~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

My two cents on the LTT issue is this: I would make an ADR for arrival day/night. If you're going to be totally overwhelmed with food the other day it seems like a much wiser choice. Plus, if you do order Gatorade and snacks you can have a snack in your room or maybe go grab some fruit and have a granola bar and fruit? I am big fan of snacks in the room and in my park bag. I was going to say I have a toddler but I was a fan before the toddler was in the picture! Better safe than sorry!

How on earth could the girls be sick of talking about Disney? :rotfl: That's what we're here for!

We did the dessert party about a year ago. It was a great place to see the fireworks, however, I don't think that the desserts were exactly up to par. They have a photographer that will take pictures and out them on your photo pass. There were a lot of people that staked out a spot along the railing prior to the fireworks beginning. That was a bit annoying.

We also tried Chef Mickey's during that trip. It was delicious!!! I would highly recommend it. Have you ever tried Rose and Crown? We have a tradition of getting a 7:30 reservation and staying to watch Illuminations. We always request a patio seat. Sometimes you have to wait a few extra minutes but it is well worth it. The food is really good also.

Looking forward to more Disney updates. You really should not keep that all bottled up. ;-)

I have never sent anything to the resort but I think Chiara has used Garden Grocers (spelling???) a few times. It makes sense to me to bring some snacks if you are getting a delivery. Maybe some granola bars or something you can stick in your bags. We always eat cereal in our room for breakfast but are usually too tired and stuffed for an evening snack. I would advise against eating in bed but eating in the room is fine.

Glad to hear you got some good swung done yesterday. Yuck on the snow. It was chilly and windy here yesterday but I never complain about the weather in GA since it is always better then snow. Curtis stayed inside for recess yesterday because it was too cold, it really wasn't that cold but I am sure there were lots of kids with no coats and shorts on since it was warm on the weekend.

Good morning, D!

I'll give you a few rambling thoughts about food and ADRs . . . when I am planning our WDW meals, one of the driving forces for me is to eat what I can't get at home. So, if you can get good German food where you live, do you also have access to a nice French restaurant? If not, I would go with Le Chefs. To me, table service dining at WDW is an experience as much as it is sustenance. We've eaten at Le Chefs a couple of times and it was wonderful, and also an experience - once Grace Ellen wanted to sub her entree's side item and the waiter said he would have to go check with the chef. We looked a little puzzled. He came back in a few moments and said no, the chef said no! I guess it wasn't "right" with the meat she ordered? :snooty: Fussy French chefs at their best. :rotfl2: Another time we had a GORGEOUS waiter whose name was Jacques or something and I could have just sat there and listened to him talk with that dreamy French accent, no food required. :cloud9:

Choosing restaurants is such a personal taste thing - everybody says Teppan Edo is not worth it if you have a hibachi restaurant near you, but we don't have a local hibachi restaurant since we live in the sticks, and love going there. Ditto The Garden Grill in the Land; we love it and think it's a great, relaxing meal. We are done with Chef Mickey's; we don't like buffets in general and the packed-in tables, :crowded: mediocre food, and chaos is not for us anymore since my kids are older.

Also, when I think about you going in August, you are NOT going to want a bunch of heavy meals in that heat. So I would limit myself to one sit down meal a day, if you can. I remember one trip, just after Pop had opened and the dining plan was new and included appetizers and tips, my kids BEGGED me to never again plan so many meals in one trip. :crazy2:

Random:

I don't think the dessert party is all that, and I'm a gigantic sweets person.

Great idea to ship water/gator ade. I would begin stalking the Walmart website in hopes of scoring free shipping. We've done this in the past with great results.

Have you considered shipping a box of stuff (clothes, toiletries, etc.) to limit the amount of checked baggage? :scratchin It's not that hard to do. In fact, have you considered getting a Fedex account (and special pricing) for your bag business? That would make it so easy to ship stuff to WDW and back home. IIRC from my ex-husband's business, negotiated rates are about half the published rates for shipping. :teacher:

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. :goodvibes

Having an ADR the first day wasn't stressful at all. I read somewhere on here that you should plan 5 hours between touchdown at Orlando airport and your first ADR. I followed that rule on the trip with my Mom and we had way more time than we needed. We actually got to Epcot almost 2 hours before our ADR.

On my solo trip I made my reservations for dinner so I had hours and hours before the ADR. I know you probably don't want to do dinner for LTT since the menu is different from lunch.

I would just make the reservation and if you feel you are rushing too much to get there just cancel it. I wouldn't worry about hoarding ADRs since LTT doesn't fill up like some of the other restaurants.

I've been reading a lot of threads about shipping to our resort. Normally, I wouldn't do this, but I need to find a way to get some Gatorade to us in Florida. I think I may ship from either Walmart or Amazon. I am a bit hesitant to do this, because that Gatorade will be heavy, but I don't know how else to do it, and by doing it that way - it's pretty economical. Now, I am trying to decide, if along with the Gatorade, I should ship a few snacks? We were pretty OK with out snacks last time, but there were a few times we were in our room at the end of the night with munchies and we didn't feel like running down to the food court. We survived, but it's something I am consdering. Nothing major, but just a couple items?

I go to WalMart once a week email me a list before coming down, save delivery fees, pay me when you see me...no fuss no muss NOT going out of my way I promise :)

OK now we need prayers for Maxine, I got home last night and she LIMPED over to me when I went out to say hello, I swear it's the same leg as me :faint: ( and Alli if I'm not mistaken?..the right one )

I found no cuts, no obvious injuries picked up her hooves best I could (we must have been quite a sight) so the farrier (hoof guy for non-horse people) will be here at 6 I am praying it is nothing but a stone bruise or something really really minor :sad2: I can take pain but heartbreaking when its an animal SO wish I was Dr Doolittle ...will let you know later, if I don't get back here then really pray hard because that will mean the next visit is the vet

The girls have asked me to stop talking about Disney for a while... :( So, don't be surprised if I start doing multiple Disney planning updates every day, because it's bad to lock it all up inside - you know? :rolleyes1

I am super excited because I ordered a couple of really fun accessories from a FB friend... I can't wait to get them... Not sure if I will show you all now, or wait for our TR... But I am very excited about them!

OK - I think that's all of my trip ramblings for now... popcorn::

I hope you all have a wonderful day... and I hope everyone is recovering from everything going on in your lives... I've been thinking and praying for all of you.

D~

Oh those poor girls of yours being bombarded with plans of the best vacation of your life! :rotfl2:

I am actually considering shipping down this time too! I was planning to ship some water and snacks from walmart and just keep my eye out for free shipping. I think the Gatorade is a great idea and I will get some this time. We will be in Florida so we can pick up water and snacks, but if I'm running short on bag room, I'm going to have to ship stuff down and bac (Hopefully not! I do have the biggest suitcase ever but it is always at capacity! ) if you come home with an extra bag, do you pay for it in cash at the airport? like we get one checked bag, 1 carryone and 1 purse for free, additional bags have to be checked. I'm wondering if I have an extra bag when do I pay for it. My boss is paying my flight and I don't want them to get billed for it, if by chance I somehow decided to pick up a mickey suitcase or something..... :rotfl::rotfl:

I looked into garden grocer last time and it was pretty pricy.

I think............
your going to be very busy eating and not enough time for the parks.

Is there a problem with this?? :confused3 I don't see it.

I think you've said that every day for the last 2 months...

Yeah but.....I really mean it this time. Told Bradey and everything. Now he will kill me if I go back on my word!

Okay, so I just had an idea...and I am not an expert on the dining plan by any means, so tell me if I am wrong. You are getting the refillable mugs, right? You get a bottle drink from the coolers with a QS meal included in your DDP, right? I saw on Andre's site that they have Vitamin Water and Powerade in Sassagoula's....can you just grab one of those each morning with your breakfast and drink from your refillables?? And if you don't want to carry an extra bottle around in the park and have it be warm when you drink it....like I mentioned before, you can just get free ice water and bring along the Gatorade single serve powder packs. That's what we do....less to carry is always my plan :thumbsup2

Gosh, all these people dissing my beloved Dessert Party! I loved the desserts there, and didn't have a problem with people getting up by the railing...there is plenty of room for everyone. And yes, I forgot to mention to you that they have a photopass person there through the whole party and it is a great shot! Even if I was just having the sweet tea and sitting, relaxing, watching the castle turn colors, it would still be worth the $25 price tag for me! But everyone has different experiences, I know that.

WAIT! Stop the presses....they have SWEET tea? I thought it was just iced tea.... If that is the case...then my husband will LOVE the fact that I just booked it for the first time for our short June trip!

I call it sweet tea....it is sweet iced tea. I think it's probably the same stuff they have in the food courts...Gold Peak, right? I'm sure it is not the authentic "southern sweet tea", but it tasted pretty good to me. They had hot coffee, tea, cocoa and some juices and the sweet iced tea. The only way I drink iced tea is sweetened...no lemon...so if I drank it, and I did, it had to be sweet. And it was super duper hot out that night, so I know it wasn't the hot tea ::yes::

Oh RuthIE i hope it's nothing!!!

Ruthie I hope the horse is ok.

Ok WONDERFUL Farrier came early and its an abcess she'll be ok...I in tears this morning went to church after P/T I'm no martyr but I love her so whispered I would gladly take on her pain.....:crazy2:

after the bottom of her hoof was incised/treated he had to ask her to stand on it so he could check opposite leg. Maxine: hmm..yeah right Stand on it ?? I am off and running on it BUT first I will knock you Michael on your butt & I will step on mom's good foot! :rotfl: After he caught her (as I was hobbling far far away) I then got stung on my right arm by a yellow jacket !

Hmmm. pain pill or wine ??? such decisions :confused3 Thanks you AGAIN for concern, love, care, prayers, bet I don't see 5 pm ! ZZzzzzzzzzzz

The ONLY place we have previously found that serves actual Sweetened iced tea (as opposed to iced tea that you have to add the sweetener to) in all of WDW is Tony's.

Thanks for the info...

Oh no RuthIE.....I am so sorry, I feel horrible that I am laughing at your pain....but seriously....:rotfl2:

Really??? They have had Gold Peak sweet tea at all the food courts I have tried (Poly, POFQ, POR) and I have seen it in pictures at AoA. I have heard some people say that it isn't real sweet tea, but I think it tastes great! :confused3

I have an ADR booked for our arrival day - dinner at Tony's. Our plane (yes, I finally made plane reservations since the price went down today) gets in at 10;30 am, so we will have plenty of time to check in and get over to the park. We did the same thing last time we went but ate at LTT. We may have to try LTT for lunch one day while we are there. I've been thinking about moving some of my reservations around, but I'm not sure just what I want to do yet. We are planning on doing the dessert party one night though, just waiting for the reservations to open up. I bought some light sticks for Charlie and me for the parades - I swear sometimes I think I really have 5 kids...

Speaking of which, I loved your comment about the love/hate relationship between your girls. Mine are the same way. I never know whether they are bffs or can't stand to be around each other. Two weeks ago they were on the outs, well at least Shannon was, Kate did not know about it at the time. Thank goodness they live in different cities. They are currently bffs again. I've learned to stay out of it as much as possible. I know they will make up eventually.

Sorry I haven't been around. My quilting group was here for a week for a retreat. I didn't seem to get much accomplished during that time, but I did have fun.

I told my dd Kate about Alli and her ankle and how she wouldn't stay off of it. Kate said she should talk to her about how important it was to let it heal.

I know there was more I wanted to comment on, but I can't remember right now.

Ruthie - I hope all is well with Maxine. Feet issues are not to be messed with, as I'm sure you know well.

OK - I just had to hop on real quick...

Praying Maxine is well now... I am so sorry that I didn't see your request for prayers for her earlier...

Sounds like you need the prayers now Ruthie... Sending them your way.

D~

I'm right there with the laughter. I went over the story with DH and he thought it was funny too. I've been stepped on by a horse, even though I'm no country girl OUCH! I'm sorry you got stung too. It's times like these that you have to think God has a sense of humor. Or at least irony.

Really??? They have had Gold Peak sweet tea at all the food courts I have tried (Poly, POFQ, POR) and I have seen it in pictures at AoA. I have heard some people say that it isn't real sweet tea, but I think it tastes great! :confused3

Oh, honey, Gold Peak is sweet and it is tea, but authentic Southern sweet tea it is not. You have to have true brewed tea with simple syrup and when DH figured out the proper amounts, you'd have thought he found the fountain of youth.:sad2: And neither of us are born southerners!

Speaking of southern...Sorry y'all still have snow. Today was 75 degrees and sunny here. But we're expecting rain tomorrow, if that makes you feel better. :rolleyes1
