Any disadvantages to renting rather than waiting?

I’m thinking of making a rental booking (probably via David’s) at the Grand Californian to secure a room earlier than the 7 months out we’d have to wait (we own BCV).
Are there any disadvantages to booking this way, e.g. in terms of eligibility for any perks etc, because the booking has been made by someone else, not us directly?

There aren't really any tangible perks at DLR for DVC members other than dining discounts, which you get for having a blue card no consideration on where you are staying. As for the onsite perks being a DVC member is really the free resort parking, which renters are 100% entitled too also.

Actually, I believe Grand Californian charges a daily fee for parking, except to people who are staying with DVC points, using them either directly, or through the 'Disney Collection.'

Correct that was my point, maybe not made clear enough, the only real benefit to the poster using their points at DLR would be free parking (as there is very little DVC benefits besides dining at DLR). I also was stressing that the renter would get that perk too so nothing would be lost.
