April 2023 Direct Sales Flat: https://dvcnews.com/dvc-program-menu/financial/financial-news/5616-disney-vacation-club-direct-sales-flat-in-april-2023

Do you know if they've ever decreased the price of the points once its released or they just come up with more enticing incentives? Just wondering if there's been precedence for that.
Riviera started selling in 2019 and then was better priced in 2020 or 2021 (can’t remember) due to better incentives bc of the pandemic.

Even during the Great Recession of 2007-8, direct prices did not decrease. Instead, discounts got better.

As I recall, resale prices did not bottom out until 2010-11.

I second this.

As an example of the discounts, 2009 spring webcast VGC discounted as low as $85/point and BLT was as low as $91/pt. Base price was $112, so the dollars off lowered it to that price/pt. I don't recall SSR or AKV discounts because we weren't interested in either at the time. DVC had these four all opening in 2009 (Kidani, THV, BLT, and VGC). DVD was trying to sell all well over 10 million new points at the worst time in most of our lifetimes.

By 2011, I think our second BLT purchase around $125 and no discounts were offered.

Something that made matters worse was 2007-2009, there were many people on the boards and social media boasting about buying DVC with some free points promotion. They were telling others how to use get a very cheap vacation. Buy DVC using a loan with a free points promotion, take the trip, then they defaulted on the loan. :crazy2: This resulted in DVC being in far worse situation.

During the resale bottom (I can't recall, but it may not have ended until 2012), some were able to pickup BWV in the $20s. People were offering extremely low offers because few were buying and DVC could not afford to use ROFR due to ton of foreclosure contracts they were seeing.

^^ this is what I recall too. We bought in 2019 in the 160s (?) and then the deal (per point at that volume) did get a little better in 2020 but not enough to make us regret buying in 2019 and having an unforgettable NYE trip months before COVID hit.

Wow. That is the same mindset that led to the great recession in the first place.

Does anybody know (1) what the minimum # of points you need to purchase for the 30/60/90 promotion to take effect is? (2) the minimum # of points for magical beginnings?

We already have enough direct points for all the perks, but I’m considering buying more direct because I want to lock in dates the first week of Jan before the 7m window and I’m running out of time. 🤪

BWV in the 20s for resale?!?

We would buy there if they did the windows like Hyperspace Lounge on the Wish and made it gave you extra hours at Galaxy’s edge (via landing shuttle). Wouldn’t stay for a week but would stay for 2-3 nights a year.
The rooms are smaller than the Riviera Tower Studios (by far), so I’m guessing they’ll start at 40 points per night.

I bought GCV as a CM for $72 a point 😳
Is there is a non-zero chance VDH could be discounted this summer? I was planning on poly originally but all the annoying arguing from Florida is ruining my vacation zen.

We're staying at the GCH in a couple months and I think if I make accidental eye contact with a DVC rep I'm done for.
Throw in a significant discount and there's no chance I'll escape.

All depends on where sales and the economy goes. Rarely do prices go lower than the introductory incentives for existing owners. But I believe VGC and Riviera incentives got slightly better than where it started. If I were on the fence, I’d start the buying process the day before the current round of incentives end. That way, you can always rip up your contract if incentives happen to get better.
