@prairie_girl , have you heard anything about your local lake monster from locals before?Only two links? You’re falling behind lol
Do you think they exist?
I think they do but as I said earlier, I think global warming really has affected them.No idea
I am an introvert! I totally dislike most people almost all the time!Well, if you loved that trip around the lakehead, you simply MUST drive through Wyoming. Most of it looks like a barren lunar landscape and with about 1/3 population of Saskatchewan, I truly hope you're an introvert.![]()
I will be close to your state this summer on our road trip. We are driving from my MILs in Thunder Bay. Going through Minnesota to visit Valley Fair then onto Kansas City to visit World's of Fun and our final stop will be Kings IslandI live in KS and have no problem with being called a flyover state. People just don't know what they are missing anyhowBut IRL I do tend to get a lot of surprising views once people actually come here. I used to talk to insurance agents from all over and I never forgot how the NY agents had no idea it got that cold here or that hot here. Like they'd ask "what's the weather like where you're at" and I'd say "oh it's -5" and they would be like "I didn't realize it got that cold there". There's just a general lack of knowledge of the middle of the U.S. mostly NE and KS IMO. MO might be in that too depending on the topic.
I almost had a trip to Omaha zoo back in the fall. I was attempting to find a Global Entry appointment and the soonest I could get was Omaha (about 3 hours north of me) and we were going to do a quick trip there. I was able to get an appointment at my home airport (45mins from my house) about a month later than that Omaha appointment so sadly that trip didn't come to fruition. I haven't been there since I was a young kid.
While I live in suburbia in a metro area I have fields of crops all around me and country very close by, the feeling of comfort you get going by a corn, wheat, sorghum or soybean field may sound odd to others but right at home to me![]()
You'll be right in my metro actually as I live in the KC metroI will be close to your state this summer on our road trip. We are driving from my MILs in Thunder Bay. Going through Minnesota to visit Valley Fair then onto Kansas City to visit World's of Fun and our final stop will be Kings Island
Well then, I'm surprised you haven't moved to Wyoming already!I am an introvert! I totally dislike most people almost all the time!
Worlds of Fun.You'll be right in my metro actually as I live in the KC metro
It's been a bit since I've made it to Worlds of Fun (it's about 45mins from my house) but I grew up going. To this day the smell of hot asphalt reminds me of summers there. Oh you'll get to experience the Zambezi Zinger depending on when you go! It's supposed to open up for the 2023 season (also the 50th anniversary of the park). Well it's the reimagined version. The original one which was the first big coaster I was tall enough to go on is presently in Columbia (the country).
I'd personally like to see how Timberwolf is these days since they redone a lot of the track. It used to be one of those coasters (being a wooden one) that you could end up with bruises from being knocked around. Supposed to be a lot smoother now after getting work done changing the type of track but also adding new features.
The Mamba is the most thrilling ride I've ever done (the heights alone are a lot for me) but I haven't done it since I was a freshman in college..not brave enough this days but should be fun.
Make sure to get some BBQ if you are able to. If you ask a local we all have our own fav. Mine is a Z-man from Joe's KC but a Mr. Burns (burnt ends) sandwich from Q39 is also quite good. JackStack is also a good place.
I think our DISer group of friends may be hitting up Dollywood towards the end of this year (maybe fall if we can). We did Silver Dollar City last year as a group. Possible another year we'll make it up to King's Island
Have fun!!
Ah yeah me and loops are a no lol . Orient Express was removed in the early 2000s but I do remember seeing it when I was a kid. I've been sometime after college to WOF through my husband's old company but the time before that had been in college and the Patriot had just opened which was pretty well received.there was a looping steel coaster called Orient Express.
I don't remember if they do or don't but I think that neat in general to be able to leave your mark somewhere.I don’t know if they still have it, but somewhere in the park there was board with plaques naming visitors from all 50 states. Delaware was one of 3 or 4 states still blank. ExH and I went to Guest Services and showed ID. They said they’d put our names on the blank Delaware space.

Canadians and Americans, if the legendary sea serpents exist, should they be captured and put in an aquarium to be studied or left to be studied in their natural habitat?
If it were up to me, I would be living out west somewhere - most likely.Well then, I'm surprised you haven't moved to Wyoming already!

Don't get me wrong, there are MUCH prettier places to visit there and Jackson Hole is a going concern, but I think you get the idea about the huge swaths of isolation. And if you need me, I'm just 1,600k north of Cheyenne- c'mon up!
I rarely visit local amusement parks in the cities that I have lived in - mostly the "Six Flags" variety. ( ... over Georgia near Atlanta, and ... Great America in Chicago). Largely because of past negative experiences - this may no longer be the case at those parks, but they aren't somewhere I have a strong desire to be around for just a day to be honest. Since thrill rides are less of a draw for me as I have gotten older - this likely also contributes. I think part of the locality mix is that I eventually need to drive home on the same day - so its less of an immersive experience as a destination (over several days). Obviously just my view -I am Canadian and we don't have many amusement parks here. I one thing I find fascinating is the US has so many parks and I come across more comments like the ones here where they haven't visited these parks in years. Why I find it fascinating is that with the amount parks the US has the only two that people seem to visit is Disney or Universal.
Another thing I find fascinating is the difference in how Americans view a vacation spot versus how Canadians view the same place. I have mentioned Myrtle Beach on different threads and I almost always get the same response from Americans on how dirty and that most Americans don't visit there. Same for Virginia Beach and Atlantic City.

No, leave them alone. We ruin way too many things by interfering.

In most places they are protected by federal law but I do think unless one is eventually captured (not killed) that investment from the governments to explore the continent’s lakes won’t happen.![]()
Are you on the side that they’re real?
I didn’t leave out the prairies, I just was vague about the locations of this fictional trip.
So you think the creatures are real, but my TOTALLY RADICAL NORTH AMERICAN ROAD TRIP is fictional???I think they are. Natives have sworn that they have been real for centuries. Our governments have laws to protect them. Not to trying to bring religion into the thread but this is something that most Catholics believe to have happened between St. Columba and the Loch Ness Monster:
