FYI- To all parents. My son was walking up the stairs to the Mayan Temple slide and fell on the stone stairs. His injuries were extensive, two broken teeth, fractured upper jaw and split lip. He is a very tough young boy and handled it very well for the extent of his injuries. He is doing fine after a trip to the dentist(With mutiple follow-ups until the age of 16!), I mention this because the wet steps being made of stone and the cool temp along with the need to carry up a tube caused his fall. Please tell your children to take their time and keep those darn tubes to the side so if they do fall they can get their hands in front of them.

How awful! Were you on a Disney cruise at the time?
How were you able to get help for him right away?
How was the standard of care? Is there anyone liable for that?
Sorry to be so nosy.....but I'd sooner be prepared if something happens to one of mine on a cruise.
I truly hope that your son is feeling better, and sorry about all of the work he'll have to face in the future.

Yes we were on the Disney cruise, I rented a room at the Comfort Suites which gave us access to the Atlantis slides and pools. I was directly behind him when it occured and when I saw him stand up with a mouth full of blood and two broken teeth I was in shock myself. I was able to calm him as best as possible as another guest went for help. They directed me to a well equipped first aid station that was staffed with a RN that helped us stop the bleeding. I do not know if anyone is liable, besides Atlantis is located in a foreign country. We made a follow-up trip to the first aid staion on Castaway Cay, that is also well equipped and staffed by a RN as well, and she said everything was ok. The way I look at it God was looking after him, he could have broken a wrist or even knocked his eye out.

Sorry to hear of your son's injuries. Luckily kids are so resiliant they often deal with these things better than the adults that worry about them do. Despite the fact that Atlantis is in another country, they are responsible for injuries that occur on their property, especially if it was due to their negligence. Slippery stone stairs and bare children's running feet sound like an accident waiting to happen. Since your son's follow up care is likely to be both extensive and expensive, I do hope you have consulted a lawyer to make sure Atlantis is doing their part to make things right.
