When folks say that Disney is too expensive they may mean different things.
There’s the group that doesn’t have the budget to go to things like the nutcracker or Disney - so they aren’t objecting to the cost of Disney v. going to a ballet - for them it’s not a this v. that number.
Then there’s a cohort that can afford one or the other but not both - for them it’s a comparative valuation, would I rather spend $XXX on one ballet performance or on one day at WDW.
Then there’s the group that can afford both - I know for me when I say things like Disney is expensive what I really mean is that I’m paying more yet getting less value than I used to

. And DVC is an example of that - the cost per point to buy has grown exponentially, the pace of dues increases has picked up, the number of points needed to book villas at new resorts has shot up. The value proposition I was looking at when I first bought is quite different than what someone buying now sees.
Regarding cruises - I’ve really enjoyed the
DCL cruises I’ve been on, but IME, there are equally attractive options for an equivalent price w/ other lines, especially if you’re interested in traveling a bit further afield. I’ve only cruised about a dozen times, DCL would be my first choice for the Caribbean or Bahamas w/ children, but for Europe, DCL would not be my first choice.
