I may have mentioned before that I get up pretty early. This was my first morning walk around All Star Sports. It was very quiet and peaceful. I thought the lifeguard tower looked especially cool.
Did you notice my big head shadow on the ground?
The lines were not too long.
Aaah...my favorite - the fruit bowls.
I went back to the room and waited for Jill and Brooklynn to get ready. We headed off to Magic Kingdom to take a monorail to Poly. We had never had Tonga toast, and we had decided this would be the day. I took a picture of the Grand Floridian from the monorail station. We're going to go over there at Christmas to see all the decorations.
Do you know what a claustrophobic's worst fear is?
I am claustrophobic. Put me on the highest mountain and make me look down. It does not bother me one bit.
Snakes? Whatever.
Spiders? I scoff at them!
But please, please, please...do not make be in a place - be it elevator or whatever, where I cannot walk freely out at my own will. I take the steps whenever I can, and on the rare times I take the elevator, I have to talk myself through it the whole time. The doors never open fast enough for me.
While we were on the monorail to the Poly for Jill's birthday breakfast, my worst fear came true. The monorail stopped!
Lights out. Total silence. We were the only ones in our car, and we were all the way at the back. A voice came over the speaker. Through a blur of sound I heard something to the effect of this, "We are experiencing (some kind of) difficulties. It will be necessary for us to turn off the monorail for approximately one minute to reset the system."
That was what was said.
This is what I felt: "Trapped Guests, We regret to inform you that the monorail is broken. You will sit on this rail within closed doors and windows for a very long time. No one will come to check on you. Slowly, you will take up all the oxygen in your car, and you will be gasping for air. We hope you have enjoyed your stay at Disney's Magic Kingdom."
I can assure you it took either more than one minute to reset the system, or it was the record-setting longest minute in history.
I tried to be cool and calm for Brooklynn's sake, so I just talked the whole time.
I'm not a big talker, but since whatever I was saying could very well have been my last words before I had a panic/heart attack and croaked on a Disney monorail, I figured I better get a word or two in quickly.
The words were nothing profound.
I didn't will anything to anyone.
I didn't give any last great advice.
If I had really croaked right there on the Disney monorail, my last words would have been, "I hope they know we're back here. Do they know we're back here? Nobody else is back here but us. This is a really long one minute."
And since I could not possibly, for my own sake, leave this post at us being stuck, because even as I write this I have to take really big breaths, I will close with this:
the beautiful OPEN AIRY lovely Polynesian lobby! We did live to eat our Tonga toast, which you will see very soon.
