Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

I absolutely ADORE this!! :lovestruc No, Yeah and Yeah, no are almost as ubiquitous here as "eh". We ALL say them and we ALL completely understand what is meant. My absolute favorite is No, yeah, no.

In some ways our fandoms are even more intense than anywhere in the States because the BlueJays and the Raptors are Canada's Team(s), not just inter-city or state rivalries. Our entire nation supports them and they are beloved! :worship: And practically all of us, coast-to-coast played at least a little bit of both baseball (softball, slow-pitch) and basketball in our youth, through school or the communities, so at least we understand the games.
I wish your MLS and CPL teams were supported as much as the Raptors and Blue Jays but that’s my own gripe. Glad to see Canada’s great sporting culture either way.

Deal. Canadians should make and try black and white cookies and tell us American disboarders what they think.

Reporting back on the whole Black and White Cookies thing. I picked some up yesterday and just got a chance to try one. (You will know I really had one and didn't pull a stock image, because I have posed my cookie against my Starbucks Saskatchewan mug on my crumby tablecloth.) Anyway, I thought that it was good. I mean, it's no butter tart, but I have tasted way worse. Are they supposed to be super soft and moist? I expected it to be firmer/drier than it was. The chocolate and vanilla icings work nicely together and the one I ate had just the right balance...the icing layer was thin, so it didn't overwhelm the cookie. I will have no problem eating the others, but I don't know if I would seek them out again specifically.

The soft and moist texture is more to do with the bakery itself. Some people like that texture (I’m one of the ones that do) and others like the cookies to be harder and drier like a biscotti (in which case, they let them became slightly stale before eating them or lightly toast them in an oven). Some cookies have a lemon cake flavor to them or just vanilla cake flavor. I’m glad you gave them a chance to one of my favorite American snacks. Thanks for the honest review. :-)

And how are those butter tarts coming along? :stir: (That's you cooking, not pot stirring...ha!)

I’m going to try to make some next week if my cold finally goes away. I’m starting to feel a little better but I’m probably stuck with it for a couple more days. The rest of my family is recovering better from their colds faster then me though. So there is some good news. I’ve mostly been eating chicken soup for the past couple of days.

Well, that is true to a certain extent, but it doesn't even rank in the top three sports for popularity in the US, so past that, you are just splitting hairs.

Supposedly, the top sports in the US based on viewership are:

1. football
2. basketball
3. soccer
4. baseball
5. hockey
[source]

The Canadian results seem to vary, depending upon what site you look at, as when you search for popular sports in Canada, you tend to get a lot of results for the sports people like to play, like golf, not what they are watching.

In Canada, they are listed as:

1. Ice Hockey
2. Lacrosse
3. Football (I think this is referring to soccer)
4. Baseball
5. Canadian football

We know who is responsible for #3 in the US list lol

By what measure?
You never hear anything about Canadian baseball outside of the Blue Jays. Unlike countries like Japan, Korea, and large parts of Latin America where it's huge. There are only 6 Canadians in MLB vs. over 500 from the US.

I know - they said the same thing about the plague at one time too ... so, there's that ... :)
I went to my one obligatory MLS game in Atlanta and watched more than my share of World Cup Finals ... so I'm good until 2026 :)
The proof is in the numbers so…..:confused3
