Anyone concerned about the Coronavirus in WDW ?

I am more concerned about possible travel disruptions. Imagine PoP Century being under quarantine. We are booked on the Hawaii Wonder Sailing. Live in Germany. We are VERY concerned something will stop us from this trip and it‘s not the virus. But travel bans, disruptions.

Don't forget to buy powdered milk if you have a need for it. A few weeks back I refilled my apt sized chest freezer so I'm fine for everything but milk, frozen juices (sigh) and N95 masks.

Finding the masks is all but impossible. Even on Amazon, the only sellers are very questionable.

I have friends who just canceled their trip to Italy next week. They couldn't risk being quarantined away from their children back in the U.S. It's easy now to brush it off, but it's easy to see how it could have an impact in popular tourism places like Orlando.

I think the possibility of travel disruption/quarantine is far higher than the possibility of actually coming down with the virus. I would be far more worried about that.

Where did you read that? Extreme Optimism Daily?

The most likely scenario, according to some renowned epidemiologists, is that this virus will become pervasive worldwide, and just be added to the flu as another Coronavirus we have to contend with every year. And yeah, computer simulation estimates are that most people will probably contract it eventually. This includes about 90 million Americans, 2 million of whom will die.

You expect 2 million Americans to die this year from coronavirus? To put it in perspective 60,000 die from the flu each year. That is a lot of funerals.

If there are 2 million deaths from this thing no one is going to blithely attending Walt Disney world because it will be closed.

Think about it actually. About 2x more infectious than flu. 20x higher mortality rate. It might be possible. Scary.

*I* don't expect that, the virologists and epidemiologists and their computer driven models expect that.

Read the article I posted. Someone else posted it above, the Atiantic one. It's very informative on what is happening and what potentially could happen, in very real terms.

Don't forget how devastating the 1918 Spanish Flu was. And that one started right here in the midwest. Killed an estimated 20-50 million people worldwide, including 625,000 Americans. In the space of just a few months.

Masks are also disputable. They work best to contain droplets from a sick person who is wearing it. Too many errors in application and type to protect a healthy person wearing them.

True for surgical masks. N95 respirators however provide actual protection if used and fitted properly. Unfortunately it's the N95 masks that are all gone and being hoarded already.

Maybe we should all plan Disney Shanghai Trips soon. Have a feeling in China it‘s running its course and now hitting us.

I saw someone wearing a full dual canister respirator yesterday walking through a supermarket. Was the weirdest thing I've ever seen, although at this point I get that some people are really paranoid. And it wasn't the stereotype around her of the East Asian immigrant who goes around wearing surgical masks.

I found p95 respirators, so I purchased 2. From what I have read those would work. Hopefully I never have to find out.
