I just took my first trip home to AKV. The rooms were really nice...quite roomy. I really loved how it was furnished. While there..we took the Wanyama Safari..Now the reason for my post... There are presently NO discounts available to DVC members on any of the safari tours. In fact..the only way you can take the other safari options is if you are concierge. Presently, the only DVC with concierge is AKV. So I emailed Member Services and they returned my call. THey said they really had not thought about this and will be interested in seeing how many members might actually be interested in taking these tours. The Wanyama was AMAZING! The animals were glorious and we got SOOO close to them! Then you go to JIKO for a fabulous tasting dinner with your fellow safari travelers! It was pricey and I would love to do it again..but would also love a discount. So if you agree..think about sending member services an email asking for DVC benefits/discounts now that we have DVC at the AKL!! THanks all!!

I did it! I sent them an email! I will send another one including a request for a discount! ;)

We did indeed get a discount on the Wanyama tour. It was $160 for concierge folks, but an additional $10 off for us because of DVC. We also got an additional $10 off the Sunrise Safari.

I took the Discovery Excursion tour in October and got the DVC discount for that tour.

I am happy to hear the rooms are nice at AKV. We are leaving May 11th for our first trip as DVC owners. It will be nice having a larger room (we have a 1 bedroom reserved) with having 3 kids. We can finally spread out a little. A studio was a bit crowded, especially since the kids are getting older. Are children aloud on the tours?

I have 2 big young men (18 and 20) and it was great that they each had their own bed. (The one bedroom has the open up sofa and the open up chair) . The bathroom was really a nice size as well. The only complaint I had was that you could sometimes hear the screams from Everest and the traffic from the nearby road! But the resort was beautiful and we really loved staying there.

That's what I thought...I also told member services there are so few DVC conceirge rooms that it is very difficult to get one. They did say that is true and they had not thought about it. That's why we need to let them know that non concierge DVC members should have access to the safaris and the discounts.

I have a hard time believing that the powers that be didn't "think about it" and realize that so few rooms would create such a high demand and difficulty in booking.

I thought that concierge (DVC and hotel) could pre-book and then if there were extra spots, other DVC and hotel guests could book upon arrival.

That is true of the sunrise safari. They take about 55 people for each sunrise and no more than 12 for each sunset one.

So with us staying in June if we wanted to try and get in on one of the safaris we can try? We were not able to book concierge the only thing that was availible was value. but we would love to go on one of the safaris.

That was exactly my problem...no concierge available! That is why I ended up emailing DVC because if you aren't concierge, the only one available is Wanyama with no discount!

Just a bump to see if my question can be answered.

You can book an afternoon safari as long as you're willing to pay about $50 for it than if you were in concierge.

I believe you can book the Waynama safari, but the price will be significantly more than if you are in concierge. We paid $150 for it in conceirge, but I believe it is $225 otherwise.
