August 2010 Code watch

But your chances of being 'locked out' of a given resort are actually GREATER if you have a booking NOW than if you have no booking at all!

(This is the crux of what I'm trying to get across)

It's counter intuitive because most people think that having a reservation at the resort means they can automatically convert that reservation to the promo.

And that is just not true.

You can only convert your reservation based on availability of the promo at the resort for the dates you picked.

By virtue of already having a room booked, you have effectively skewed Disney's perception of the amount of bookings they already have for that travel window... which effectively reduces the amount of rooms Disney is likely to offer on the promo you want to switch to.

(All of this is : Provided you call to make the reservation at the same time you would have called to switch an existing reservation and in both cases you ask for the same resort.)

There have been years, 2008 springs to mind where the amount of rooms at Pop Century (cause this is the one I remember) were VERY limited for most weeks during the promo. Oh the wailing and the gnashing of the teeth on the boards about THAT! Many folks were disappointed and a lot of them had to switch either their travel dates (and ADRs they had so carefully made months before) ... or switch to another resort that wasn't even their second choice.

All that could have been avoided if fewer people had booked in anticipation of the promo and Disney had a more accurate take on how many empty rooms they really had at Pop Century.

As it turned out that year (If I am remembering this right) Disney later issued a different promo in July or August that included P/C to burn up all the rooms that got dumped by hopeful F/D bookers.

I really want to say I'm not 'fighting' here.. but REALLY trying hard to explain this concept. I'm not now and won't ever be a F/D guest. So I have no dog in this fight.

I work in radio and our annual ratings period (very important) goes from September 1 to October 30 every year. So F/D will NEVER be an option for me because we're never allowed vacation during that time. I got an exception from my boss for the closing of Pleasure Island. I'm such a geek.

It's a losing battle. I know. But maybe.. just maybe.. one of these years.. :)

You're most definitely right about this being a communication issue from Disney, CG. When I called and got details from a CM, I specifically asked if I could make the reservation now, start making my ADR's, and then add FD if and when the promo was released, and he said "absolutely, and in fact, I would recommend doing that." No mention whatsoever about any possible downside!

You are absolutely correct. Disney could FIX all of this drama with good training of their phone staff.

Again they don't... They have terrible training (or terrible retention of that training - take your pick) for the CM's on the phone. Not a big surprise there. These are the same folks who will tell you :

- Yes of course you can use any pool at ANY Disney resort
- Yes you can bring your mug from 2004 and use it again.
- Yes Magical Express will pick up for the Swan/Dolphin.
- Yes, you will have time to make your ADR at France in Epcot if you leave MK about 10 minutes before your ADR on the monorail.

It's very frustrating.

Some CM's are great and provide Fantastic information. Others.. will tell you that Fantasmic runs 2 x a night 7 nights a week all year long.

:rolleyes1

Of course they're going to tell you ANYTHING to get that booking while you're on the phone. Because that's their job... to meet the quotas and try to get every booking they can from the calls they receive that day. I wouldn't say that they would outright lie.. but they probably will bend the truth/reality somewhat.

Something to keep in mind.

Again - you can make all your ADR's without ANY reservation.. just a few days later than you can with a complete reservation..

Just sayin :)

Like I said in my earlier post...I understand the debate. I fully understand what Canadian Guy is saying, but....

If one made a reservation before booking they would have to pay in full for some restaurants. Our crew is going to CRT(11 people, $50 a piece) and HDDR(13 people, $60 a piece). That's over a thousand dollars...just to make two reservations! I would then have to wait for a refund after using my dining plan credits.

It's a matter of economics. I would rather spend $400 on booking than $$$ making reservations.

Some situations are unique and I firmly believe your booking was handled the best way. Large groups are their own beast when it comes to booking.

As I'm sure you WELL know by now! :thumbsup2

I was booking my ressies using the 20/30/40 pin code. During the reservation process the CM says, "this is a good discount, but I bet FD will be better for your family, just call back when FD is announced to have your reservation adjusted". No, prompting by me. In fact I was already using a code.

I certainly hope given the size of your party and the ADR's that there is room availability at your resort choice for the dates. I truly do.

Are you able to be flexible on your resort choice / dates / or room category if there isn't?

:goodvibes Nice to know someone feels my pain. lol I must be crazy for leading this adventure.

Waiting and praying for an August 20/30/40. I was originally taking my DD to Universal/WDW for her 13th in July but completely forgot about several commitments that can't be changed. DH has a union convention for the fire deptout in SAn Diego in Aug which would be a perfect time for me to head to the world with the kids. I crunched all the numbers and for us the (hopefully) 40% @ a deluxe resort would work out better.

I tihnk I am crazy attempting to take 4 kids to WDW by myself but stranger things have happened. LOL

I know it's getting closer but the waiting is KILLING me. I just wish they would announce what they are doing so we can all get on with our planning and our lives. Sorry I sound so grumpy. The weather here has been miserable and won't get any better till Tuesday (maybe) and I'm not seeing anything on FD anywhere. I just need something to cheer me up like maybe cheap airfare sale or something. PLEASE :worship::worship::worship:

I know what ya mean cart-mom! I couldn't wait any more, so I went ahead and made a few ADR's today! Booked O'Hana, LeCellier, and Crystal Palace (got 12:45 PM lunch on our first full day in the Parks, which is ALWAYS a MK Day!). Very happy just to have a start on things with three of the ressies we really wanted.

Once they announce FD and we book our trip (yeah, I know....IF they do the FD, but they will...they must....they have to!! :)), we'll book a couple Signature ressies and Hoop De Doo. Then we'll just go with the flow for the rest of the trip so we're only tied to ressies about half the time.

I did the same thing yesterday. Lecellier, Crystal Palace, and Chef Mickey's. We're going to go 8/30-9/5 and I'm hoping friday night will be a halloween party, so I wanted CP before it. I figure if free dining comes out, it might be hard to get on a party night. The online adr system seems to work great. But of course now that I'm planning, I'm going to get the dining plan no matter what now.

I am gonna go book this week !! I really need FD but will book anyway and just keep fingers crossed !! I actually will be able to make some adrs right away I think!!

Booked for August 15th - 22nd. Waiting patiently for a code!!! I cant wait! :yay::dance3::rolleyes1popcorn::

Thanks! We just booked our August trip, 15th-21!!!! We booked two 2 BR villas at Bay Lake Tower for a grand gathering of 9. We applied a PIN to one of the rooms for 40% off. GREAT price. However there were not 2 rooms available at the PIN rate, so we booked the 2nd one off the rack. We're hoping that my DH and I will get a bounceback offer when we go down in a few weeks and we can apply that to the second room. I hope that works - as anyone ever tried anything like that?

Hmmmm...that sounds "off" to me...call back and try again, different cm, different day, different result maybe :confused3 BEST of LUCK!!! :wizard: I really try to make it a policy to NOT go without some type of break, too many other options out there....;)

Most of the rumors I am hearing lead up to a long wait for us. Eventually something will come out, I have to keep confident.
