Atlanta, have you made your milk & bread run?

Hmmm, I just checked and we are down to about a 1/2 gallon of milk. The horrors! I must hit Publix tomorrow morning~ Salt, milk, wine and cereal.:goodvibes And maybe some chocolate candy

Hmmm...I think this might be my list, too! :rotfl:

I had planned earlier in the week to pick up some groceries anyway this afternoon once I finished with work, and the place was already hoppin'! I live up in northern Georgia, so we're hoping for a significant snow! We got four inches on Christmas day and had a blast. My kids are sleeping with their PJ's inside out this weekend. . .and I might join them!!:cool1::cool1:

That reminds me. I need to get salt for the driveway. Every time it freezes the SLIGHTEST bit, my driveway turns into a solid sheet of ice.

 Holy cow, that's reassuring.

Try kitty litter....it seems to work better than salt.

But kitty litter doesn't melt ice like ice melt does , does it? it is just used for traction?

Reason I am asking. I live in Va, and we may possibly will get "good amount " of snow. The day after Christmas, my city had 14 inches. I doubt anyone has ice melt left in stores, as we are supposed to get a flurry tonight. BUt I have some big ol bag of kitty litter.

They're predicting 6-10" in Birmingham, and y'all, that will shut us DOWN.

DH is at the store for milk right now! :lmao:

Actually, we normally keep enough stuff in the house that we don't have to participate in the "bread and milk frenzy" but this week has been crazy and I haven't been to the store at all. We're down to our last gallon of milk. (we normally keep 3-4 in the fridge, as we go through about a gallon a day. Usually I go for more when we are "down" to two. I didn't have time yesterday).

I told DH to get FIVE - lol. He said he's hoping they have some left.

What's really sad is that I was supposed to be off work Monday, but I took pity on a co-worker who is a huge Auburn fan, and I'm working for him Monday night. If there's 8-10 inches of snow and ice on Monday, I'm not going to be happy. (don't worry - I won't be mad at my co-worker. It's not his fault. Plus he traded me for Sunday, so I think he's got the worst end of the deal).

Here's hoping they're wrong!

I went to the Wal-Mart in Gardendale on my way home today and you would have thought it was the day after Thanksgiving. I wasn't thinking about the weather and just stopped to do my weekly grocery run. I ended up only getting enough for a few days and decided I would go later next week for more. I had to get out of there.

I was in line to check out and was standing next to a manager who was checking people out and he said they had everyone who knew how to work a register on them and they were still about 10 people waiting in each line. They had over 30 registers going.

I couldn't believe how many people had 3 or 4 loaves of bread and 2 or 3 gallons of milk. I had stopped at Target on my way home yesterday and picked up milk so I luckily didn't have to buy any. I get home and the kids have almost drank the entire gallon so now I have to go tomorrow and get one. :scared1:

You are nicer than I am. I have a rule for DD12 and DM77: When a storm is coming. I tell them this will be my last grocery stop before it comes, I will not go out the day before and fight crowds because they "want" somehting' or didn't conserve something when I said to.

Well, it looks like *I* will be going to WalMart when I get off work. (it's the only thing that will still be open that late).

DH just called; he and DD14 got rear-ended in the traffic. :sad2:

They are both okay, thank goodness. He said the traffic was terrible and that he was actually totally stopped and the person behind him hit them, going only about 10mph. The airbags didn't deploy or anything. He said the car will need work though, but it's still drivable. He said they did get pushed forward, but didn't hit the people in front of them.

DD is shaken up. She has been all gung ho about getting her permit this year. We've been telling her that driving is serious and you have to watch the people around you. I guess she'll believe us now (not that DH could have done anything to avoid this happening, but some things can be avoided if you're alert to the drivers around you).

Thank goodness they are ok. how scary!!!!! Fridays and a snow "event' coming bring out twice amount of dumb drivers.

LOL.. Here in upstate NY it started snowing this morning and by the time it winds down on Sunday night, we should have anywhere from 5 to 9 inches.. For us that's pretty much nothing, but DD's MIL rushed out this morning and bought enough food to last a month..;)

Last night was DD's regular grocery night - so she and her DH went and purchased what they normally would - just like any other grocery trip..

Even if we have a "major" storm this year, we're feeling pretty confident since my Dson-in-law purchased that large generator just towards the end of last winter.. We'll have heat; lights; t.v.; coffemakers (his and mine ;) ); stove; fridge; microwave; freezer with lots of food out in one of the garages (lots of bread - LOL) - so really no worries here..:thumbsup2

I do feel bad for people who aren't used to this kind of winter weather though.. It has to be frightening for them and I can see how panic would set in easily and people would be rushing to the grocery stores and such..

Hope everyone stays safe - and that the storm isn't as bad as what they are predicting now..
:goodvibes

Also BIG Aubun fans We already took TUE off, Beer goes with football you know! If we get snowed in on Monday that would be a GREAT long weekend!
After all of the Holiday activities, and family staying at our house we'd love to have a few days to our selves.

Forget about bread and milk...make sure you have beer, gin, tonic, limes, and chips and dip.

We did a beer/wine run today food tomorrow, we have our priorties in order :lmao: The important thing is we have catfood, with 6 cats in the house, 4 of our own and 2 fosters, can't afford a mutiny :scared1:

Apparently so! DH said she wasn't on her phone, but she apparently just wasn't paying attention. :sad2:

He said she already had one car door that was a different color from the rest, so that doesn't make a good impression of her previous driving record. (I know I shouldn't judge - she could have bought the car used in that condition, or the other wreck could have been someone else's fault). At least she has insurance! And thank goodness she wasn't going any faster.

s

that is the way to do it!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, did I just hear that right? Did 11Alive just say we could get 10-12 INCHES? :scared1: Yowsa. We haven't had that much snow since th blizzard of 1993. If we get even 4 inches, we will be socked in here. There is little road clearing equipment here and lots, LOTS of hills. Both our cars have 4-wheel drive, but I'm pretty sure we won't be going much of anywhere.

Hmm, okay, we need salt, milk, wine, cereal, chocolate, nachos and salsa :thumbsup2

To all of my fellow Dis'ers expecting this snow, whether you are in the South like me, going "OMG" i better not see 14 inches again" or to those who 14 inches is nothing but a chicken wing-lol. be safe.

My BIL, nephew, and 2 of his workers are leaving tomorrow morning for Atlanta with 2 snow plow trucks and shovels and show blowers. My bil mother lives in Atlanta. My BIL is also taking his new toy, it is like a blower, duster, sweaper to clean sidewalks. They are not goughing prices either, they are keeping their same rates as they do in Wisconsin.

We haven't had much snow in the last couple of weeks, and nothing predicted for awhile, so they all decided today to go.

My exdh used to live in Baraboo Wisconsin, he still lives here in VA, of course when we get it here is nothing for him to be in.

Yeah, every time I hear it, it gets deeper. Like a fish story. :lmao: First it was 4", then 6, then 10" and now they're saying we'll get freezing rain all day Monday on top of the snow. Joy. :rolleyes1

:thumbsup2 That's great of them. :goodvibes

They should let local emergency workers know they are there. If the power goes out, technology-dependent patients will need to be rescued. Back in '93, they had to send vehicles that could handle the snow out to get ventilator-dependent patients to places with electricity and heat and it was still hard to reach some of them.

They are even calling for 1-3 inches in deep south Georgia. I hope there is still stuff left at the stores tomorrow when I go out.

I was just chatting with a friend on FB, and she said she went to Walmart about 2 hours ago and the bread, milk and water aisle were almost cleared out!!:scared1:

Glad I went right after school!
(Bring on the snow. . .we Georgia folks don't get very many really "good" snows! The most I've ever seen is 8-9 inches. . .would love to have more than that!)
