Are DVC "Perks" Really DVC Perks at All?

I think it's time to address the elephant in the room. It's been almost a month. Are they still selling discounted passes to white card resale owners and are they still activating them at the gate? Does anybody know?

There were reports as late as last week. Have not read here or elsewhere of anything from this week, but that only means no one has reported one way or the other.

I was coming to ask the same thing! We check in in just over a month, so I'm curious to hear more reports of what people are experiencing at the parks

I’m a white card and called member services two separate times and spoke to a CM who told me I could purchase after I gave them my member number. I purchased after the second phone call. I had no idea there was a difference between dvc and who could buy the sorcerer pass. I’m now on my way to Disney as we speak and worried now they will refuse when I show them my dvc ID. We really couldn’t do the extra $800 total for the incredi-pass right now so Im kind of a sad panda right now.

I do feel badly for you, and sincerely hope you are allowed the Sorcerer pass. After all, it’s their mistake.

That said, what would you have done if they said NO when you called??

Had I been told no when I called on then phone then that would’ve been it. I would’ve appreciated being told no upfront vs when I arrive at the gate. I was super excited when I received an email saying dvc could get the sorcerer pass and to call member services to book. The first time I wanted to get pricing and info to give my husband. Second call i booked. I’m just bummed now.

Ive been hesitant to mention this here due to the wrath of the blue card holders, but we are also on a discounted DVC pass with just a white card(family of 4). It should be said that I mentioned the proper requirements back to the CMs multiple times and they insisted I qualified.

It started for me when I joined the early Ap holder reactivation process. We previously had our out of state regular price platinums as white card holders. The AP reinstatement team set me up with DVC renewal prices without my knowledge. Once I saw what I owed I knew it was too little, so I called back to let them know as I didn't want to go through the hassle at the parks. As I knew Id be denied when they ask for my blue card. They insisted it was the right prices. I figured they weren't DVC experts and waited to take care of it in person. Fast forward to a few months later and we are at WDW and Im picking up the physical cards at guest services at Epcot. As I go up to renew I once again state "Hey I believe Im getting the blue card benefit here". The CM not only said I qualified but said they may owe me cash back??? And went back to the office for a several minutes saying he still thinks they owe me cash back but couldn't clarify. They only card I offered was the digital version on my phone in MDE.

Long story short(too late) we have DVC Platinum APs now. They renew in June 2022, and while we may not be renewing any longer due to all of the "Chapek Changes", if we do I will be honest again.

Im chalking this up to staffing shortages and new hires who don't understand the requirements. But I spoke to multiple parties through the process and they all said we DID qualify. We clearly do not. Way too many CMs were involved for it to be pixie dust.

It should not matter if you are blue or white card. I am glad white card holders are able to buy the discounted pass. I have the blue card and also own a mix of resale and direct points. I have never been a fan of the tiering system they put in place. But the only blue card benefit we use is the AP.

Also to add if it helps anyone else. GR asked for my confirmation for the purchase and my photo ID. Then asked to see my dvc card and just input the member number and phone numbers and handed us our cards. It was from my phone and clearly a white card but she never said anything. It took maybe 5 minutes.

Sorry for the late update we’ve been in the parks all day.

I'm also a blue card member, from before the restrictions started. I also don't like the tiered system, but I think the point people are making is that DVC has been luring buyers to direct with the blue card benefits. If there are no benefits to the blue card that are different from white card, some of those buyers could have saved thousands of dollars by purchasing resale. They probably feel duped.

DVC is apparently in the middle of phasing out the blue physical cards and making those digital, too. There is a note about it in the Winter issue of the Disney Files (page 25). We just got ours today.

My guess is that the Ticketing/Guest Services CMs were trained to just input the DVC membership number and if it comes back as valid to go ahead and sell or activate the pass. Actual physical card not required.

Anyway, until (and unless) DVC decides to differentiate between the blue & white digital memberships in the database that Ticketing/Guest Services uses for verification, it looks like all DVC Members will be allowed to purchase and activate the GOLD annual pass.

I had contacted DVC simply to let them know if they want to sell to resale members that fine but then correct their website.

They responded to say only direct members can purchase to which I responded anyone right now can buy and activate the pass.

My issue right now is if it's not a direct benefit that's fine but let's get the website correctly showing the information and let's get the membership extras disclosure updated as well.

Question for those white card holders who upgraded from hopper tix to sorcerer AP over the phone and received a voucher, did ticketing ask for your DVC number to get the voucher? If so, it would be hard for them not to honor it when they issued the voucher to your DVC number (which I assume is tied to white card status). They would have some complicity here and it should be hard to blame the DVC member upon redempton.
I'm wondering the same, at that point does Disney have to honor it? The member ID is given at time of purchase over the phone, so they know its resale.

I got further information last night. Supposedly all the Member Services agents are supposed to be checking and only selling to Blue Card members with April 4, 2016 being the cut off for the resale buyers.

I think this is chalked up to lots of new people at MS and just not remembering or being informed.

We will see but I would expect at some point that White Cards will not be able to buy passes. As for activating I suspect that will always be hit or miss with some just allowing it since it was sold by DVC.

I don't think they have to honor it. They could provide either a refund or equal value towards a different ticket type.

Otherwise why even check IDs when activating? Its the same thing with FL APs as well they check upon activating that you actually still qualify for discount.

I'm sure that is correct. However, what a DUMB process that is. It would be a lot easier, simpler, accurate & consistent if all a CM had to do was input the Membership Number. The software looks up the membership and then sends back the response valid or not valid for discount/perk. It wouldn't matter which CM/Department is checking, and no one would have to rely on memory or training.
