Anyone have a Chi?

whats the differnance between the chi and other flat irons

The first one lasted about 1 year and 2 months (just went out one day). We went to the Salon Store PRONTO!! and purchased another one. My DD16 and I couldn't be without it. This one is 1 year and 3 months strong and still going.

Have not tried the CHI hair dryer, is it that much better than a regular old dryer?

I don't know why, but it really truly does straighten so much better than other ones. It's not just a brand-name thing. Maybe it gets hotter? I dunno, but trust me, there is a world of difference.

I bought the generic chi from Sally's Beauty Supply. I love it and it was not as much as the chi. I wonder if there is a difference....

I am so excited to hear good things about this.:yay: I wanted to buy one, but they aren't cheap. So, I wanted to make sure they were worth the money first. It sounds like they definately are.....Thanks for helping me make my decision.:)

They are absolutely worth it.

They heat up to a higher temp then 'store' ones - which also means, one swipe on your hair, and youre done. 'Store' ones, you have to go over and over and over your hair to straighten - which is very damaging to the hair itself.

CHI's (and I also love the J Beverly Hills one) also are ceramic plates, and ceramic coils. You get an even temp through the whole iron itself.

I agree with a PP about a protectant spray (or smooth in). It will also protect the hair from heat damage.
They ABSOLUTELY are worth it. :thumbsup2

I almost did this for DD last christmas but ended up getting some other item(not a flat iron) But I'm wondering too. The ones they had at the beauty supply place were still pricey, just not as much as the chi. And they were ceramic or some other material...maybe tourmalene or something like that.

So, anybody know if the sally's knock offs are the same as the chis?

I have read on here of several places to buy this CHI but all are online ...

can anyone tell me which stores I can walk into and buy ??? and of course where the best deal would be or have seen ??

many thanks !

I had a CHI, loved it til it broke 2 years later, and was not covered by a warranty at that point. Replaced it with (a pricier) GHD which I also love!

One of the best $125 I've ever spent. I LOVE my CHI.

One thing I will say is that I don't like their styling products- but their irons are the best!

The basics of a flat iron are plates, thermostat, heating element and hardware.

Ceramic plates are a significant upgrade from metal plates - but metal plates (cheap Target flat irons) will work for a lot of people. You want a decent quality thermostat and a heating element that heats evenly. You want hardware that isn't going to break in a year.

There is also a width difference - wider widths are pricier, but narrow widths are better for shorter hair.

If you have fairly fine straight hair to start with, you need "less" flat iron than if you start with thick curly hair.

I don't have a Chi and like my ceramic plate flat iron just fine - but I start with fairly short fine hair with some wave in it - I'm not trying to iron down 32 inches of thick curls.

I have one and I LOVE it! I am a Cuban-American and it really helps my think semi-out of control wavey hair to be straight! LOVE IT!

I am thinking about buying a Chi flat iron and I just wondered if anyone had one. Do you like it? Is it worth the money?

I have one, and I love, love, love it! I have super thick...and I mean thick, coarse hair, and it does a fabulous job of straightening my hair and leaving it smooth and silky. It was worth every penny!

So do you think the ones they sell at Sally's Beauty are on par with a Chi?

I wonder too about the Sally's brand. It looks just like a Chi but the base price is only $59.95. MUCH less! Has anyone used both??

Not sure if this brand has been mentioned, but FHI Heat is also a great brand of ceramic irons. I use their iron and hair dryer and I love it. They are sold at ULTA and Folica.com. From my research, they are ranked with the Chi brand.

do i need a 2 inch one or 1 inch

I would go with the 1 inch. I have 2 Chi's, the first one doesn't have temperature control, so, I bought another one that does. I agree with the previous posts....I would also just stick with the black one & I agree w/buying it at Folica.com - great store.
