What are the DOWNSIDES to staying at Aulani?

What kind of question is that....lol
So negatives. Need a car or some paid transportation to get around. Not a city, so no real nightlife or places to walk and sightsee.
No real shopping close by. Either food or retail. Yes there is small marts near,,but not what you would call shopping.

You're entitled to your own opinions, but not fake facts.

"We don't like the food" is a fine opinion you can have. I disagree, but okay.

"It's all burgers hot dogs and pizza or sandwiches" is just factually incorrect. It's wrong. Not up for debate. Untrue. False. And it's a disservice to people who have never been because they use sites like this for research.

Like the lady on the first page who said that Aulani sucks because they don't sell bathing suits.
You are entitled to your opinion mine differs that’s my right

But you are not being truthful if you say that the only thing is burgers, hot dogs, and pizza.

Anyone can go online and access a menu or use the app to see that.
It’s not the only thing I never said only but it’s a lot of that ulu cafe off the hook pool bar all sandwiches pizzas etc. sorry you don’t like my opinion but I’m entitled to it all the same

Do you mean those things are the only options for you personally to eat..? Because they advertise a LOT more...

Menu for Ulu:
https://www.disneyaulani.com/dining/quick-service/ulu-cafe/
"Menu options change daily, but might include:
  • Self-serve items available all day
  • Breakfast favorites like eggs, bagel sandwiches, breakfast flatbreads, acai bowls and more
  • Lunch and dinner options, like pizzas, sandwiches and poke bowls
  • Daily specials, including a hot sandwich and a hot dinner entrée
  • Sweets and snacks, like DOLE Whip® and popcorn
  • Pre-packaged local treats—which you can enjoy at the Resort or take home to family and friends"
MAYBE they only had sandwiches and pizza that day? That would be a ton of other things they claim to have that they mysteriously did not...

Then there is no way at Off the Hook ... they'd have to skip their entire entree, pasta & salad section,

FWIW I've been to Roy's on the big island and the one at Ko Olina and it was just OK IMO. I'm not saying Aulani has groumet food either but you can get much better seafood in Hawaii if you look. My favorite is Mama's Fishhouse, and the sushi at Koiso on Maui is a must do anytime we on on the island.

We tend to do counter-service dining on vacations, especially at Disney destinations. We prefer the counter-service restaurants at the WDW value and moderate resorts to all the deluxe resorts at WDW and DL. It seems that all the deluxe resorts' counter-service offerings are flatbreads, burgers, chicken tenders, salads, sandwiches, and maybe one unique item. It would be nice if the deluxe resorts had more complete, balanced meals like starch (besides fries)/cooked vegetables/protein. WDW value and moderate resorts have several options that meet this criterion. Ulu's options fall between WDW/DL moderate/value resorts and deluxe, where we may find dinner options twice on a week-long vacation, but end up venturing offsite to ABC (across the street) or Kapolei.

This is a direct quote: “It's all burgers hot dogs and pizza or sandwiches very carb based.”

That is factually untrue and misleading.

Just so you know for next time, every night ulu serves exactly what you are asking for! It’s only served at dinner time, but I’ve ordered a chicken, mashed potatoes, and sautéed vegetables meal.

Food prices are obscene, and there’s only one casual restaurant with a berg limited number of choice, same menu for lunch and dinner. Otherwise it’s hundreds of dollars for a prix fixe set menu that’s only one stud from
cafeteria steam table food, or even more for a menu of “tweezer food served on flat plates.” Forget about breakfast unless you like eating out of a box with plastic utensils.

The pools are jam-packed and the rows and rows of lounges make you feel like a number.

I’m going to bow out of this thread as it seems to have shifted from “Aulani may not be for everybody” to people just trolling.

We are looking forward to going back to Aulani in a couple of weeks and staying and enjoying these views.
