~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

Sooo....

Currently - we have a lunch ADR at France in Epcot. I've been wanting to try Chefs de France ever since Oopsi's review of it when she returned last year...

But... I just stumbled upon several reviews of Biergarten... This was a restaurant that Liddy and I were going to do together last year, but it never happened.

But the food here looks really good... Like - really good. Like - I am German (mostly)... and I live in a (very) predominately German town... We polka... We drink beer... We eat kraut... We have cuckoo clocks... You know... German...

It's very... Us.

France... Well, it looks tempting... but it's not really... Us.

:confused3

Seriously considering switching... Oh and the apple streudel with vanilla sauce... I can almost taste it now.

Anyone feel like offering opinions? :scratchin Any other ideas for an Epcot sit down meal? I am just not feeling France anymore... Not really wanting a character meal either... But I'd like something FUN - which it seems that Biergarten could be...

D~

We lived in Germany for two years. We LOVE the food. Biergarten is as close to authentic German food we have found outside Germany. In our last EIGHT trips we have gone to Biergarten each time!

This trip in December...we are trying to try different things... I had not added Biergarten to our list...My husband, oldest son, daughter in law, and all three kids complained! It is now back on the agenda.

So I guess my vote is....Biergarten!

Nini

I hope Alli gets well soon.
Sully looks so cute and cozy.
Looks like you have a great plan for your trip :cool1:

I knew Nini would give you the thumbs up for Biergarten. :) I think we will need to go there one day soon. My DH likes German food and beer but he is usually satisfied with the beer stand.

Happy birthday to Allie. I hope her ankle swelling goes down, those bruises look painful.

Hope you get to talk about Disney this weekend. I am happy to hear all about it! I think your switching of days to lower crowd numbers is a good idea. Your MK day with CRT and LTT sounds a little hectic but I am sure you can make it work. Do you think you will need a break with two sit downs that day? We don't usually make it past 9 pm or go in the heat of summer so I am not a good judge of how tired you will be. When we did CRT it took about 2 hours but there were 7 of us and one little princess lover. We had no plans for after dinner so we took our time. We did notice that other smaller groups were not there as long as us.

V looks so happy with Sully. Will he fit in her carry on?

I have been thinking about something while I was in the USA and the time after. I know that you in the USA has to have health insurance so you can be able to pay for health care. But how does people that give birth to a disabled child pay for the care of the child?

One of the reasons I have thought about this is because I have Cerebral palsy and I'm so glad that I live in a country where I can get the help and things I need to get through daily life. My insurance company have tried to sell me different insurances and when I tell them that I'm disabled they quickly say that I then can't get the insurance. Which I have known all the time.

I can't stop wonder how people in my situation that are born in the USA can pay for the aids they need.

Well I am not in any way shape or form German but I am the momma of 2 dachshunds :rotfl: Seriously I had lunch at Biergarten beginning of January
I remember my Dad raved about his time spent in Germany in the US Army and I have a whole scrap book of pictures of his ventures there So I had to go
LOVED it (the cheese beer soup alone is to die for!!) the entertainment is a hoot ! and I was in there for hours, I tasted nothing I would not rave about You eat family style & I shared a table with lovely people. I think so much of this restaurant that Fred & I have an ADR for dinner there when he's home in May

Your trip is really shaping up and sounds like a great time! You might find that you have a LOT of food that day. The table service are both great, CRT and LTT are both such fun places to eat. We've done the dessert party a couple of times and its beyond best for watching the fireworks. It's a lot of fun and there are lots of desserts. You might find it too much after just eating at the castle. How about just a breakfast and later lunch at the castle so you don't feel so stuffed? Or an early breakfast at the castle and lunch at LTT. You will have fun any way you do it.
Just to be different, we loved dinner at France and will do it on our next trip. We found the food very good and not TOO noisy.

Just a quick me update. I'm going back to work on Tuesday. I'm not sure how I feel about it but going back with a positive attitude and hope that I can work another 18 months to retire at age 65. After all, We have a BIG Disney trip to pay for in Oct. 2014!!!!

Have a great day ,happy birthday to Alli! Ruth

D~ to answer your question... we are all doing fine. I am feeling better. I am still suffering the migraines, but the vertigo has settled back to what is normal fo rme. Thanks for asking.
It was a very scary situation in the Boston & surrounding areas for awhile. But thank God it is settling down now. My son lives at school in Boston. I was a little nervous when I got the call from his school at 6am Friday saying classes were canceled for safety reasons. But, I was grateful he was in a gated campus, which actually locked the gates for a change.

You new plans look good. I am going ot have to settle ours down & see if we can meet up.

Dee Just wanted you to know that you & your family have been in my constant thoughts & prayers esp since Mon :flower3: Ruthie

Checking in from Virginia. Spent the last 3 hours reading Dis and checking emails. Haven't even begun to answer any. My trip out here was horrible. I won't go into detail, just suffice it to say God heard from me a lot that day! Have been having fun with the grandkids and working at packing up boxes that I just unpacked for Emily 8 months ago!! :faint:

I love that your plans are all coming together. I'm so happy you're staying at FQ. I just love that place. Here's a thought about the water parks: Why not just pay the single day pass price the day you go instead of adding water parks and more to your tickets? I believe it would be cheaper and that would make it more flexible in case it didn't work out for you to go for some reason. Also, you can still get rest in for that day since you can get everything done before lunch and just hit the favorites again after lunch. We usually are gone by 2:00 if we get there at opening. Teen-age girls may be a different story, though.:rotfl:

I've never eaten at Biergarten, but it sounds great. We do like Chefs de France, but you're the better judge of what you and the girls would like. We tried the Rose and Crown for the first time last year and really enjoyed it a lot. The servers were really friendly and efficient. And the food was yummy.

As for the day you have LTT, CRT and dessert party scheduled, I just reel at that much food so close together! Don't see how you'll be able to do all of them justice. One thing you may want to do is check into LTT way ahead of your ADR to see if you can get seated earlier, then share 2 entrees instead of each person getting their own. Just a thought.

So glad you took Allie back to the doctor. I hope she takes very good care of herself now and does as the doctor instructed. BTW, happy belated birthday to Allie!! Hope you guys had fun at MOA.

Dan is doing pretty well now, with minimal pain. Just went back to the doctor and things seem to be doing well. His shoulder is about the same, but it takes time to heal a pulled muscle...especially when you continue to use it..:rolleyes1 But in his defense, he really does try to take good care of it. Thanks so much for keeping him in your prayers!

Prayers for Ruth going back to work Tuesday and as always, Ruthie with the PT and other challenges.

Hope your auction goes well. :goodvibes

Nini

I was talking about this to Alli yesterday on the way to the MoA... And she is worried, because I've wanted to do France for so long, that I will regret changing it. :confused3 I understand her concern, but I really think that Biergarten is more our style? I am still not sure yet. :confused3

I hope Alli gets well soon.
Sully looks so cute and cozy.
Looks like you have a great plan for your trip

THanks Lillian!

I knew Nini would give you the thumbs up for Biergarten. I think we will need to go there one day soon. My DH likes German food and beer but he is usually satisfied with the beer stand.

Yah - for as German as I am, I can't stand the taste of beer... but give me a Reisling and... :thumbsup2

Happy birthday to Allie. I hope her ankle swelling goes down, those bruises look painful.

Thanks Liz!

I agree, I am just not sure what do do about it... The meals are HUGE meals, and they are so close together. I kind of like Lois' idea below, where we order two meals and split them between the 3 of us... But that is a lot of TIME too - not just dining credits. I guess we could sneak in to MK on another day (that isn't a park day) and have a dinner there, but that just locks us in to that plan. :scratchin

V looks so happy with Sully. Will he fit in her carry on?

I know... He just may be coming home for her Birthday!

I have been thinking about something while I was in the USA and the time after. I know that you in the USA has to have health insurance so you can be able to pay for health care. But how does people that give birth to a disabled child pay for the care of the child?

I can't stop wonder how people in my situation that are born in the USA can pay for the aids they need.

I am sorry Lillian, but I do not know the answers to this. I know it is very expensive for some, and I am not sure how it is done? Maybe someone will chime in and explain to you?

Well I am not in any way shape or form German but I am the momma of 2 dachshunds Seriously I had lunch at Biergarten beginning of January
I remember my Dad raved about his time spent in Germany in the US Army and I have a whole scrap book of pictures of his ventures there So I had to go

Oooh - this is good to know - you know how much I respect your opinion!

LOVE the Bambi set!!!!!! And your calendar!!! TOO CUTE!

Thanks Alicia! It's so nice to see you back on The Dis!

Your trip is really shaping up and sounds like a great time! You might find that you have a LOT of food that day. The table service are both great, CRT and LTT are both such fun places to eat. Or an early breakfast at the castle and lunch at LTT. You will have fun any way you do it.

I still don't know what to do about that MK day... You are right, it is a LOT of food - and it's such a short time span. I am tempted to get rid of LTT - but it's a family favorite... We LOVE their Freedom Pasta - and it's always such a welcome and looked forward to meal. The biggest problem with LTT is that we have their very earliest ADR, they don't open until 11:30, so we can't squeeze that one in there any earlier. And I don't want to do CRT much later, because we want time to tour between CRT and the dessert party. And I promised V that we would do CRT - she has even managed to come up with part of the cost of it, so that is one meal that I cant cancel. Sigh - I don't know what we are going to do. I am afraid - in the end - LTT might go... :scratchin

Just to be different, we loved dinner at France and will do it on our next trip. We found the food very good and not TOO noisy.

LOL - you would do that to me.

Just a quick me update. I'm going back to work on Tuesday. I'm not sure how I feel about it but going back with a positive attitude and hope that I can work another 18 months to retire at age 65. After all, We have a BIG Disney trip to pay for in Oct. 2014!!!!

Thank you for the update Ruth. I hope you are doing better and your employer has been good with you about missing work. Please keep us updated and I will continue our prayers. :lovestruc

Thank you for checking in Dee... I hope you return to feeling normal very soon.

I am so glad that things are settling down in Boston, I can't imagine how scary that must have been for all of you. I continue to keep all of you in my prayers.

You new plans look good. I am going ot have to settle ours down & see if we can meet up.

Thank you... I think our park days are pretty much done moving around now... I hope.

Checking in from Virginia. Spent the last 3 hours reading Dis and checking emails. Haven't even begun to answer any. My trip out here was horrible. Hi Lois! That is awful about your trip out - I hope your trip back goes much more smoothly. I am sure you are enjoying every moment with your dd and grandkids!

I love that your plans are all coming together. I'm so happy you're staying at FQ. I just love that place. Here's a thought about the water parks: Why not just pay the single day pass price the day you go instead of adding water parks and more to your tickets? Thanks! We are still beyond thrilled about FQ... We know we love it, but I guess we didn't realize how much we loved it until we were staying somewhere else. We are so happy to be going back... I keep looking at resort pictures and smiling - it is going to be wonderful!

Excellent idea about the water park passes... It is about the same price to add on the WPF&M as it is for us to buy single day passes (that's how Disney gets you, I guess)... So, we will see how it all works out for us. At least we've settled on a water park to visit. :thumbsup2

I've never eaten at Biergarten, but it sounds great. We do like Chefs de France, but you're the better judge of what you and the girls would like. We tried the Rose and Crown for the first time last year and really enjoyed it a lot. The servers were really friendly and efficient. And the food was yummy.

Unfortunately - that is another one I am considering... :scratchin I need to stop. LOL

I know - that is my biggest sticking point with those meals, as well... THere are so many factors that went in to planning that day... First of all - it's AM EMH... so I don't want to do an early morning breakfast ADR that would infringe on our valuable EMH time. But we want to leave the park right after lunch to take a break. We have our CRT dinner - which - IMO is at the perfect time for our evening plans. Then we are planning to meet Suzi and gang for the dessert party later in the evening. In the end, we may end up tossing LTT out the window. As of now - we are still over 1 ADR (2 if we decide not to do the water park and continue with our original plans of meeting Ruthie at Chef Mickey's)... But we LOVE LTT - it is one of our favorite and must do meals... And it must be lunch, dinner doesn't have the Freedom Pasta. Right now, we have the earliest available lunch time - which is 11:30... I dont' know, as much as it pains me, we may end up dropping LTT. If not, I do think that your idea of ordering 2 meals and splitting them between the 3 of us is a very good plan... So much so, that I would love to do that at other places... It could mean that we could have one more meal in there somewhere. But I will have to figure that out more in depth. Also... there's the waffle sandwiches in MK that I've been dying to try - but they are only available for a few hours every day... So, if we decided not to do LTT - we could do those waffle sandwiches. :thumbsup2 Crazy isn't it... How much planning goes in to making every trip amazing. :scratchin

So glad you took Allie back to the doctor. I hope she takes very good care of herself now and does as the doctor instructed. BTW, happy belated birthday to Allie!! Hope you guys had fun at MOA.

Thanks... She is doing much better with taking care of her ankle now. I will pass along the birthday wishes, as well.

Dan is doing pretty well now, with minimal pain. Just went back to the doctor and things seem to be doing well. His shoulder is about the same, but it takes time to heal a pulled muscle...especially when you continue to use it..But in his defense, he really does try to take good care of it. Thanks so much for keeping him in your prayers!

Thanks for the update on Dan, I am glad that things seem to be moving forward for him.

Prayers for Ruth going back to work Tuesday and as always, Ruthie with the PT and other challenges.

Hope your auction goes well.

Thank you!

First of all... I finished my custom order bag yesterday... I am very happy with how it turned out. It still scares me though. :scared: I plan to go up to my sewing room for a few hours this morning to begin work on one of my big auction bags. I really hope to complete 2 sets this week - that would be amazing and make my BIG auction more of a reality.

Allison and I had fun at the mall yesterday... She shops waaay differently than V does. V is simple... You go in to the mall, go to Hollister, load up on everything, check out, go home. Allison is my girly girl... Give her frills and ruffles all day long when she is shopping - but when it comes down to it... she is a shorts and tee shirt girl. :confused3 So, we had to go to every store and try on a milion things... :crazy2: But, I love her and we both had fun!

We didn't get home until dinner time last night, and we were exhausted!

Victoria make Allison's cake for today... She came up with an adorable idea, and she has been planning this for weeks... I love that Victoria is so giving or herself and her talents... :lovestruc

These are acutlly little cakes... She poured cake batter into the cones and baked them... then frosted them to look like icecream.

And, of course... My annual birthday photo posting... I cannot believe my first baby is 15 already... It's hard to imagine that these two little beings, are growing up to be my closest friends. I am so fortunate!

LOOVE the Biergarten. We've gone three or four times. I thought my picky DH would not find anything to eat, but he had plenty. By plenty I mean too much.

After I figured out what LTT is (We've eaten there and love it, but I tend to forget about it) and RuthIE posted the pasta recipe (you wouldn't happen to have the gravy recipe would you, RuthIE?) I think I'd drop that on a food heavy day. But we generally do one TS a day and wing it with CS (except for AK - then we skip breakfast and get BBQ as soon as it opens) So, our patterns are way different and you may just want to nod and smile at this point.

Ruth - good vibes for work.

Dee - As annoyed as I was at the coverage of the final standoff, I was so happy that Boston can finally get back to relative normalicy. And glad to hear your son was safe.

Everybody else: have a good rest of the day and may your week be smooth sailing.

Happy Birthday Alli :cheer2: :dance3: :cool1: :cheer2:

Sounds like you had a good shopping day with Alli even you had to go to every store and try on a milion things :)

I got a good answer on my qustion around health insurance in a PM. So don't worry about that one :thumbsup2

ALLears thanks for recipes

I just finished a mini-meeting with the girls...

1. Water park is chosen.

2. They have agreed to let me choose where to eat in Epcot... Clearly I am lamenting too much over it, and they are tired of listening to me.

3. We have made a final decision regarding Liberty Tree Tavern.

******************************************************************

In other trip related news...

I braved the "Disney Box" this morning - which was much too small and buried long ago... It really should have been renamed the Disney Pile (with a box in there somewhere...)

This (now named) Disney Pile holds many things... Anything travel sized (shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, deoderant, razors)... Disney customs... Disney pins that still qualify as "traders"... Disney Ears/Hats/Bows/Headbands - general head gear... Custom Bags & Travel Gear... New cheap sunglasses (must get for every trip)... Disney Ponchos... And anything else that I feel is Disney worthy...

So, I went through above said pile, and found the box. ;) Moved the box to the ottoman in our room and started organizing items that we plan to use on this trip for sure.

The girls still need to go through the hats/headbands/bows and decide what they are planning to reuse for this trip.

We sorted through our pin collection and decided which pins would qualify for "traders" this time around, and put our keepers with our other keepers (I am embarassed to say that this has not been done since our return last March...)

Of course... Josh had to comment that it's crazy I am packing 4 months in advance (insert whistling guy and annoyed guy here)...

Just wait until I drag the luggage up to our bedroom from the basement next week. ROFL.

******************************************************************

While sorting through the Disney Pile... I noted a few items that we must purchase for this trip... new socks (I do that for every trip anyways)... Sunscreen...

And - let's not forget, that I still need to find the time to make all of us a new bag... You would think - since that is what I do - we would have many really awesome bags for our own trips... but I am very sad to say that I just don't have the time. The way it is looking right now, I will have exactly ONE week (the week before we leave) to make all 3 of our bags... Sigh.

******************************************************************

Now... I must go help Josh create Alli's birthday dinner. :)

D~ <--- who wishes she could sneak Patience up to the lake for 4th of July...

Happy Birthday Alli!!!

Glad you've been able to figure out changes that will work for you guys!

Sorry I'm not very caught up this weekend but it's been a busy last few days for me. My DD goes to a co-op preschool and I have to work in a committee and I'm on the fundraising committee and last night we had the biggest event.... our auction!! Had to set up Friday night for about 4 hours, another 3 hours Saturday morning and then the event itself (which for me lasted about 6 hours!!) Not including all the collecting of donations that have been happening since the beginning of the year! Crazy day!!! We had a successful event and we should know within the next couple days how much we made for the school!
