Hi - just curious as a follow-up. So, I would activate the AP at the concierge desk before check-in? Or is there the option to activate it AT check-in? Or something else?
thanks,
You actually have to go to one of the Guest Services windows at one of the 4 main parks to pick up your AP first, then return to your resort to check-in. Others have posted that they were never asked but why take the risk. When you order your AP over the phone, the CM will advise you of this process. On our trip, we got off the Magical Express and the family headed inside to explore the resort (we used the bag tags to have our bags picked up at the airport by Disney). I then just hopped on a bus to the closest park and walked over to the Guest Services window on the side (not the normal ticket windows) and told them I was picking up my AP's. When I returned on the bus to check-in at the resort, they did ask me for my AP.
Also, in addition to the reduced room only discounts for AP holders, you can also get the reduced AP rate on many tour experiences, dinner shows, etc. before you pick up your AP. Just tell them when you're booking over the phone that you've purchased your AP and will be picking it up when you arrive. They will still give you the reduced rate but you may have to show your AP when you pick up your tickets.
Have a look at the list of discounts with the AP. I've missed so many discounts not realizing that there were AP rates at various stores and events (e.g. 10% off purchases at the
Lego store, 10% off at Planet Hollywood or Rainbow Cafe). By default, I now always ask if there are any AP discounts when I go to pay for anything.

Also consider ordering a Tables of Wonderland card ($75 now for AP holders) to get a 20% discount at all Table Service meals or Counter Service meals at resorts that don't have a Table Service restaurant (like the Value Resorts and POFQ). Just remember that they automatically include an 18% tip on your bill (not at the Value Resorts or POFQ) when using the card so don't add any additional tip unless you intend to. I doubled the tip the first time not realizing that they added it in automatically. The Dining Plan CAN save you
up to 30% only if you fully utilize it, however, you can save more over time with the 20% card if you only plan to occasionally eat at the Table Service restaurants and you're not buying the most expensive entrees on the menu.
