I have an opportunity through my employer to sign up for this for free. It is normally $50 per year. I was just wondering if anyone here was a member and if so, what their opinions were. Is it worth it? Is it similar in concept to the Emerald Club? Any comments pro or con are appreciated.

I had the same opportunity through my employer many years ago. I've still got it and I love it!!!

Larger airport/offsite lots - just get on the bus and tell them you are a gold member and your name. When you get to the lot there is a covered area with marquees above each car and your name up over your car. The car is backed in with the trunk open. The car is running with either the air or heat running depending on the time of year. There is a copy of USA Today on the passenger seat and the rental contract is hanging from the mirror. You stop on the way out of the lot to hand the guard the contract and your drivers license. There is a booth at the pickup point if you have questions, problems or need directions. There is a map in the car.

Midsize airports (don't have the special section) - Seperate checkin booth out at the lot. Bypass the checkin at the terminal. Go right to the gold club booth. Give your license and your paperwork is ready, they hand you the key and tell you the space number. The gold spaces are up front.

Smaller airports (only the one counter) will have a seperate gold member line that will speed up processing. Still should have all your paperwork already done. Just show license and off you go.

I love it!! :D

It is very convenient particularly for business travel. However, understand the following: Hertz rental prices tend to be higher than others almost anywhere; also at Orlando having National's Emerald Club (similar, just walk to aisle and take car, no waiting in line) is better because National is right at the airport and Hertz is a 10 to 15 minute bus ride away.

Happy Hertz Gold Member here !!!!

I too became a member free through work and just love it. And although I agree that Hertz prices are higher, in some cases they aren't. For example, we are renting a mini-van at Orlando in Dec. and Hertz was cheaper by about $100.00 for a nine day rental.

Since it's free, it certainly won't hurt to join and then shop around for good rates.

Thank you all for the input. I appreciate it. I probably will just join since there is no cost involved. It can't hurt. I know the company gets a discount with Hertz as well, but so far it doesn't come close to the DC discounts with National.
