American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Well, I thought I'd chime in with my opinion of Kellie. To me, American Idol is a chance to choose a great new singer. However, the name of the show can make it mean different things to different people. If we take the name literally, then we are looking for a person that Americans can idolize. Personally, I won't lose sleep if Kellie wins (although I REALLY hope she doesn't), but she would never stand up as Idol material in my book. Be it an act or not, I don't idolize ignorance and she seems content to have the world believe she is an idiot. I have never understood girls who act dumb (and maybe it's not an act). My goal in life is to always try to educate myself or at least keep my mouth shut when I am ingnorant about a certain topic.

OmG, truer words were NEVER spoken!!!! Thank you!!! :woohoo:

If George Michael is Ace's choice tonight it will suit him well. I agree the song is played out but Ace's limited range doesnt afford him many options.

When the show started I liked Kellie so much. Now I'm hoping she wont be around too much longer. She probably is genuine but I cant help feeling she is acting when I see her. I cant stand the clown make up and really hope they lighten up tonight. Voice wise I think she's just OK.

Chris and Creed is like peas and carrots. A perfect match! Cant wait to see if thats the song, its one of my favorites.

I really hope Bucky pulls out all the stops tonight. I really think he has talent that we havent seen. Could just be that I really like him and hope he does well. I cant wait to see what he picks!

I think tonight should be terrific and I'm really looking forward to their performances. :rockband:

This is going to be a tough night for the over 50 crowd. I feel that I won't know one song that any of them sing. Makes it hard to figure out how well they did if you don't know how it's suppose to sound in the first place. :confused3
LOL, we were talking about this at my job today! Okay, I know SOME new songs, but only if they're on a commercial... I'm 22 for a moment.... LOVE THAT.. and that "humps" song... HATE THAT.... :rotfl2:

I only know the Ace song because I heard it on the Grammys the year it won, haven't heard it since so I guess I won't be sick of hearing it once more.

This over 50 is going to be "like a virgin" tonight! That's okay, I knew EVERY 50s and Stevie song!!

They just said on ET and Extra that Shakara, will be singing on the result show Wed night.

I hope everyone does well tonight. I don't really have a favorite anymore. They are all entertaining. Some better vocally than others, but all entertaining and deserving to be there.

I now watch to see how the show plays out. My guess is that Simon Fuller and crew make way more money off the show and its ratings than they could ever think of making from their crowned "stars." So, it is now fun to sit back and watch and try to figure out how they manipulate the audience.

I also think that they are purposefully developing personas for their contestants. Kellie's hee haw persona, Chris as the rocker (do they ever refer to him as anything but "the rocker"), Elliot's slightly "older" singing persona, Bucky's aw shucks country rocker, Mandisa's kindly diva persona, Ace's rather weird babe, but bad song choice persona, etc. If I didn't know better, I would take vegas odds that the writers have very specific instructions for how the contestants behave. It makes for good ratings, which translates into $$$ for the Idol brass.

My co-worker and I (3 months apart in age) were laughing today. I was saying, "Oh good, songs from the 21st century -- at least I'll know these!" She was saying, "Ugh...I probably won't know any!"

She's more of a 50s, 60s, 70s disco, r&b girl, and I'm more of an 80s and up, hair band, pop, rock girl.

So, it doesn't really have anything to do with age!

OK...here we go.

Lisa...um, I don't think so. Kelly Clarkson must be really hurting now. I guess she has been in the business long enough to have them do her songs. :)

I had to laugh when Paula started talking. "We all know that you can sinng your butt off." Well then, why isn't she doing it when it counts on the show?

Kelly's song was just awful... suds in a bucket? Or some such thing? I have no idea :(

Simon was SOOO right.....

Kelly wasn't much better. She can't sing country well either. She was dead pan singing it. That should have been boppier.

Well, I like the original song. Paula couldn't even say anything nice. LOL!

The first 2 were bad. And Ace wasn't so great.

Please tell me Kellie didn't butcher "Suds in the Bucket" by Sara Evans? I LOVE that song!

I LOVE Sara Evans, and while "Suds" isn't my favorite, it is still a good song. I hope Sara wasn't listening to that train wreck - oh my :confused3

That was horrible, just horrible. I am almost at a loss for words :rotfl:
