Why did Disney develop the Masterpiece Collection of films?

After they had started debuting the Black Diamond/The Classics collection they retired the collection and simply renamed it Disney Masterpiece Collection and I would like to know why Disney did this? Because was this a new name for The Classics and Disney wanted to sell more movies with new editions of the films? Not only was the series renamed they also did away with The Classics intro and kept the same music but changed the intro too. Was this new series meant to let VHS Disney movies sell longer as well?

Why I think Disney decided to retire the name The Classics and move all of the Black Diamond/The Classics Disney movies into the newly-christened Disney's Masterpiece collection was to give the films more lasting selling time on store shelves and though it seems odd that they used the same The Classics 90's music for the Disney's Masterpiece Collection it would've been cool to see a new intro and new music too. But I think Disney was smart because the prices of the new Disney's Masterpiece Collection videos got lowered at stores
