American Idol Top 4 Idol Chatter and Idle Chatter

It's because of where they're from. Having a hometown boy make it big on a popular TV show is a big deal in a small town. We see it season after season - the smaller the town, the bigger the homecoming. Adam's from southern California though. He has a ton of fans (both regular viewers and celebrities), but people in southern Cali aren't going to run out to see a guy on a reality show sit in a car as it drives down the street. I can guarantee if a NY contestant made it to the top 3, the city wouldn't shut down for a parade  Just because his homecoming didn't draw the entire town doesn't mean he doesn't have a ton of fans. I mean he was the only one who went to a military base, so does that mean he's the only one who supports our troops? ;) It's all relative, really.

That is true and I hear they screwed up because of short notice. But I would have to say that has got to be the stupidist thing I ever heard. How could anyone in the city not have known that Adam was supposed to be in the finale? Last time I looked Milwalkee and Little Rock were not really small towns. But I understand they also aren't San Diego. California is definitely in a league of their own. It still was sad. No coverage of his family either. I didn't see Danny's family much either. Wonder what was up with that?

Well if the homecomings are any indication AI had better hope Kris wins. What a homecoming. I don't know why they did Adam last. It was very apparent that his homecoming was much, much smaller. It may have been that it is a big city and they didn't care much, but I have to admit that was pretty sad to see so little turnout for the idol that supposedly has the biggest fan base ever?

If you weren't saddened a little for Danny and his story and can say that the man can't sing, I swear you'd have to be heartless. How can you not be impressed by what he did? I have been a Kris fan for a long time, but I can see that Danny has had an amazing journey on this and I am so happy that this will open up doors for him.

Troobabiee7 is right about the homecomings. Smaller towns or cities turn out for their local contestants. It doesn't seem to matter how the contestants sing, they just like to support their hometown people. It is harder to get bigger cities to focus on any one person. I know that the year Melinda Doolittle was on AI they had what I thought was an embarrassing turnout for her here in Nashville. She has a beautiful voice and was very popular but, the size of the city and with all the other performers located here, no one was excited about her homecoming. Big cities are just jaded that way. As far as Adam's homecoming concert, his crowd might have looked a little smaller than it was because it was in bleachers on either side of a football field. Danny and Kris were on stages with the crowd up close. I didn't think that any of the homecoming turnouts were "sad".

You are wrong on the heartless charge. I am a very compassionate person but I still don't like the way he sings. And I was very turned off by the using of the story of his late wife. It was not appropiate no matter who was using it - Danny, his late wife's relatives or AI.

I would LOVE to be abducted by an alien that looks like this...

I will stick to a :thumbsup2 because any other comment could get me points.

Clay Aiken is on the season finale of 30 Rock tonight.

Guest stars include Elvis Costello, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Clay Aiken.

Kris and Danny's homecomings were really impressive. That scene with Kris's dad was precious. And I loved the part where he says "don't cry Mama". Makes me want to go home to the south and hear everyone talk like that. They look like a family that really loves each other. Loved the scene where his parents hug each other and hold hands.

I know Adam is very talented and I actually think he looked humbled a bit tonight. I don't think he thought for sure that he was in. I liked when he talked to the kids at the theater. Full Circle! But I really hope Kris wins. Even if he doesn't he has really been impressive this year.

Bye bye Danny. I know I will buy your CD when it comes out. Your voice is truly a blessing. Use this experience to open hearts!

I know small and more intimate (for lack of a better word) is how the homecomings used to be. I think it means more for the contestant to go back to their roots and show that side of their life so the viewers can really get to know who they are as a person. I don't think the huge stadiums started to become the norm until season 4 or 5. And before that, if I remember correctly, it was just the top 2 that went home. I don't remember anyone other than Clay/Ruben and Carrie/Bo going home in their seasons.

Maybe Adam wanted his to be more low key. I know on one of the behind the scenes interviews he did he said he wanted to be a role model for kids and young adults to not be afraid of being themselves and also to go for their dreams. I loved that he went back to the children's theater and talked to the kids. And also went to do a concert for the soldiers and their families. It didn't appear that anyone else giving back like that. It was all about them and how big and popular they are getting. Show how many fans they really have. (Maybe they did do stuff like that and we just didn't see it, IDK, and if they did, that's great!)

Also, maybe Danny and Adam's family didn't want to be interviewed again. They aren't the contestant. :confused3

Ruben had a HUGE homecoming and got the key to the city that year. I remember it very well because it was on my birthday.

What was so small about his homecoming? I just rewatched it and it looked like a huge turnout, all the places he went. I don't know WHAT was on the mind of that woman in the BRA, though! :lmao:

The ones I truly remember was Katherine McPhee's which was EVERY tiny but then again, she lives in LA not far from the venue. Then Melinda Doolittle's crowd was small, but she seems to be very private.

We all loved David Cook last year. but what really happend to him? I never hear his song on the radio anymore?? Sadly I hear more about David A. Adam fan should remember that winning AI can be the death of a singer

I still hear David Cook songs on the radio. Nothing by Archie. Taylor Hicks has been relegated to Muzak. :rotfl: We do hear alot of Daughtry's music including his new single (name escapes me right now) from his upcoming album.

I'm still amazed that Katy P was wearing a cape embroidered (in large letters) with Adam Lambert's name. AI chose Adam to win ages ago. Even Simon reminded the public to vote for Adam. ;)
And ummmm...to save anyone the time, I would never buy it was a wardrobe malfunction that AI producers didn't know about.:rolleyes1

Anyway, it's "reassuring" to know the winning game plan is on track.

I wouldn't call it a "wardrobe malfunction" either... That was 100% deliberate.

Death of a singer? Do you think anyone who makes it to the top two are doing WORSE than they were when they got on the show?

Just because someone is not on your radio channel everyday doesn't make them a loser. I hear every year about how no one knows where Fantasia and Ruben is and I hear them all the time! I have NEVER heard a Carrie Underwood song on my radio, doesn't mean she doesn't exist. :confused3 I realize that what I'm in to everyone else may NOT be into.

BTW, I haven't heard one song by David A either. I know he's out there but not in my backyard.

Face it. It depends on their type of music and your local radio station's playing preferences.... I don't like that music is so "segregated" (for lack of better terminology.... where you don't have that "mix" you used to have 15-20+ years ago.

I didn't mean that the other years didn't have good turn outs, but I don't remember them having these huge stadium things, like Danny had that held 20,000+ (don't remember the exact number, but he did say how many people were there). I was just trying to make a point that just because the home coming wasn't this HUGE event, it didn't mean it was not a HUGE success. Guess I'm just tired of "hearing" all of the hate (oops, sorry can't say hate, so maby disdain is a better word) for Adam on the thread yesterday and today.

Thanks y'all we are making good time we left at 2 and now were outside of ocala

Hope you're able to switch drivers.... Sounds like it takes you longer than it takes me..... 13hrs if I go thru Atlanta. 10 if I cut across SC to take I-95.

Excuse me because I'm several pages behind, but-

First- I hear David Cook on the radio several times a day.

As others have pointed out, if Natasha could insist on a hug from David A last year, than Katy's wardrobe shouldn't be a problem. And if I remember correctly that hug was filmed multiple times. I recall reading that when people made a big deal over Cook standing up as Natasha approached and how he must have assumed she was headed for him. People there for the filming said it was filmed more than once, everyone knew exactly who was getting hugged and Cook stood up as a gentleman would when a lady approached each time. My long winded point is, it's not as if the hug was an impulsive moment and the cape planned

I'm highly amused by the "it must be fixed if Danny went home" posts. I personally think Adam had a better chance of winning against Danny than he does against Kris. And if it's fixed why send danny home this week? The fix could be in next week just as easily.

This show is highly manipulated, but there's at least one past winner that never would have won it if was out and out fixed.

I don't think Taylor Hicks would have won if it was fixed. Chris Daughtry (IMO of course) was much more talented than Taylor. After seeing Daughtry get voted out, I figured there was no way the show was fixed. I think most people assumed Daughtry would win and he just didn't get the votes.

I think this year Simon is afraid of the same thing happening, so that's why he encouraged people to vote and not assume someone was going to win.
