Has anyone flown into the Snaford airport for their Disney trip? Are rental cars more expensive there? Do you think it is a good option for a family flying from PA? We may be able to get direct flights from Allentown to Sanford for our May trip instead of having to drive to Philly to fly into Orlando. I"m curious as to the pros and cons of Sanford if anyone can help me out!

The rental cars are comprable to Orlando, in some cases better. They have all the major companies and Alamo/National, Dollar are on site. There are a couple of others onite but Budget is NOT one of them.

It's a very easy airport to get around in and it's just minutes from SR417 which will take you right to Disney. 417 is a toll road and it's about $6.00 but there is little traffic on it so it is worth the tolls.

cranbiz said it all. I used the code "orless" at Alamo, and that was my cheapest rate.

Excellent. NOw I just have to wait for Allegiant to release their May schedule and I'll be all set!!

I am flying in Allegiant in late Nov and just figured out that Orlado has 2 airports. Only bad thing I have found is that transfres cost twice as much from this airport.

Disney provides free transfers, DME, from MCO but not from Sanford. The difference isn't twice but infinity.

Car rental costs are about the same.

The mileage from Sanford to WDW is more so cabs and towncars cost about double.

You can rent a car for 24 hours with a drop off at WDW for around $50. Do that and your transfer costs are competitive.

We won't be staying on property, so we're getting a rental car no matter what. I just don't want to pay 2x as much since I'm renting in Sanford!

You pay twice as much, for transfers, from Sanford because the distance of the Sanford Airport is twice as far as the distance from the Orlando Airport to Disney. In many cases the landing in Sanford saves you $50 to $100 bucks per passenger on the ticket as compared to landing Orlando.

All, that I know of, flights into Sanford are direct flights so you you are only are spending two to three hours in the air and no stop overs or changes. The airports you land at and take off from are much more convenient and are small so the crowds are minimal. Many cases, when you leave home, you spend 10 to 30 minutes going to the small airport rather than the big airport which is 2 hours down the road.

In Sanford there is no ME so you have to shop a little bit for car service to Disney. It will cost you $180 to $240 roundtrip for your family. Taxis are also available but they are usually higher than the car service companies. Rental cars are also available in the Sanford Airport.

So lets see if you can purchase a roundtrip ticket to Sanford for $200. and the same ticket cost you $325. landing in Orlando. You have 5 persons in your family. Sanford tickets $1000.00 and Orlando tickets $1625.00 you have just saved $625.00 on tickets. Transportation to Disney takes up another $200.00, so you only saved $425.00 because you landed in Sanford and couldn't take the ME.

If the Allegiant Airline package is more convenient for you, you do save money, time and walking landing in Sanford and transferring in a car service, taxi or rental car. Do the figures before you say we aren't going to pay twice much, for transfers, landing in Sanford than Orlando. Actually twice as much as DME is $.00 as DME is free.

we always fly into sanford and love it from allentown, it's not comparable to orlando and (yuck) philly,
take a direct flight in calming surroundings, and relax the entire way there rent a car for 20$ a day and return it to dolphin if you want you can fit 5 people in a rental and the drive is very easy, don't even worry about it, Deb has great direction from the airport to any dis hotel..

allegiant prices now are $109 and airtran is $99 believe me it's well worth it,
we use dollar and they usually upgrade me to a mini-van, i always overpack, they always have plenty on the lot,
now come on May....

Let me define "twice as much"
I was looking at ground transportation via a town car or van from SFD to Animal Kingdom Lodge. Most companies were double the MCO rate.

And look at the mileage. MCO to Disney 23 miles. Sanford to Disney 50 miles.

I will be renting a car, so the transfer prices are not an issue for me. I think if I can find flights on the days I need them, we may go with Allegiant. The convenience facotr alone may make it worthwhile.
