My daughter has started to shop for prom dresses. Her prom is in April. There are so many sketchy sites out there. Has anyone heard of JJ's House?

We've ordered from Lulu's before but they don't have a huge selection. She's trying to avoid the "same dress, different color" thing.

I’m not familiar, their return policy seems a little sketchy. Have you tried prom girl? We have one local, but they also ship.

My son just got married and my daughter in laws mom ordered her dress from there and had no problems.

I would say it's one of the more reputable of the China dress shops. I know a girl that it worked for. But of course it's still a gamble.

DD just got one from Windsor which was really reasonable in price. We've also done promgirl and Peaches Boutique online.

Thank you!. The local stores are soooo expensive. I look at the return policies and some websites do not even have return policies! We'll check out the ones listed.

I have a Sherri Hill dress for DD coming from Peaches, it was on sale, and they had a 25% off code!

DD was in a wedding and the girls ordered heir dresses from JJ's House. None of them fit when they can in (all way too small) and after multiple attempts they were unable to get either new dresses or their money back. They ended up having to order dresses from a local place.

Have you considered renting? My daughter rented her last dress for $40. Rent the Runway will send you down and up a size also to make sure it fits. She received so many compliments because it was unique compared to what everyone else was wearing.

Buy at a local boutique. I see that Peaches On line is a thing.....OMG - anyone who is able to and close enough needs to go to Peaches in Chicago. Its the most bizarre experience I've ever encountered (twice), and one I wouldn't trade for all the tea in China.

I have read terrible things about JJ's House, and have a friend whose niece ordered dresses from there and nothing fit, and the materials weren't even the same color. I know you are asking about prom, but DD's bridesmaid's dresses came from Azazie and they were amazing. Everything fit perfectly. You have the option of "rack" sizes or "custom" sizing, the difference being custom can't be returned. They also have a try-on program where for $10 a dress they'll send you the dress you are interested in to try on at home. It might not be in the color you want, but you'll get an idea of what it looks like, how it fits, etc. That $10 includes shipping both ways, and you can keep the dress for a week. We were very, very pleased with Azazie.

I ordered my mother of the groom dress from JJ's last year. I ended up not wearing it because once I saw it, I decided that it wouldn't work as well since it was an outside wedding and would just be too much dress for the occasion. The one I bought was a 'sample' dress which was a really good price and it was really pretty, however they just stuffed it into the smallest zippered bag I had ever seen for shipment! Sample dresses are non returnable which I knew going in. I plan on just donating it when I get around to it. I would not order from them again more so because of the way my dress was shipped to me.

Tell me more....

We've also bought used from Facebook swaps. A dress a couple of years old is still in style but not as likely to be duplicated at the dance!

Oh yeah we have bought at David’s Bridal twice before. In store there aren’t that many options but we’ve still had luck and they aren’t hundreds of dollars like the boutiques.

First off - you have to make an appt to come in. Your daughter has to look on line and pick the dresses she wants to try on prior to coming in and save them in her on line account. When you come in there are hundred of people milling about - the line for the fitting room (there are like 30 of them) is where you spend all your time. When your princess gets to try it on, mom gets to go stand at the velvet rope area to see your girl, (my girl was a competitive cheerleader, same concept with the ropes. when your team is up, you get to stand in the front, so don't fret that you're not at the front - moms will move when their girl is done) There are hundreds of dresses on the "floor" too so if the one your girl chose on line, its to her liking, she can try on one of those. I seem to think that the daughter can't leave the fitting area or they lose their spot and its up to mom to look for something their kid might like. Hilarious if you're like me and my girl. If I love it, she hates it, so I was looking for dresses for her that I HATED. LOL This dress shop is in a random part of the city, in a strip mall and has about 7 storefronts - people come from really far away to experience this, they stay downtown and drive to Peaches. I like that they keep a list of of high school and who's wearing what and will not sell same dress to same school. To be honest, there are sooooo many to choose from, I can't even imagine two girls picking the same dress, but I'm sure it happens.

I wouldn’t like that. The place dd18 got hers was a little similar, I can’t remember she made an appointment, but I remember arriving before they opened and a line to sign in on a laptop. After waiting for a few minutes, her person escorted us in, we picked some dresses to start, and she got her own dressing room. While she was changing, her person picked more dresses. There was a mirror in her dressing room plus others all over. I think a bell rang when she said yes to the dress, got to walk a carpet and take picture, her person looked at the prom dress page at her high school to double check no one claimed it yet. A parent had to be with her, and no men were allowed in, but girls could come out and show dads.

yours sounds much more civilized. LOL. I do have to say the NO PHOTOS were allowed until you bought the dress. very strict policy on that.

Hmm, they might’ve had the same policy. Also, only the attendant could work the zippers. The dresses were in much better condition than the other places right by us where girls tried on dresses on their own.
