My family and I are thinking about buying into to DVC. We are just going over a few pro's and con's....

I have a few questions, if anyone out there can help?

How many out there are Cast Members? If you are Cast Members, what is the real benefit for you to be a member if you already live here in Orlando. I realize you have California and others overseas, but isn't it hard to find that availability if you have to be on a wait list for someone to want to take a trip to Disney World.

Has anyone used their points for anything overseas and can share their experience?

For a family of four with children 25 and 30, what would be a good point range if anyone is out there with the same particular situation?

If you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I'm not a CM and I don't live in Florida, but I did ask for inout from folks when we were trying to make the decision to buy with older children. I got a wonderful response from everyone. It was great to hear of others situations and stories. Here's the thread:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1328023

NO ONE can tell you how many points you need. So much depends on your vacationing habits and preferences, but I would take a typical vacation for your family (or a typical years vacations) and look up what the points would be for that.

Good luck!

You'll find that Cast Members don't generally publically identify themselves as Cast Members on the boards.

I live in Orlando and am a member although I joined before I moved here. I have yet to use my points anywhere other than WDW or Vero Beach. Because I live in a smallish 1BR apartment, my DVC is great for when family comes to visit. I let them use my apartment and give myself a mini-vacation in a studio, lol.

I honestly can't say whether I would have bought after I moved here but I know I'm glad to have my DVC despite living so close to the World.

Since most people on the DIS already know I am a CM, I will answer:thumbsup2 Hubby and I are both CM's and we did the back and forth with the pros and cons, since we live and work here and we decided that it was a good purchase for us because we do travel a lot. We go to Disneyland often, so we have been able to use our points there and we also went to Disneyland Paris. We LOVE Hilton Head and we stay over a night in Vero when cruise out of Miami. We also use our points on property at WDW for mini vacations, we don't go to the parks, we just enjoy the amenities the hotel has to offer. We like to use the concierge collection for place we have never been. We also decided that it was a good investment because we know we will probably not work for Disney forever and we want our son to be able to enjoy the luxury of going whenever and being able to have a fabulous hotel. My in-laws have also bought their own membership, so for our family it just made sense. Once we made the decision to buy we both said "we should have done it sooner". We are very happy to be members and know that it will bring many great vacation for our family for years to come.

I was a TDS CM at the time of our DVC purchase, but I plan on returning to work at WDW in the future. With this in mind, we purchased at Hilton Head instead of one of the WDW DVC locations.
