Amazing Race 11 - All Stars (begins 2/18/07)

I just want to know why the BQ's think everything they do is okay but nobody else can do the same? I just can't stand them, and keep wishing for them to go home.

I thought C & M were too darn funny tonight. I can't stand their fake accent but they really got along and looked like they had fun this show.

GO CHA CHA's

Sorry but I don't understand where you see this happening. The BQs are very much "it's all part of the game." C/M, on the other hand, believe that they don't play dirty and complain about other teams playing dirty. IMHO, they are two of the meanest players in this game and certainly tell lies about the other teams.

I didn't realize if they were part of a combined team that used the Fast Forward, they were able to use it again. It has always been one Fast Forward. Also, why didn't Charla and Mirna and Eric and Danielle receive a penalty for not walking to their task last week:confused3 I guess the producers never caught on, but that just bugs me.
DH and I were also very shocked that they didn't get a penalty. We were also expecting a penalty this week because Charla and Mirna didn't take the ferry to Hong Kong Island, they took a taxi there and then took the wrong ferry and then took a taxi again. In previous races I remember teams receiving a penalty.

I really don't get the people that get upset over a team actually using the Yield. It's part of the game! A game with a pretty large prize at the end for the winner.

It's like somebody getting upset that a team used the Fast Forward.

As for the Fast Forward, once again I'm pretty shocked that the FF challenge was so lame. They used to be pretty hard, or a least something that was quite a sacrafice. As for D&O usign it again, I suspect they don't count them having to do it with the other team. IMO that's fair.
I agree that the fast forward challenge was lame and easy. I remember one race where the fast forward was so tedious that other teams almost caught up with them.

Do you think they are making the All-Star race easier?

Here's a decent map that helps illustrate the C&M botch-up.
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mapshells/north_east_asia/hong_kong/hong_kong.htm
Kowloon a part of Hong Kong that is on the mainland. HK Island is south of it. Think of it like boroughs in NY. You might say you're in Brooklyn or Manhattan, but you're still in NYC.

Anyway, there were two ways to get to HK island - ferry or tunnel. When C&M gave the taxi driver their destination, they mentioned they had to go to HKI. They meant that's where the ferry had to take them, but the driver thought they needed to go to the terminal on HKI, so he drove them there instead of taking them to the terminal in Kowloon. C&M probably didn't realize you could even drive to HKI. When they figured it out, they just stayed on the boat when it turned around and went back to HKI. So they did take the ferry from Kowloon to HKI and corrected their own mistake.

As for the FF, I saw two things that I think made it difficult -- you couldn't pay me enough (not even a million bucks) to purposely be in a rollover car crash, stunt or otherwise. Anyone who is nervous about that sort of thing probably wouldn't go for it. The other thing is that it seemed like it was quite a drive back to the pit stop for the ChaChas. Wasn't it just about dark when they got there? Didn't seem like a huge time advantage for them.

I think the race would be more interesting if they were not allowed to pay taxi cabs to drive and they follow to where they need to be. It should be that they have to navigate on their own. Stop and ask questions but not be allowed to follow. :confused3

I can see both sides of this. IMO it's not a problem because;

1) It costs them money so teams that don't have to do it have an advantage.

2) It doesn't always work out. Many teams have followed somebody to the wrong destination.

Personally I would always try and find somebody who will get in the car and give directions. It's unlilkley somebody will get in the car unless they really know where they are going.

C/M effectively did a round trip on the ferry. It was the right ferry, they just got on in the wrong spot. They got on the ferry on Hong Kong Island which took them to Kowloon, which is where they were supposed to originate from. They stayed on the ferry in Kowloon and returned to Hong Kong Island. Then when they got off the ferry on Hong Kong Island, that is when they got the taxi to the police headquarters.

That's my impression too. The rest of the teams are just ganging up on the BQ's because they are smart racers.

To be honest, I don't know if I can take another week of Mirna's voice...it is so grating! Not to mention insulting...her "pidgin english" is just appaling, IMO.

I know it's part of the game but I wish they would eliminate it. What I don't like about the Yield and the Intersection is that you lose control over your own game. They both allow someone else to mess with your game. The Fast Forward only affects your own game. But I do think the ones on this race have been waaaaaay too easy.
The way I understand it...

The taxi took them through a tunnel to HK Island and they took the Star Ferry back to another destination, and then of course stayed on the ferry and headed back to HK Island. They did take the ferry, but they didn't do it the way the clue stated. IMO they should have had to return to where they were supposed to do things correctly and start over.

Yes Charla and Mirna took the correct ferry. And they took it eventually from the correct starting point. No penalty is warranted. Following your logic, if someone gets lost, they should go back to the point from where they got lost and start over.

There have been times in the game that a team missed a clue but somehow managed to find a task and complete it. All they were required to do was go back and get the clue. Not get the clue and do the task again. I believe one such team was Kandace and Dustin in their previous season.

That's right they never said what they were for.
The gnome was required in order to claim this week's prize - but really it's just to remind you that Travelocity pumps a lot of ad dollars into the show. :)

I agree. If it doesn't forbid it in the rules of the game, then they can use whatever means is necessary to get them where they are going. I really don't know why they choose to spend the money though. I don't think I have seen one of these teams use a map yet. I guess it is always easier or less of a chance of getting lost, if you pay for an escort.

What do you all think of D/O and C/M going to the back offices of the airlines? It didn't even look like a place where they would be allowed. And when the one guy told them to go up to the desk, that ticked me off that they made him stay.

It isn't anything Rob wouldn't have done if he'd thought of it. I applaud them for being brilliant. I think as long as they aren't breaking the law, they should do whatever they can get away with. I don't see this as being any different than getting a local to help you. It's totally dependent on what people are willing to do to help, and of course the BQ's have that down to a science. This time they were on the losing side of it.

Anybody notice the previews from next week? Looks like the 3 other teams are going to work together to get the BQ's yielded. Man, it's gonna be a long week

::yes::

At this point I expect next seasons title to be Travelocity Presents The Amazing Race.

Charla and Myrna's fake accents have annoyed me all along but tonight it put me over the edge. Those two have got to go. Also if Myrna calls another person "my friend" I will go crazy.

Yes!!! Who in heck does she think she is? Zsa Zsa Gabor or something? :lmao:

I don't understand. Last week a couple of the teams didn't follow the right directions. They took a cab instead of walking. How come there was no penelty for that?
tigercat

I think it's because they didn't complete the task they took the taxi to. C&M took the taxi to the cookie task, but didn't finish it and then walked to the other task. Kind of a grey area, I guess.

I only like the Yield because it is based on who gets there first. Given the number of "equalizers" (challenges or transportation designed to bunch everybody back up) they have every leg, I think it works and makes the game more interesting.

Somebody posted a link that cleared this up. I understand now but was confused by them naming the dock rather than just making it clear (in the show) that they were going back to where they started. The descriptions used during the show made it sound like three different places.

I think it's funny that some people have lucked into finding things ahead of the perscribed order. Didn't somebody actually find the pitstop on another season?

Anyway, I do think they should have to go back and repeat everything rather than just get the clue. You've got to be an idiot to do anything out of order on that show (and yes, this includes the BQ's last season). Why do anything without a clue tellling you to do that task?

I agree... somewhat annoying, but that seems to be the trend in a lot of things. Corporate sponsorship. I don't know if you watch NASCAR, but it's really sickening there. The drivers can hardly speak a sentence without mentioning their sponsor. And of course, you see it many places at WDW.

I just want to know why the BQ's think everything they do is okay but nobody else can do the same? I just can't stand them, and keep wishing for them to go home.

Uh huh. They do the same things to other teams, more so last season when not everybody else was wise to the same tricks and it was easier for them to get away with it. Remember last season when they were trying to buy air tickets for somebody else (?? can't remember who the other team was) just so that Bama would have to wait? How is that different than O&D giving their stand-by seats to C&M?

I agree with you on them needing to go home. Watching them get eliminated last season was one of those satisfying moments and I'm looking forward to experiencing it again :thumbsup2

First of all I don't think the BQs think everything is okay for them and not for anybody else. They WANT things to go well for themselves, they are trying to WIN ONE MILLION DOLLARS. The only thing they have been adamant about is that they were first in line (at the counter) and therefore first on the standby, which they ended up being.

I forgot to say, I think going up to the actual corporat office at the airport is totally acceptable and can't believe the BQs overlooked this as did Danielle and Eric. That is totally legit and they were wrong to complain about the fact that they (BQs) had been waiting downstairs longer than the others were waiting upstairs. That was a big mistake on their parts (BQs and D&E) IMO.

If C&M WERE ABLE to get first with D&Os info, that would have been fair IMO. BQs were just making sure they themselves were first, and they should, they all should! I don't really see them complaining about what other teams do unless they are at the counter and C&M try to come up and get in front of them (which has happened several times rude women). They are the most positive team running this race, IMO. They don't try to bud in front of anyone in line, and they aren't name calling about all of the other teams (well as much anyway). They also said in the interview, you take the good with the bad... regarding the yield.

If you watch elim station, you will see Terri&Ian telling how the cha chas were devious and sneaky tto them when they were supposedly working together on getting some reservations.

Also, you see the previews for next week when the BQs read the clue about the upcoming Yield. I bet if they get yielded, they won't be crying and name calling, they will be saying, that is the name of the game.

C&M are the queens of being rude and pushy, and please lose the fake accents. I wish they were gone already

I am tired of Danielle and Eric and their rudeness. I really like that they weren't able to get on the flight, they should have worked harder at it. They act like they are ready to go home. Good riddance!

Go BQs! Go Cha Cha! If one of the other two teams win I will be disappointed.

Sorry but I don't understand where you see this happening. The BQs are very much "it's all part of the game." I just posted this, but what about last season when they tried to buy tickets for another team to prevent Bama from getting there first? Then they whine when D&O give their stand-by seats to C&M. I know there have been other times when BQ's have manipulated locals into helping them "on the sly" and then they complain when other teams do it against them. I think they've been successful more than not, and that's why you haven't seen too many examples of them being upset at the tactics of other teams.

C/M, on the other hand, believe that they don't play dirty and complain about other teams playing dirty. IMHO, they are two of the meanest players in this game and certainly tell lies about the other teams.

ITA about C&M too. Mean and dirty, but also clever many times. I'd rather see them make the top 3, but I want D&O to win at this point. They're "the lesser of 3 evils" IMO.

Charla and Myrna's fake accents have annoyed me all along but tonight it put me over the edge. Those two have got to go. Also if Myrna calls another person "my friend" I will go crazy.

I reallly hope Danny and Oswald or the Beauty Queens win.

You're so right. That's been driving me nuts!
I don't like those 2 at all.
