Why are POAS tests so dang enticing?

Sigh. I took one this morning, I'm 3 days away from AF. BFN. I'm a little down. :guilty:

There ought to be a collar or something we can wear that if we come within 3 feet of a pregnancy test before we miss AF, we get a shock or something. :lmao: Sorry about the BFN, but still keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Go little eggies, go! :cheer2: I guess I really should be cheering for the spermies, huh!

Dznylvr - I think most RE's will figure out what is wrong first, but there is a lot of unexplained infertility, and they start the Clomid protocol to try to get you PG without ever figuring out why. I don't really buy the unexplained infertility diagnosis, though, and wonder if there could be more testing done to pinpoint the cause. Maybe that is in our future.

Hi ladies!

Slight update. My doctor prescribed prenatal vitamins and I've been on them for 3 days now. However, I do prefer the pills I original had. At least they were solid and were easy to swallow. These pills are what I consider horse pills and can be difficult to swallow at times

Has anyone missed a month of their AF and had it very heavy when it re-appeared the following month? Mine has been extremely heavy since last Friday and is showing no signs, as of yet, of slowing down. I don't remember AF ever being this heavy and it's starting to bother me a bit. I figured it's b/c I missed a month. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

Yes. I am on BCP, and there are months when it is very light, maybe a couple of months in a row. Then I will get AF from hell.

Hope you straighten out soon.

Well I remember when I had irregular periods and I could go 5, 6, 7, 8 months without a period. When I did get it, boy was it ALOT! Non stop constant for 8 days and very heavy...
It may be because your lining is thicker since you didnt' get AF last month :)

Afternoon all....

cybrkitn I've never missed a month of AF but my heaviness changes each month.

Gurgi sorry about the bfn but keep trying!!

My doctor called around noon. Out of the 4 eggs, 2 fertilized :teeth: I'm scheduled for transfer Saturday morning :woohoo:

Yep, that's what it seems like to me. I've never had AF last longer than 7 days so I don't know what to expect.

That's also what I was thinking. Your's did slow down before it stopped, right? Or did it all of a sudden just stop? This has been driving me crazy b/c I'm going through more maxi-pads than usual :headache:. I just want this to end already :sad2:

Oh my goodness. I just got home from one of those huge baby consignment sales with my sister-in-law and my nephews (4yo & 9mos). Whoa. That's a lot of stuff, and a lot of people. I bought a hardcover what to expect for $3. I was hoping they'd have maternity clothes and maybe buy something basic for cheap, but nada. Not that we are pregnant, or know that we can be, but still. I'm burning up and so glad to be home and out of those crowds!

Elaine: Yep, we went to a DCI show last night. It was an hour away so we didn't make it home until midnight! It was so humid that I had to shower when we got home, so didn't make it to bed until 12:30! I went into work late, but I was still tired! DH loves DCI. He's a percussionist so he's always been into it. I was in colorguard in high school (played flute in concert band) so I enjoy it as well. DS loves it! I actually bought DH and DS a DCI video for part of their christmas present (those things are pricey!).

Denae, I'm doing better, thanks. I no longer spontaneously cry, so that's a start! I'm actually doing a lot better. I still haven't written to my friend. I've actually typed out a few replies, but they all seem cold and fake so I never send them. I know I need to suck it up and reply, but I don't want it to sound witchy. Would just sending something that says "Congrats, I'm sure y'all are thrilled" be okay? Do I need to say more right now? I don't want to spill all of my emotions so soon after she made her announcement, although I have a feeling she's aware that I told her a year ago that were were TTC and I haven't had any good news yet so something must be up. I thought about emailing my other best friend in Florida about it all, but I'm afraid she may also be TTC so I don't want her to feel bad, too!! I did write out a long reply, explaining exactly what's been going on with me...but I just feel bad doing that. I feel bad saying, "Congrats and btw, here's why it makes me depressed". KWIM? I guess part of me really wants to get all of this out, but at the same time I don't want to rain on her parade. Ugh! I was planning on laying it all out for them after my August appt before she got pregnant.

Gurgi...Sorry about the BFNs. Maybe it's still too early! You know how you don't POAS?? DO NOT buy the sticks! That's the ONLY way I can keep myself from testing!

Cybrktn, I'm sorry you're having such an awful AF! I think I would call my dr if it's still going on Monday, especially if this isn't normal for you.

GypsySue..Good luck at your appt!! Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Kristy...GOOD LUCK!! I hope everything goes well on Saturday! Will you be doing both on Saturday?

WDWAurora...You are brave!! I could never make it there! I'm not much of a digger, so I would have been miserable!

allison

Skuttle - If this continues into Monday, then I will definately call. The worst thing that they would probably do is a DNC, which is what I want to avoid.

As far as normal goes for me, well, AF is only real heavy the first two days then starts to slow down and by the 6th day is pretty much done. However, since I skipped a month for the first time, I have no idea how much longer this will last :confused3 . I just can't take AF being this heavy since last Friday :headache: I want it to be over so DH and I can try again for baby #2.

If I remember correctly, it did slow down before it stopped.
In high school (12 years ago!!), it was so embarrassing.. spontaneously getting my period in the middle of class and not having a pad, cause I never knew when I'd get it. I remember this one time.. ughh... I was in class and I had white boots on and I was sitting on my foot and.. YUK!!! It was horrible.. I looked and my shoe and freaked out!! It was HORRIBLE, so much blood, it looked like a mUrder scene!! No one saw, but I was so embarrassed I had to go to the office and ask some teacher for a pad.
Now-a-days, since I get my period monthly (all of a sudden, I just got regular!) I only bleed 3 days and it's very light. Makes me think I don't have a thick enough lining :confused3

I went for my RE's blood tests this morning at Quest. I go in at 7:20am and sign in. I wait.. and wait.. and wait... only 3 people get called. Now it's coming up on 8am. So one of the techs goes out and brings back in BREAKFAST!! And they all just stop taking blood tests and they are sitting there eating!!! I couldn't believe it!!!!!!! I was so PO'd  , I left at 8:10, because I would have been late for work. Now i have to go back tomorrow.

Not only that, but there's something really wrong with my abdominal area. I just don't know what it is...
On Monday, I had alot of blood in my urine, got a culture and it came back negative :confused3 But my kidney area's been hurting :confused3 (I have an appt next week with a urologist)
Then, my intestines have been bothering me.. alot.. blood in 'there' 3 times, I've noticed.. Then the other day, oily 'stuff' floating around the bowl after.. I'm really scared that something's very wrong. I have so much abdominal pain. I go to the gastro, MD on Monday. My primary say's I'll need the colonoscopy :scared1:

Dvnylvr - that sounds horrible. I hope you get to the bottom of all of this soon. I am pretty concerned about you.

I had very heavy periods when I first started. (TMI alert) When I was in about 7th grade, we went to church every morning. I remember feeling huge clots come out when I was kneeling, and having to tie a sweater around my waist more times than I can count because I leaked even around and through the huge pads my mom gave me. YUCK!

Denae

Quick hi here... I have the doc appt today since I couldn't talk to my doc on Monday (scheduling snafu). It shouldn't be a big deal appt but unfotunately it is about 30 mins away while my other office I go to is about 2 ;)

Gurgi, how are you doing? My way of avoiding POAS was to never buy them until I needed them ;)

Cybrktn, yuck on the pre-natals. I think those things are pure evil. Good luck getting them down. I hope AF stops for you soon.

Kristy, wishing you all the best!!! Maybe you'll get twins :teeth:

Aurora, cosignment shops are interesting to go through. I know we'll look into them for some furniture. I've gotten decent clothing at some of ours... so when/if the time comes just look around. The prices are totally reasonable at ours.

Allison, DCI is great! My DH is a percussionist as well and I started off on flute but switched to F Horn for concert season my sophomore year of HS. I played mellophone one year of marching and then I did conducting for my last two years. I love DCI and all the drum and brass type bands.
As for your friend, I would say "Sorry for the delay in reply, it's been hectic here (unless you are usually days between replies then omit). Congratulations! I am sure you both are so excited! Wishing you all the best" Simple, truthful and not totally emotional. JMO on that

Denae, I so feel for you with that church situation. I used to wear tampons and pads to help avoid that on my bad days.

DznyLvr, I hope you get in to your doc asap. I'll keep good thoughts for you,b ut like Denae, I am getting concerned for you.

Gurgi, how are you doing? My way of avoiding POAS was to never buy them until I needed them ;)

Heh. Well, I had a 3 pack, so that was bad. I tested again last night, another BFN.

I feel horrible today. I'm stuffy. I have cramps. My bewbies are killing me. And to top it off, I've gotten a yeast infection for the first time in my life. EWWW. I know that is WAY tmi, but still. I'm just all around down in the dumps today. I'm sure this is gonna be a nasty AF when she starts Sunday, especially if I'm getting cramps and soreness now. :(

Dvnylvr, I sure hope you get some answers soon. I'm with Elaine, I'm getting worried for you!

Gurgi step away from the tests!! Sorry you got an infection :( I used to get them alot..no fun at all.

Cybrktn I hope AF leaves you alone soon. My only suggestion to deal with the pre-natals is to take them in the evening when you have a full stomach to settle them or eat saltines with them in the mornings.

Aurora I can't remember...which part of NC are you in? I'm in Cary (close to Raleigh). We have a few consignment shops here but none are really "special"

Allison I like Elaine's reply. She's great at wording responses. Yes, we'll put both embryos in Saturday.

Denae I had a couple of those AF moments in high school. So embarassing.

DznyLvr, you're in my thoughts. I really hope your doc is able to figure out what's going on.

Elaine any hopes of getting another sonogram since your wee one wasn't cooperating Monday?

DH gave me the first of many progesterone shots last night. OUCH!!! Those of you with experience in getting these shots do you have suggestions for an easy way to do it? The needle is so sharp that it stings.

I actually went to one of those big ones-it was at the fairgrounds. These are the sales, not like stores, if that makes sense. I know they have them other places. It just goes through the weekend. It's open to the public today. They have it twice a year, I forget who hosts it. There are 2 more in August I was hearing. One is for parents of multiples to bring their stuff, and I'm not sure what the other one was. I've never seen so much stuff-it was in the Jim Graham building, so HUGE. The line was massive. Women were hitting me with buggies, kids were stepping on me....it was crazy.

Hi Kristy -- I am VERY experienced with the progesterone shots -- I had to do them for about 16 weeks!

The good news is that you DO get used to them and they hurt less over time. The bad news is that while the shots hurt less - your skin gets more sore and bumpy from the injections.

The advice I got - which I followed -- until about the 9th week when I just did not care anymore -- was that I would ice the area for about 5-10 minutes before my shot and then afterwards my husband would rub the area with a hot/warm washcloth.

That seemed to help.

When the area was iced I could not even feel the needle going in and the rubbing afterward (even with just your hand as opposed to the heat/warm washcloth) distributes the progesterone so you don't get lumps and bumps.

The truth is this -- you will get sore and bruised over time because you will need the shots for about 10 weeks -- BUT -- it is all worth it!! It is seconds of discomfort for a big reward in the end!!

Try the ice before the shot and see how that works! What I found as the weeks of shots progressed is that the area started to bled a little more than it did early on -- I ruined quite a few pairs of pajamas -- so we started to use medical tape to tape the guaze pad onto my hip/butt after the shot and that helped too!

I am routing for you on Saturday!!

This has been a VERY lucky thread for us IVF girls.

Sounds like you are doing a 3day transfer! Will you hold off on POAS until your beta...I could not - I was way too weak -- my transfer was on a Friday and I started POAS on Monday even though I KNEW that was way way way too early!! However - I did get my first positive on the Thursday following my Friday transfer 6 days past 3 day transfer -- I got it at night -- it was very very faint!! On Friday (a week later) it was a little darker -- and by that Sunday I was getting a positive on a digital test. Turns out that my initial betas were VERY high because both embies implanted and I had twins there for awhile and then one stopped growing -- hence why I was able to get a positive fairly early!

But one little perfect peanut kept growing and thriving and she is 24 weeks and 3 days along now...

So have hope -- it does work -- and it will work for you!!

After the transfer -- stay in bed - stay horizontal and laying down for AT LEAST the rest of Sat and all of Sunday and if you can take Monday off - do so and stay laying down all of MOnday as well -- only get up to pee!! I KNOW that your clinic is going to tell you bed rest is not necessary but just do it!! It helps -- despite what your clinic says. I am on an IVF board and we follow the horizontal/bed rest advice religiously and our success rates on that board are VERY high.

Also -- eat pineapple with the core -- yes - the gross hard disgusting core -- eat it -- it helps with implanation. And last but not least - -and this part sucks -- but you MUST drink 96 oz of water a day until your beta -- it is hard to do and I hated every second of my water drinking -- but trust me -- do it!! Give these little embies every conceivable chance to implant, stick and grow.

Basically, if you are dehydrated it causes small uterus contractions which make implantation harder -- so drink!!! Even though you won't feel dehydrated and even though you won't feel the small uterine contractions -- they are there --- if you stay extra hydrated that won't happen. Aim for 96 oz - even if you fall short -- but drink drink drink. I squeezed fresh lemon into my water and that helped a little.

But trust me - I hate drinking water and I hated drinking 96oz but in the end - when you think about all the crap you have been through, the needles, the exams, the compromising positions of your legs with these strange doctors -- drinking water is just one more unpleasant task to accomplish a happy end!

Drink - relax - rub your belly - think good thoughts - ice your butt - eat pineapple - rest - stay horizontal and dream about your little one!!

******************************
Hi to everyone else --

Gurgi -- stop testing - you are driving yourself nuts -- it is WAY too early. Wait to the weekend. Fingers crossed for you!

Allison - sorry about your best friends news -- I know your heart is breaking - I am thinking of you!

To all the other TTC girls -- thinking of all of you!! You are all always in my thoughts and prayers!!

Hoping for some more BFP's real soon!

******************************
Hugs,
Nicole

Nicole thanks so much for all the tips!!!

Yes my doctor has already said no to bed rest after the transfer. She's worried that I'll get blood clots. I've read all of the studies and none of them show a significant rate of pregnancy so I'm still debating on what I'm going to do.

I'll definitely take the water suggestions though. Does it have to be water? Can I drink things like gatorade instead?

Did you just buy the big containers of pineapple at the grocery store? I love pineapple but the core is nasty.

As for POAS I'm going to try to stay away from it but we'll see if that happens.

My biggest concern right now is making sure my babies have been dividing well and getting them in tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that I'll rest tomorrow just not sure I can do the whole horizontal thing. I prefer my recliner.
