horse with green and yellow?"

"Yea!"

"Do you want to ride the white horse with pink and yellow?"

"Yea!"

"Do you want to ride the white horse with blue and purple?"

"Yea!"

Brooklynn didn't care which horse she rode she just wanted to ride.

Finally it was 10:00 and the girl in the booth changed her sign to open and we bought our ticket. Brooklynn and I saddled up as Memom took pictures.

Erica walked up as the horses started going around and around and up and down.

After our ride we decided to head to the Disney Store. Brooklynn took off leading the way, but got sidetracked several times. Once was due to the fact she saw WATER! (I know you can't believe my child, the half mermaid found water)

She saw a fountain made out of tools in a store window and had to go touch it.

We stopped by the Rainforest Cafe where Brooklynn was very concerned about the large hippo out front. We decided to take a group picture which of course Memom volunteered to take.

We continued on to our destination. Erica and I were walking ahead and reached the Disney Store before Memom and Brooklynn could see it. I turned around and told Brooklynn to hurry. She let go of Memom's hand and ran saying "Mickey" the whole way.

We shopped for a while and bought several t-shirts. When we got to checkout I started a small scene with my monorail shirt. The cashier who checked me out got on her walkie talkie and called a guy in the back to come see it and he called another guy to come see it.

We also got a happy surprise when we found out we now get a 15% annual passholder discount at the Disney Store!!!

Brooklynn found water one more time before we parted ways.

We had a great time meeting Erica and hope to meet again one day.
