Anyone have eye floaters? SO annoying.

My vision is so poor sometimes I'm grateful I can see the floaters;)

I have these irriting things as well. I even had a "field of vision test" because mine had gotten so severe. They come and go and are completely harmless according to my opthamologist.

I am going Monday morning because since turning 40 2 years ago, I am having trouble seeing far away. I expected close up to go first but things are pretty blurry in my world.

Just wait until you can't see close or far away! I need bifocals, but refuse to get them. I've heard that once you get used to them, there's no going back and I don't want to have to depend on them yet. So if I need to see something up close, I take off my glasses and look at it.

I haven't worn my contacts in years!

I have them too. They are very annoying. Especially in the shower and sometime looking through the scope at work.

Uggh! Yes. My eye-dr. said they can't do anything about them. It mainly drives me crazy when looking at something solid white--like the wall in my shower every morning!!!

And reading, on the white page you see these things floating by. :headache:

I have had them ever since I was little too.

I have one in my left eye. It looks like the shadow of a kinked-up thread with a balled-up knot at the end. I've had it at least 10 years, and the doc told me also that it was related to age, and would probably come and go. (It hasn't ever gone, though.)

I can mostly ignore it except on really bright days against a white surface. (Like trying to read a book outdoors.) Fortunately (?) we don't have too many days like that in the Seattle area, so it isn't too much of a bother... yet.

Did you see a shower of sparks? Do you have a dark shadow are veiled area in you eye? If not, you probably don't have a retinal tear. The doctor told me that I would see a shower of sparks and/or a veiled area if my retina tore.

I hope things are okay for you! Try not to worry!

My vision seems to be OK, though my eye is still somewhat bloodshot. : ( I didn't see any flashing lights. And, I'm in the middle of a horrible cold, which probably isn't helping my eye get any better. My sinuses with the cold plus allergies has robbed me of sleep all week.

Wish me luck--my eye doctor appointment is this afternoon! I hope that all will be well and that we can go full speed ahead with our WDW trip. I'll post an update after my appointment.

I've had one ever since I can remember. I usually don't notice it unless I'm looking at something light colored. But even then it doesn't bother me.

I had a retinal tear which was signaled by a small fireworks display in my eye followed by what I called a spider web but ended up being what the docs called the "veil." The did a lazer repair and all was well in 2 weeks but no reading or driving or quick/eye head movements. Of course REM is the worst of those but uncontrollable.

Yep I have had them, they usually last a few weeks and then go away. I had lots of test to make sure it wasnt serious.

I also have ocular migraines,

and I have corneal erosion,, which causes my cornea to tear sometimes when I wake up too fast, happens maybe twice a month sometimes more.

I swear that is the worst pain ever, all I can do I is cry and try to go back to bed it actually makes me feel sick sometimes.

I get them with migraines. Usually start out as floaters and then grow to these huge aura things, then severe pain in my head. I've had them since I was 18 or 19.

I get those aura things too....doctor did say they were optical migranes. The weird thing about them though is that the aura will eventually become so large that I cannot see for a good amount of time, the weirder thing is that I never get a headache.

I am 39 and have had them ever since I can remember. I think DD, 4, may have them too based on what she said to me not long ago.

I have had the flashes of light and eye floaters. In fact, this started the day before we left for DW. While waiting to board our plane I called my opthamologist's office. They told me not to get on the plane and to come see them ASAP. I said no and they told me to find an opthamoligist in Orlando. A friend found one for me and I went to see him right from the airport. He was written up as one of the top doctors in the Orlando magazine. He and his staff were excellent. I do have a vitreous detachment but not a detached retina. The reason they want to see you right away is that if it is a detached retina you could potentially lose sight in that eye. This wonderful man told me that if I started to notice a curtain closing in my vision, that would be a sure sign of detachment and to come back and see him ASAP. Vitreous detachment as others have said comes with age. I asked him want I could do to prevent it and he jokingly said die.

Oh my gosh, this same thing happened to me before I left to WDW in March. I did go to the dr before I left so I knew what the problem was and was told to pay attention to any change and if there was to immediately go to the eye dr. My doctor gave me names of someone to call if I had a problem. Same answer, you didn't do anything to cause it, you can't do anything to prevent it from happening again. And if it did happen again, get immediately to a doctor as you can lose your sight. Scary. I have also had two cataract operations.

I had them before and after both of my cataract surgeries, too. I just had a follow up visit yesterday with my eye surgeon and mentioned the one floater "friend" in my left eye and he just told me it'd be there awhile. He never seems concerned when I mention them

I also am taking Xalatan for high pressure in both eyes.

I've had them for awhile. About six months ago, I started having more. I was also seeing a bright flash occasionally in one eye. I went to the eye doctor and she told me that it was common as the gel substance pulled loose. It will separate for most people by the time they are 55. Mine is having a little more trouble doing this. She said that on rare occasions, it can stick to the retina and actually tear the retina as it pulls loose. If I start seeing a huge number of the floaters or a shower of bright sparks, I should get to an eye doctor right away because that would signal a retinal tear.

Isn't getting older fun? :confused3

That's what happened to my right eye about 2yrs ago. They wanted to do this surgery to put a permiable gas bubble over it to repair the retina, but you have to keep your head downwards for 7-10days and with me being on o2 and headgear with bipap it wasn't a possibily. Now my left eye is starting and I have to go back every month. Dr said if he catches it eary on he can just lazor it. I hope so cause I can't see anything but a black blurry hole in my right eye. I want to be young again! I'm on the top of the list for body transplants!:rotfl:

I'm back from the retina specialist, and my retina shows no sign of a detachment or tear! I am sooooooo relieved. My floaters are the same as always, but there is nothing to do about that. He isn't sure what is causing my one eye to be slightly bloodshot, but it's not due to any strain on my retina and he said that it could very well be my allergies. WHEW! BTW, that was quite an exam! He did this thing where he kept pulling at my eyelids and I had tons of tears--I was glad when he was finished with that part.

Now I can go back to counting down the days to WDW without worrying about my eye! 47 days to go! :mickeyjum

I've had floaters since I was a young girl. If I get bored, I'll bounce the floaters around like a pong game.
